The hull and turret are protected by armour plating, including combined armour arrays over the frontal arc. Since 1988, explosive reactive armour (ERA) has been fitted. i dont really think a 120mm smoothbore gun from the abrams can come through two t-72s

but i will believe it with proof.

I read these accounts from a Tom Clancy book. And maybe the tanks were not T-72s. They could have been something else.

Also, I have herd accounts of when Iraqi tanks fired penatrating rounds at the fronts of M-1s the rounds would just stick into the armour like arrows.

Challengers and M1AX's are wonderful tanks, but if you hit them enough with rpg's you are going to disable them.

You might want to know those photo's have been photoshopped, the colors are off and the edges are rather torn, not fakes, but well edited.

you do realise that it is SOP to destroy disabled tanks when they can not be repaired. In both Gulf wars. Disabled tank crews hitched a ride on a hummer and left their tank to be dispatched by fellow platoon mates.
I have a friend who has just got back from Iraq. He is a Tank Commander. I think he said he had a M1-A2 HD but that may have been his second tank. His first tank ran over a mine and he and his crew ditched it. It was recovered my an M-88. He said he knew of only one tank crew fully killed. That crew's Abrams fell off a bridge and the crew died. He did say there were a few casualities from Loaders and Commanders riding "israeli" and receiving injuries from small arms, RPG and IED. He also said that there was like 20 tanks left on the side of the road on the blitz toward Bagdad. They would break and would just be left for recovery.

Modern tanks such as brittish and american ones have explosives inside the armour, somehow protects against special explosive filled shells..

They also build the sides of the tank at a 60deg and lower angle as this helps defflect the shells.

And how it functions..

Well..

When HEAT (shaped charge..) round hits a tank.. and its reactive armor.. one or several of these tiles explodes and lessens the power of the shaped charge explosion so that it will do less or even no damage to the tank..

Ok we never said that a western tank could not get destroyed. They can no tank is invincible. Western tanks are just better. I will see if I can get some picks of the junks yards miles long of Russian tanks and such in Iraq.
