When you are a manager, hiring "fresh meat," you need to process a lot of people rapidly. In today's market, you may have 30 people apply for 5 positions. The problem is, half of those 30 don't really want to land the job they apply for--they are applying just to apeas parents, probation/parole officers, unemployment, etc.

Your task is to sort out the people who will least suck, and bribe them to do your work.

The applicants who "couldn't be bothered" to compete in high school probably contain at least one genius and one virtuoso artist among them.

Too bad you're hiring people to unload trucks in a warehouse.

So what do you do? You try to pick out the ones who seem motivated, and can read and figure out a bill of lading, and who seem like they might pass a drug test, with some intensive "study" the night before.

Now, you could try to pick out the genius, and make him the shift supervisor. But then again, his geniusness is no guarantee he can motivate other employess, or that he will file his TPS repots correctly---which is what you'll be paying him for.

Who do I go for? The "hungry, poverty-stricken" types, who show up early and leave late. Usually an immigrant or someone with a serious social stigma. Those guys are the ones who end up on the baord of directors. They come along about one worker in five thousand, in my experience.

Personally, I've only been unemployed 4 days in the past 15 years. You know why? Because I have a B.A. from a major university. I got hired on a ranch because I had a degree in anthropology. The other job-seekers were laughing at me, and the manager said, "why would I hire an anthropologist?" I shot back with "because you know I showed up for class, every morning, for 4 years straight."

I got the job, and was senior hired hand on that ranch within two years.

Some of the other workers had grown up on farms, but they didn't show up every day. I didn't know a hereford from a red angus, but I was there at sunrise, and I read books until I knew as much as the others did.

I left that job with a standing offer to come back if I ever needed work. I have similar offers in several fields of business and government administration. Why? Because I'm friggin Leondardo D. Vinci?

Nope, it's because I show up for work every day. (Da Vinci slept in.)

.

all the best.

All school is pointless, to truely learn one must look within

The only reason to go to highschool is to learn how to play the game. If you master that game, then you will do well in College. The only point of College is to make a future employer impressed.

But these years will be the best years of your life. You will never, never have the opportunity again to be this close to that many beautiful woman that no matter what you could see the next day.

It's simple really,

They condition people from birth to become working slaves and highschool is just one of the process they make you go through to acheive that goal.

The grade system of schools is designed in such a way that sorts out who are more compatible with the system.

They threat us all like an experiment, im glad some people realise this.

First, school starts too early. studies show that people, especially young people should be sleeping until 11am. most schools start at 8am.

There is no study that says you should sleep until 11am.
Studies however do show that individuals who get the required 6-8
hours of sleep do better though.

If you are not getting enough sleep, I suggest you go to bed earlier.

Why should you sleep this long?? well, it helps with concentration and focus, along with memory. All things that we don't need when it comes to school.

Of course you need those things in school, well I suppose unless you
plan on failing that is.

Then, There is things we dont need to learn. becuase The USA is falling behind Europe in education standards, public schools are stepping everything up. how? by requiring more classes to graduate.

So what, I don't have a problem with that.

The problem is, i have to do good in all of it if i want to do What i want to do as a job.

So, than quit complaingin and do good in school, graduate and get
whatever job it is you want.

I see alot of people drop out, not because they are not smart, but because they just feel that this is not needed, and it isnt needed.

Well I obviously can't say I can verify that, but considering it's not impossible.

The only people I ever see drop out are losers who were pretty much
failing as it is and were going to waste there life doing some idiotic
things or basic menial labour.

but in this day and age its the paper that counts that gets you your job.

If I was an employer, and I will one day be that, the majority of the
time I'd be alot more likely to employ someone who graduated High
School with atleast average grades, than someone who did'nt gradu-
ate at all.

There are soo many famous and inteligent people that didnt finish high school. So what makes it worth so much of everyone's time?

There are verfy few people like that.

Bill Gates is one of them, yes he did'nt graduate High School, but
he was a naturally gifted person.

Also, I'm not sure if there are or not, but I would suggest not listing
actors, as it really is one of the most unimportant and highly over
payed professions there is.

I understand The material we study is meant to give us a taste of different area's of education, but then why is it soo heavily graded?

Grading is generally individual to each teacher, there may be one
that requires perfection to get a good grade but another who will
give you a good grade for trying your hardest.

To me, the only work I picture this educational system relating to is some office job in some building, working for some CEO, and " I want those papers on the desk by 5 O'clock on friday..". says the manager

Nearly every job is dependant on education, and really if people did'nt
go to High School, they'd have no idea what jobs there are, what they
are good at or anything like that.

Drstrangecraft I really liked what you said there. I have just graduated college and have been interviewing with people all over the place! It was encouraging to read your post.

While I slept through 3/4's of high school, I cannot say it was useless to me. Hmm, things that I got out of high school:

- English (Communication is extremely important)
- Math (You can never be too good at this)
- A trip to another country (Join a club or class that goes on a trip to another country)
- Team Sports (I played soccer and having been on that team has taught me so much that class never could have)

Not the greatest list, but it's honest...

The OP seems to be on the right track really, even spends 2hrs on homework and plays a sport.

And he is right, school alone will not make you rich or successful.

But he needs to realize that he is getting a whole lot out of it that most aren't! I think he is doing really good, and extremely lucky to already realize that HS and college are simply not enough! You have to have talent and desire as well.

There is a reason everyone is not a Bill Gates. That is because High school and college are not enough. Not because High school and college are useless!

@The OP: I think you are on the right track. It seems obvious to me that you are going to graduate high school, you just feel like you are wasting your time doing it. I wish I was thinking like that back then. I think you are really thinking ahead!

Sorry not to contribute on the discussion on the design or usefulness of high school in general, but this was what I wanted to say!

Too bad, iori makes a lot of good points. A blatant ignore will cost you more than it will cost him.

Edited: I rather put someone like that on ignore list so that i don't have to read more ignorant comments like that one in the future because i rather avoid reading them alltogether.

Remember the moto of this site is deny ignorance is it not? well that's what im doing by putting him on ignore i am dennying ignorance.

John Taylor Gotto can explain to you why school is boring, and why you are absolutely right in many respects by direct experience. On another score you have to set up your own separate study plan to get through life. Our entire system is a minefield whether educational or the world of money and strangers, so you need brains, not the mush and dumbing down you get in school. Read how the Rockefellers and others conspired to dumb down the American public, while one of the reasons was their need for docile and obedient factory workers. They made education dull, boring, uninspiring and have taken steps to do so because they despised the labor movement and its articulate and well educated speakers. Since they and their sort control the media, they will not tell you these things. The internet may not be around for long, because these elite parasites are desperate to keep people illiterate, so get as much information as you can for as long as you can!

If you think scientists, medical doctors, and other specialists are wise, they are to a point of diminishing returns. They do not have a liberal education, and are in the same dumbed down system until they independently break free at least in their own private notes. Being brilliant is next to forbidden in our culture, as it has been for thousands of years except in secret meetings for these elites and mostly to consolidate their wealth. The tip top elites are basically stupid in a comprehensive sense of insights into possibilities for all people, while they continue to operate from a sense of pathological and even psychopathic moral neutrality. You can see the evidence in the corporate world, the military-government debt driven stereotype. Take the example of the Prince being currently sent into Iraq which is filled with uranium dust. They even send their own to live the lie they have constructed!

You can only urge self and others to be on guard, and to arm yourselves with comprehensive knowledge.

Well, since you've apparently ignored me, you most likely wont see this.

But I did not say everyone who drops out of High School is a loser.

I said everyone I have seen do so have turned out to be.

Personal experience, I think that is a valid argument. I happened to actually be expelled from HS in my senior year, but I had already gotten my diploma.

Is high school structured wrong? I believe so. But pointless? Not at all.

Knowing the equivalent of high school math (depends on the school and state, but it's basically the same everywhere) and science is very important for most professions. They sometimes emphasize the wrong things, I believe, but what they actually teach can be applied to many advanced fields. If you want to learn a trade, though, and be something like a plumber or electrician, then it's MOSTLY useless.

High school and college are intended to keep a large percentage of the working age population out of the job market, so they don't show up as "unemployed" on the labor statistics. This has been their primary purpose over the last 50 years, since the post-WWII baby boom pushed the population totals to all-time highs at the same time automation was effectively eliminating a large number of manufacturing and agricultural jobs that used to be done by hand.

So high school is far from "pointless," but rather plays an important role in regulating the flow of employees into the workforce.

However, if you don't completely dig it, I would suggest obtaining a false I.D. that increases your age by a few years, and getting a job. Go ahead and lie on your resume and applications about completing high school, since no one except military contractors check that information, anyway.

Establish yourself as an adult, go to work, make money. If your parents aren't too keen on the idea, leave home. Change your identity. Move away. Sneak into another country. People do it all the time. It might not be exactly "legal," but neither is you driving a car or drinking beer. So there you go.

This is life, kiddo. You can do whatever you want (or don't want) as long as you're willing to accept the possible consequences. For every "rule" there is a way around it, if you've got the gumption.

I would strongly suggest, however, that you avoid getting married and having children for a while. Recognize that love is primarily a hormone and pheremone trick to get you to reproduce, and if you get encumbered with a wife and kid it will severely limit your potential for rapid success in nearly any field you choose. There is absolutely no reason for you to get married before you're 30. A friendly word of warning and advice from somebody who is not your dad or mom or "friends."

Actually, I understand where you are coming from because a million years ago when I was in high school I pretty much said the same thing. You are an intelligent young person and the future of planet Terra depends on you so do your best. Each and every member that posts on this site most certainly had to go through a meat grinder before we are allowed to join the Navy and be an Admiral or a pirate on the high seas.
