What motive would the Mexican government have to create this hoax? I think its interesting that it's similar to other sightings elsewhere, and if someone truly wanted to debunk it, it would be a simple matter of flying by there again and getting the same footage.

Good lord, what kind of computers is Jim Deletoso using? Nice triple-monitor setup, but his equipment must be from the early 90's.

thing is a lot of footage/photos come from mexico and someone ALWAYS has an alterior explaination...remember "ball lightning"? sureeeeeeeee

im not saying they are ufo's, if shot in thermal/ir then yeah, could be the plumes on oilrigs...but given the similarity to the pheonix incident and other reports outta mexico city...its turning into a lot of "coincidences" for me personally.

I couldn't play the video. Somehow didn't open but anyway. From the pictures posted I'm assuming is from Jaime Maussan's UFO Conference in 2005. I've seen the whole footage (and much more) and I'll be damned if this things aren't ufos. Flares that last 11 minutes? Burning flames on oil rigs that chase planes?
OHHH PULLLIZZZ !!! What's wrong with you people?

The thing with this video,if you listen to the aircrew, they know something is not right. They obviously have flown this mission before, and are familiar with the area. So I believe, a genuine UFO.

Ummm, is anyone going to address the whole "holograph" thing?
Or am I just insane?
Seriously, why would this computer expert think that these things are holographs?

well in regards to the holographs...maybe i misunderstood what he was saying but he seemed to list them as a possibility in the spirit of trying to rule out everything else first. and that short of them being holographs he had no clue..but i recall him saying that what he saw in his opinion was something that fell outside explaination based on KNOWN human technology.

did anyone else understand him to say it that way?

To be holograms, they would have to be projected onto a surface or gas. Unless the object projecting them was able to move at the same speed as the camera, as well as maintain the same speed for the object it's being projected on, I doubt it was a holographic.

I am having a little trouble lining up the rigs, based on the camera's line of sight.
Although it could 'possibly be flares', so could it 'possibly' be something else.

I see their findings as plausible, but not conclusive.

People would panic if it were to be believed to be as true, they enjoy the security of their comfort zone, any thing that ruffles this they'll attack violently.

Everyones an armchair professional these days.

I dont take any sides on this. UFO´s or not but I saw a tv program ( was it on discovery, dont remember ) where they recreated these ufos. They flew the same route as the military planes and they could replicate the effect. And yes they were the oil platforms. I dont know what they were in the military footage but they looked the same to me in the recreation/debunking video.

Hey Mythatsabigprobe, I'm sure that when a military pilot is out flying around, he's familiar with his surroundings. He's been briefed with satellite images among other things. I'm quite sure he would have knowledge of something as large as a bunch of oil rigs below him. What you've shown me is nothing more than a feeble attempt of someone trying to continue the coverup.

Um, yeah...
out of curiosity, how can someone just forget that there is a 1,000,000 ton oil rig just hanging out there?
Okay, that doesn't make sense.
Although, I'm still not taking sides if it's a ufo or not.

I guess that even with the truth hithing you hard in your face nobody cant believe it. This is sad. Really if someone thinks this are oils rings or plasma balls there should have a sight check imediatly.

*Plasma Balls never but never but neverrrr last more than 2 or 3 secs even in the best conditions (scientific enviroment laboratory!!)... this video lenght it's around 11 minutes (and this because it's edited!!!! maybe you saw 30 or 40 sec on fox ..dont know how much footage they pass but the video actually it's 11 minutes!)

* Oil rings produce heat...light and importantly!! Smoke (burning of the gas)!!!!! Oil rings doesnt fly over the clouds, oil rings are not so close by one of each other!!

Now oil rings produce light (burning gas on top) well guess what the pilots never saw the light with their eyes! they could only saw this things over the Flir (infra-red camera not normal spectrum camera, this is not like your sony videocam, this are high end cameras for the military) and 3 objects from the 11 or 12 lights were actually recorded on radar they never but never saw anything outside on that position, they had to relay on the flir video to know where this objects were at what distance and so on. If this were in true Oil rings they surely have see the light produce on top of them with their eyes!! Period!. They are not dumb they fly all the time on that places lookinf for narcotrafic, that's their job each and everyday, they have tousands of hours of flight and are trianed to know what they are seeing, they know where the oil rings are!!, they are military pilots, and my god yes mexico have military but they are more used for narcotrafic persue, helping people and communites when natural disaster ocurrs and some security, they are not like usa blowing up countries around the world just because they "BAD COUNTRIES" labeled.

Anyway i am sorry if my post can hurt somebody but i am really sad to see people seeing a very true video (i am not saying this things are extraterrestrial..there could be new ships from other country, whatever) maybe this happens when a lot of hoax comes around and when a true video every well done comes up the day they alloaver already labeled like hoax because of past experiences...

This is so sad... I wonder when the time comes and a video of a real alien it's release the real thing everybody in here will kill it...that's for sure!

Ocham's Razor peoples!

What's the more plausible explanation? That aliens from another planet were flying their invisible-to-the-naked-eye UFOs in front of Mexican fighter pilots for their infrared cameras?

Or that the fighters' cameras picked up on the heat signatures from oil rig plumes, confusing them for UFOs?

The Skeptical Inqurer did an admirable job of pointing out in its scientific assessment. While this incident is never going to be fully determined, I suspect the answer is much more grounded in reality than alien spaceships or secret government holographic aerial programs or freakin' flying spitballs from Zeus' own orfice....

Having skeptical qualities and a mind that looks for all terrestrial possibilities before acknowledging the fantastic does not make us antagonists or betrayers to the UFO cause. In fact, quite the opposite. Skeptics keep Ufology pure, in my mind, or as pure as it can possibly be. Sorry, but those who immediately declare questionable videos such as this as infalliable proof of alien visitation or what not have long ago nailed the coffin shut on allowing credible scientific inquiry into the UFO phenomenon. And certainly makes it easier for any government to ridicule legit UFO sightings -- because after all, UFO buffs are a bunch of kooks.

Thanks everyone.

I think u confused this with the Phoenix Lights sighting.

I don't think this video is worth a whole lot to the UFO community. What We need is clear, high-res footage of a UFO hovering in the middle of times square. Not this blurry stuff.

I think this is a high resolution camera used by the Mexican military. Might appear to be slighty blurry, given the fact thats its a infrared camera.

www.ufocasebook.com...

At approximately 17:00 PM the Merlin C26A detected an unknown traffic at 10,500 feet over Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche airspace and according to the protocol and suspecting a drug dealer airplane Mayor Magdaleno Jasso made a maneuver to approach the unidentified traffic at certain range to get a close look and record the target with their equipment.

The key word here is detected. Parts of an oil rig are above sea level yes, but not 10,500 feet above sea level!

As the Merlin C26A tried to approach the unknown traffic to make a visual identification it suddenly in a surprising maneuver escaped flying away at tremendous speed. By this time Mayor Jasso tried to persecute the target but it was very fast. All this was being recorded by the FLAIR and also the radio conversations with the base describing the unexpected maneuver of the unknown. However the C26A still have not made visual contact with the unknown object. Just some moments passed when suddenly the unknown object returned and began following the Merlin C26A in a surprising situation.

AND- It's common knowledge that oil rigs have been known to perform manuvers like these all the time.

Some minutes passed while the Mexican Air Force Merlin C26A crew continued making maneuvers to have a visual contact of the unknowns because despite both RADAR and FLIR were showing perfectly clear both unidentified objects for unexplained reasons there was not a visual contact even that the objects by this time were at close range.

AND- They have cloaking devices! Hope they're not situated in shipping lanes. ( Those guys at Exxon think of everything! )

It was during this round and round maneuvers to identify these two objects that something amazing happened. In a matter of seconds more unknown objects arrived to the scene and the disconcert of the C26A crew was total. The RADAR and the FLIR detected immediately the presence of nine new objects of the same size and characteristics, unknown objects that arrived to the scene surprisingly like coming from nowhere.

AND- They can either call friends to the rescue, or can multiply at a moments notice. Rabbits beware. . .

At the middle of a complete confusion and disconcert among the C26A crew the unknown objects suddenly made a maneuver surrounding the Mexican Air Force airplane in a circle at close range. The RADAR and FLIR presented an image of an eleven objects near by in a circle formation around the Merlin C26A. The situation turned out of control. Mayor Magdaleno Jasso reported to the base that the C26A situation was now in red alert, surrounded by eleven mysterious round shaped objects camouflaged with a certain unknown advanced technology that avoid any visual contact of them.

AND- They have a working knowledge of geometry & dogfight manuvers.

After some stressing minutes the eleven objects disappeared giving an end to the strange experience that these members of the 501 Aerial Squadron just lived.

AND- Then they were gone. Those pesky oil rigs must have got bored. Too bad. . .

Statements of the crew, images, lectures, measurements of all the equipment as well as a complete evaluation of the meteorological data . . .

. . .On April 22, 2004 General Clemente Vega, Secretary of Defense gave Jaime Maussan a copy of all the tapes and data collected by the Merlin C26A during the incident for study, evaluation and analysis by Maussan's research team as complement of this investigation and as an external collaborating source trying to establish a definition of the possible motives and consequences of the March 5, 2004 incident.

AND- The Mexicans were not very thorough. Also they were very secretive & selective with the evidence they presented for analysis.

I'm sorry, but unless these guys went thru a whole lotta effort, ( for what? ), and are lying thru their teeth, there's more here than a couple of oil rigs IMHO

So it's the drug smugglers that have the visual spectrum cloaking devices for their fleet? I don't know about that. . .
