Why not open the US' borders and let illegals compete for ALL US jobs?

Since the lower class is taking the brunt of the illegal immigration problem. Why don't we try to spread out the problem so it doesn't just hurt the poor. If illegals really do make our country better and more competitive why don't we let them compete for all jobs including law enforcement, doctors and nurses, lawyers, accountants and all federal state and local jobs. Why should illegal immigration be held down by a glass ceiling? Why not remove that glass ceiling and let us all compete? Why is there this apparant bias for illegals?

Good thought LO. To go a step further, maybe the folks presently in said jobs who think illegals are such a good idea could do a little emigrating themselves. Make the world a better place and all.

Thanks for the support beez. I like your thought too, seriously though, if we as a people are truly against racial and social bias why don't we just lift the restrictions of said positions so that an open market can compete and the best candidate can win out in ANY and ALL positions.

Everyone knows the border patrol agencies are cutting it, why not drop them, we would get cheaper dentists, doctors, lawyers, accountants etc.

People with good jobs don't want to leave their family and way of life to come to america, even if it is a great place to work. Most people do it because they are willing to do anything to survive and provide for their families. Plus if you just let non citizens in then they will cause other problems. If an illegal gets hit by a car or some crazy accident it's not like the paramedics are gonna be like 'hes illegal leave him'. They will treat him and he won't be able to pay and they can't do anything about it. Same with having a baby. Just some things to consider

I don't know Mushroom, think about it, would you relocate if you knew you would get 3 times what you are currently making, of course you would. Well maybe you wouldn't but I would imagine it would attract a large talent labor pool that corporate America could put to good use. Not only will you make more but you will have less drama to worry about since politics in Mexico are corrupt and their Police are even worse. They wouldn't even have to learn the language if they employed a translator.

I honestly don't have an issue with the best person getting the job. However I'm not comfortable being operated on or treated by somebody who has absolutely no qualifications. If an illegal goes to college or a trade school and gets their degree and knows what they're doing then fine, just so long as they can do their job right and we're speaking the same language. The problem is most of the illegals don't have much of education when they come in, so fresh illegals are mostly unsuited for high skill jobs.

If we suddenly started letting any illegal take any job then this country would fall apart. After all we'd have to start letting anybody do those jobs in order to be fair, qualified or not. And don't think that an educated illegal is going to be any cheaper. If they can get an education for a good job, and then get that job then they'll be smart enough to realize that they don't have to settle for less.

Illegals are coming here for jobs. Basically, money. If they're doing fine, they won't be as willing to move.

Umm, they can't be police officers, other law enforcement positions, laywers, judges, etc. They can not work for local, state, and federal positions including the postal service. It is often times much more difficult becoming a doctor or nurse in the US after you have already become one in Mexico.

The wealthy of Mexico would come to the US except for the fact that we put up so many safety nets and restrictions along the way to make sure illegals won't have a chance to be a dentist or any other business professional. Where is the ACLU when you need them?

O you mean like the construction jobs in my town that paid 25 bucks an hour 5 years ago and now they have illegals doing the same thing for 10?

Cyberdude you are missing the argument of illegals all together. It isn't about having the "best" individual for the job, it is about having the cheapest. And the larger the labor pool and the poorer the labor pool the less the business will have to pay the empolyee this is all big biz wants to do. If one illegal wants more money he can walk, there's another 100 just like him dying to work.

If an uneducated man, crossing into a country that considers him illegal and can't speak the language of the country he is entering...If that man...can take your job....The problem isn't with him, It's with you.

No illegal is going to take my job. I've even tried to teach it to a few illegals that work at my company. (I was hoping to get them to do it so I could goof off.) That is simply not going to happen.

If a non english speaking, uneducated illegal alien can take your job, you need to go back to school. You need to get a better education and perhaps think about forming a little security in your life.

i dont think you quite grasp the social and economic ramifications of total amnesty. It would be great for illegals, very bad for all those already citizens. spreading the problem around doesnt make things better for the poor, it just makes things worse for the whole.

It would be a good idea to grant them a worker's license to work here. There are two key issues people don't take to heart:

1. If illegal immigrants are completely banned from working in any field, then businesses will find cheap labor by outsourcing the jobs.

2. If illegal immigrants are allowed to work within the borders, companies will not have to outsource jobs to Mexico and India.

If the government were to allow them a temporary work permit, on the condition that they are taxed, but cannot claim a tax return, then we will benefit greatly, because this will help refuel the Social Security program.

I hear that they will make good truck drivers. Makes me feel more comfortable on the freeway having some illegal driving an 18 wheeler.

Education is an argument used by the elite to get the working class to give up there jobs without a fight. Not everyone can get an education, there are a lot of people that have just enough time to go to work there two jobs and feed the family.

We dont need them here. I dont want them here.

They are forcing wages down, this is why the governement is dragging its feet. Too many decision makers have been paid off by big business that wants a better bottom line. I love ya mr wupy but I think you are wrong on this one.

Sorry Mod but its not about the jobs....It's about US citizens tax money going twards Non-citizens medical bills,billions of dollars,not millions but billions........It's about feeding them 3 meals a day in our US jails for crimes commited against American citizens........Yea you may not loose your job to them but don't be so smug as to think your not within reach of becoming a victum because your so educated....It dosen't take a rocket scientest to fire a gun!

Those very tariffs will only serve to isolate our economy and do more damage than good. I frankly do noy want to start paying triple the price for my daily good and services because some people refuse to diversify their job skills. Its a GLOBAL world now, not an American one. Either we ctach up to the times and compete, or we put up these protectionist walls around our economy and stagnate in our own isolation.

The solution is to integrate all of North America into one entity, and then there will not be such a thing as illegal immigrants.

You are being sold a bill of goods, the proof is our jobs bleeding out.

I would rather pay more for a few trinkets and keep our jobs. The high tech jobs will go next. They already are starting too.

We still have the money and the buying power but wont have it in the long term. We are in a transitional phase and the mulitnational corporations are having a fire sale.

If we purchased only American goods, you would have to give up your cell phone, tv, stereo and many other things for a while, the jobs would start coming back. Either that or these companies would eventually go broke.

Wait twenty years and we will NOT have that purchasing power. Plenty of Indians and Chinese to sell too, until it goes full circle and we undercut there wages when we become a third world nation.

Lets have our country back ok?

Edit to add: You think that I didnt have in mind what we have been fed by the main stream media since the 80's? Sorry I am light years past that mindset. We are being fleeced! The sheep wont see it until its too late. Just keep buying what they are selling, I am sure its for your own good!
