.... excuse me while i choke on my vomit.

Snails and slugs are basically large, moving, globs of bacteria. If that thing was ever on my arm, I would burn off the top layer of my skin with hydrochloric acid.

So... The next thing has to be this?

Anyway, I believe that it is fake. It is too large, and looks like a regular north european snail. And for some reason it doesnt seem to secrete anything, which i certainly would expect to see with a snail of that size!

Great CGI if it is though.

First, the hand in the picture is a childs hand.

Second, Alchatina snails are known to grow up to 15 cm link, which would be able to cover a grownups hand too.

Lastly, there's bigger snails in the oceans.

And if you wana open the argument to what snails are, squids are considered moluscs and many people consider them the same family as snails and we know by now that there are some huge huge versions of those. (what was it last week, a 900 pounder they caught?)

I just watched the video again and am curious on how you came to the conclusion that this is a child’s hand? From what I see there is nothing in the video (besides speculation) to base this on. Or am I missing something?

So if you dump salt on a squid would it melt into a pile of goo like the snail does?

Would you mind posting links for our educational purposes?

The video clip may seem odd, like it's a series of photos rather than a video clip, but there's no question that snails of that size are real...

Assuming that this is a REAL giant slug, it is obviously NOT harmful by reason of the fact that a person is holding it without being damaged.

(Little Tidbit) From my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong, snails will emit a 'gooey' trail behind itself to facilitate movement to some degree, and also to excrete horomones to initiate sexual reproduction.

ever seen a Queen Conch snail? you know those huge shells that people blow into to make the fog horn sound? well, those are snail shells and their huge.

The african giant snail can weigh up to 2lbs, i think thats what this thing is.

Guiness World Book of Records: The largest known land gastropod is the African giant snail (Achatina achatina), the largest recorded specimen of which measured 39.3 cm (15.5 in) from snout to tail, with a shell length of 27.3 cm (10.75 in) and weight of 900 g (2 lb).

Correction to what I said earlyer, its most likely a womans hand, not a child, this because I think I'm seeing a marriage ring on the hand thats holding it.

Why do I say its a childs or womans hand (as asked earlyer) in relation to other objects in the scene, the hand is a small womans hand or childs hand. I'm leaning towards the womans hand now because I seem to be able to see a marriage ring.

Holy Frig!!! LOLOLOL

With snails, in this case, you'd have to keep your finger on the fast-forward button to get NORMAL SPEED action...

Imagine having a party, and your pet Squishy-the-snail sludges along and starts humpin your guests legs? What are you going to do, roll up the newspaper and smack it" "bad squishy, BAD.. you know better than that".

Ok...this is getting weird now, I must be tired after work. Into giggle 'mode'.

You guys are too funny!!

Proof that snails this large do exist.

World Record Snail: 15.5 inches

But I worry for the person holding the snail and if it is a child, CURSE THE PEOPLE WHO LET HIM HANDLE IT:

Giant African Snails are carriers of the rat parasite, Angiostrongylus cantonensis. This parasite can be contracted by ingesting improperly cooked snail meat or by handling live snails and transferring snail mucus to the human mucus membranes such as those in the eyes, nose, and mouthx

- Introduced Pests Outreach Project of Massachusetts

They are now illegal to sell as pets because they carry a parasite that is harmful to humans and plants.

Scientists consider the giant African snail, Achatina fulica, to be one of the most damaging snails in the world. It is known to eat at least 500 different types of plants, including breadfruit, cassava, cocoa, papaya, peanut, rubber, and most varieties of beans, peas, cucumbers, and melons.

-Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

Hope this information is helpful to you.
