Yep, third is a decent target all things considered, and maybe a good cup run.
I know everyone gets injuries, but really, the amount we've had has been ridiculous and they have to be considered just because of the amount of
them.
do you think any other team could cope with having a dozen or so first squad injuries? and not just peripheral players, but regular starters?
The wingers thing is a non starter to be fair - ever since his days as real madrid youth coach, Rafa has used his full backs to attack, with his wide
midfield players tucking in, or cutting in as you put it - Yossi is more than capable of going to the byline, but is under instruction not to.
This was done with devastating effect at valencia, and we are now starting to see the same here.
It not only provides width, but gets attacking players in and around the box as well, and pulls the opposition out of shape - the opposition full back
follows Kuyt/benny/riera inside leaving space for our fb to attack. If their midfielder tracks back, it leaves space in the centre.
The downside is that it has had a negative effect on our central defenders - carra in particular, as they get used to a new system.
It's only an adjustment of a few yards, but it has thrown the defense out of shape slightly, and led to some confusion over who should be doing
what.
Again, injuries haven't helped and we haven't had 2 settled centre backs for any reasonable period of time this season.
