Israel, US sign homeland security pact

Rebecca Anna Stoil,

Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter and his US counterpart, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, signed a joint memorandum in Washington DC on Wednesday evening, setting a series of goals and terms for security collaboration between the two nations.

The joint understanding included partnership on flight security, including passenger and cargo inspection and information sharing on the topic of emergency planning, response, recovery and damage control. The understanding also encompassed sharing of research and development progress in the field of explosives detection.

In addition, Israel and the US will share information about steps taken to neutralize, respond to and reduce terror and criminal activities in specific fields and will also hold joint training and staff exchanges.

I fail to see the "we're screwed" part of the story? We could all learn a thing or two from the Israelis about preventing terrorist attacks. They've had the monsters living there in their country for years.

My only guess is you are anti-Israel and therefore think this is a bad thing.

If memory serves me right the UN reestablished Israel in 1948, not just the USA.

ie - Checkpoints - curfews - fear of bombs - limited travel - suicide bombers - rationing - news blocks - city blackouts - a draft - all have a way of working against a way of life. ( granted none of these things are currently in the works, but with enough time....well )

Does that make Britain the 52nd state? That doesn't make sense; we make security pacts with other nations routinely. The only reason some are taking this one seriously is because they have a chip on their shoulder about Israel, for reasons I don't understand to this day.

ie - Checkpoints

No muslim ever has or ever will put up a checkpoint in the United States. THe only people that can install checkpoints in America are Americans. Your logic that Muslims are the cause of checkpoints is faulty.

No muslim ever has or ever will declared a curfew in the United States. The only people that can place a curfew on any American city is.........Americans.

fear of bombs

What did I tell you about living in fear? Are you sure you're from the 'Home of the Brave'? No offense but life is a risk, everyday, and you have a better chance of hitting the lottery then dieing in a bomb blast, so dont live in fear.
The only person that can make you afraid is.......YOU, silly goose.

I will agree that some of the things you mentioned are chipping away at our way of life, but you seem to forget who instituted these things.
It wasnt the muslims my young friend.

I understand where you are coming from.
I used to live over there myself.
I will try to give you directions to get to where I am but you must be willing to listen and take notes.

I used to believe that the evil muslims "hate our freedom".
Then I started looking at who was actually taking my freedom, and I didnt find one muslim.

Rather then changing our way of life to be in alignment with how they live in Israel due to their apartheid and oppressive ways, we should be pushing them to change and forcing them to follow through on some of the laws they are breaking by allowing occupation to expand, and using our exported weapons in breach of contracted use. We have aligned ourselves with this country so much that pretty soon we will be a mirror image. Its a shame.

Only americans say that, Israelis say USA is part of Israel, look at the amount of aid USA sends to Israel, and the control zionists have over american business and their media, and also the number of times Israel uses USA to block any moves against them at the UN level and the fact that the PM of israel has said that israel controls USA and the americans know it, and you will see why people imagine that Israel controls USA and not vice-versa

Israel controls Canada as well since the article is including them.

Perhaps the real terror is the abuse that some people use under the 1st ammendment of the United States and other countries (Ther Charter of Rights and Freedoms where I belong) to push their agendas and don't let others states opinions.

This might just be one of the major problems of the world today, not agreeing with everyone's religion, that one religion has to be dominant, that we all have to live under one god, or face death. True religion is actually peacefull, as Islam and Christianity are, among with other religions like Wicca, Buddhism, and others. I feel for the people that can't get this into their heads, they are driving the war, and driving the terror and terrorism within this world. And its not just Muslims, it is also Christians and any other people from religions that become fundamentalists by thumping books and speaking that their's is the one and only way that you will get into the afterlife.

Truly sickening to live in a world this way, after all we have had 6000 years and we've only just entered a highschool mentality witch cliques going to each corner of the room.

I do say good for Israel and Good for America defending themselves. But at what cost to the other people within the region. An defense pact means that other countries will start declaring allies with themselves. I may be wrong, but isn't this how WW1 started. And note I didn't say that neither Israel or America does not have the right to defend themselves, nor does any country, so please don't pointedly attack me on that.

let me ask ya somethin' if we had this pact with them last year when they were fighting/attacking lebanon would this PACT require us to defend isreal using our soldiers

so the next time israel is attacked we have to get involved with a war that may be none of our business , sounds really "good" for us . i can't wait for us to get some more "experience with terrorism"

what happens when/if russia signs a pact like this with iran or china signs a pact like this with iran or syria for that matter, this seems like it makes it alot easier for bigger wars to be waged.

i haven't seen a more brain dead deal since the rockies paid 51 million for denny neagle (5 years)
