lots of space probes seem to get destroyed or just plain go missing near Mars bit odd if you ask me, seems like somethings up Alien or maybe something Nasa wants hidden from public so they say opps our probes gone on holiday opps no a weather ballon hit it jk, but it is odd that so many space probes go missing round mars area.

the last one went down because of a 'measurement conversion foul-up'. a multi million if not billion dollar expedition and theyre trying to tell us that they didnt go over the figure atleast once. please. some of us arent that stupid yet.

it is not our time to discover the ancients. Every probe will be lost untill it is our time to discover the ancients technologies

Another point of view could be that it goes to illustrate what a difficult task it is to design and control a probe and what a dangerous place space is with micro meteorites and cosmic rays.

It does make me sad to see repeated failures though, it does seem to be the jinxed planet for probes.

I agree, they seriously expect us to believe that these supposed geniuses of science (although i think they are not) #ed up a simple measurement conversion! LMAO!
That something you learn when your 14! And when theres that much money involed you'd think they wouldnt let thier 10 year old sons do the calculations! LOL

Or mabye they used an abacus?

It's amazing that we can send probes to all the outer planets and beyond the solar system (Pioneers, Voyagers, Cassini, Galleio) with few or no problems, but we can't get probes to a planet right next door.

With all the problems we're having getting probes to Mars these days I don't see how we ever got Viking's 1 and 2 there. Those probes were huge too, not these tinkertoys we send now. They also had to land using thusters, not bounch around in an air bag, hoping that they end up somewhere nice.

I swear it's like we've regressed in technology.

I think the issue extends not only to Mars but to the moon as well. I think there's been a large percentage of moon probe failures. Though as Flinx stated, we have a lot of reliable deeper space probes that have not had such issues.

I think it's possible that there might be something taking them out. However, how do you explain the fact that some probes make it, but others don't?

i can't think of that many mars probes that have failed. i can think of 2 or 3. (i'm not saying thats all there was, just as many as i can think of) and i wouldn't call that a lot.

i think the main reason to do with them failing is the huge amount of bureaucracy that now exsists at NASA and other such places compaired to how it was in the 50's and 60's. too many budget cuts and possibly shotcuts taken in the building of some of these probes.

it may also have to do with some of the complexity of some of these probes. many sophisticated instruments on these things. the bigger and more complex they are, the better the chance something is going to break.

so far the ESA probes seem to be fine from what i've heard. i know the japanese one is having some serious problems now, but they were having issues with it even befor it left earth orbit.

Personaly i don't think it would be aliens shooting our probes. If they were wanting to remain hidden, the last thing they should be doing is destroying our stuff and making themselves noticed. besides, that won't stop us from sending out more probes anyway. we'll just keep making bigger and better ones (hopefuly).

They might be. Perhaps they are. But, # happens, everyone knows that. Maybe they aren't prepared for Mars yet, or maybe its aliens. Either way, the public needs answers, answers that may never come. Unfortunately. Let us hope that this changes, as it is a bad thing to have as a reality. Now, if they were, and the government knew, we surely, the public that is, would not know. Sucks, doesn't it?

If they destory our probes, then they are either be pretty close or pretty advanced.

Either way they will be tempted to attack us soon.

Wonder if the wars Bush has gotten into has anything to get U.S. army ready for an Alien attack.

I agree with Zzub, it is an extremely difficult task to avoid all the micro meteors and that there are a million and one things that can (and usually do) go wrong. However as pointed out, 30 years ago we were sending probes all over the solar system. To top it all off, the voyager missions were not just lucky, they are exiting the solar system right now. It is very ironic that we cant send on in one piece to our closest neighbor...

If it is 'Aliens' doing it, they may just think these things that keep going near their planet (our probes) are just meteorites.
They may not know were sending them, or even if we exist. Their just protecting their planet, like we do with meteorites coming near us.

Anyway, I don't think it is anyone shooting our probes down, just the fact that is must be jolly hard to get them to get to places, like Zzub said... All those things floating in space, they could just hit into our probe and destroy it.

well a Russian space probe that was sent to mars took a picture of a big infa red disc thing near to Mars, it was HUGE and was unidentifeid ie a UFO, after takeing that pic they lost the space probe very fast........ ie space probe took pic fast an suddenly got lost and never found..

there were to probes the russians lost these probes cost like billions so they were not little probes they were soem of the most advanced probes to be sent over to mars.

also i remeber reading about aliens on far side of the moon dark side always out of our view, and their flying saucers are little craft but they had big circular ships mother ships hmmm bit like the thing in the russians space probe pic........

Wonder if aliens have our moon an are after mars an maybe more......

Is that true blobby?
I haven't heard of that before, I may see if I can find some information on that... Very interesting

it's kind of true.

What apparently happened was that a shadow of a huge disc shaped object was photographed, apparently the object (shadow) was moving.

Suddenly, as soon as the pic was taken the probe was lost (possibly destroyed).

Blooby, stop being so stingy with the commas, mate

You don't think scientists are stupid?

Have a look at this link. How to destroy $27 million of work in a few seconds.

They must feel pretty stupid.

I believe that its some big government cover up.They are using the probes to explore space more extensively.

Kind of off topic, but doesn't this look like a pyramid thats been buried by blowing sands? Blowing from the "east" to be exact. I can't but compare it to the sphinx which had to be dug out from the sand several times in recorded history. It had been there so long....
