Having A Bash

Personally, I think it's healthy to vent, and natural to be impatient about something like this.

Especially since the changes are "live" and affecting the site in real time.

I hope no one will get too bent out of shape over any of this, however, since much of what's being complained about is temporary.

SO and several others, including myself, have mentioned this repeatedly, and the Dark Matter banner at the top of each page says "Pardon our dust", but I still get the impression that some members are concerned that this transitional state is the final version.

It ain't.

Just sayin'.

I would like to see an option to make your fonts bigger. I also have bad eyes and reading this site strains them badly. If there was an option to make the fonts bigger then each individual would be able to make the fonts to their likeing.

I am also having troubles finding my way around the place know, like where did ancient civilizations catagory go? That is not the big issue though.. the font size is.

Other than that everything looks great.. love what you guys are doing here.

Thanks for reading.

You actually have this option on every website thanks to a trick with your browser.

Hold the Ctrl button and move your mouse wheel.
If it didn't work you may need to update your browser.

I have the most updated version of Firefox but that trick still doesn't work for me. Is that some extension that has to be downloaded?

If you are using Windows XP you can hold the control button down and use the scroll wheel to make the font any size you like.

WOOPS, Looks like Umbrax beat me to it

I use FireFox also. No extension is needed. I don't know why it doesn't work for you.

That doesn't work for me, what version do you have to have of IE? I have 6.0. I thought I had the latest.

I agree with the other posters re: to hard to read. I've upped my text size, but it's still difficult.

Especially if you are reading in a furtive way. Say, while your spouse thinks your are paying bills online, or using your boss's computer while he's out, so your posts won't be traced back to you by the N.S. of A.

I suspect that the mgt. are quite used to the way conspiracists complain about everything, including how there isn't enough change for them to carp about. Mgt hears that about practically everything they do. Lucky for us that midgets are so understanding.

This "redesign" is exactly the reason you don't let highschool kids near photoshop. Look, there are exactly TWO (2) and only two types of sites on the internet that should get black backgrounds: band sites and artsy "Look I Can Draw" sites.

Hmmm...I understand where your coming from...but its white text on grey, and it tends to work well.
It seems that it comes down to taste...and whats more, what I liked yesterday I might not like today. The site, in my opinion, is a couple steps up from where it was before...looks sleek and elegant.
Hopefully Below Top Secret will get the same makeover...

ooo, the screenshot looked bad...my site looks so sleek, until I realized it was because I had Safari running it an not Explorer.

Seriously though, Safari looks good with it, Microsoft never went to design school.

what happened to the "edit" buttons???

Dont see it,

As far as the text, I thought it would be hard to read at first, but it seems fine...and softer on the eyes than the blaring white background that wants to eat my retinas...

Seems this is not a mutal thing though...perhaps its just engrained (the thought) that its not legible, that people automatically respond that way??? Who knows...change is hard for all typically, and its a step by step process. (Change management...personally I dont have the patience to implement change in stages where people get used to it...
)

One thought...it would be cool, like after I finish typing this, if the page redirected me to my post instead of the top of the page of the forum...seems like it used to do that.

another comment...

at the bottom where it said:

user profilefind postsend u2uAIM (This may be my old timyness coming out
), but I would tend to break up the words u2uAIm, profilefind, postsend, and even make an ever so slight button form around them (nothing that is making the sight clunky with to much stuff...if thats the case, leave it as it is floating.)

You know, ZZZ...(falling asleep here) I agree to not judge a masterpiece before it's finished...but most artists, at least if they're any good, don't show their artwork to the world until it's complete.

As for My signature, yes I realize it is more than 5 lines...but the 1st 4 have always showed, and that was what I was referring to. I now only see 2 out of the 4 that used to show. I changed it now so it only shows the websites I wanted visible.

Visible here...seems people arent "letting the dust settle"...
I remember when it was horrible grey text and you couldnt read anything...that was odd, I do agree about revealing to the world (or waiting to) when there is that much of an issue with reading text. But now the dust seems it is pretty much settled.

totally dig the sight.

Sorry, no edit feature, so as I come up with new ideas I have to add a post...but here it is.
It seems that there are quite a bit of complaints...now that the "dust" is settled, and things seem to be smooth, I wonder if those that initially had complaints are satisfied.

Im curious as sites like "Myspace" seem to be popular, but its design is literally so backwards and unpleasing to look at, that I dont use it...(I only signed up to talk to one of my realitives who only uses that as their prime communication point...in which only joined cause everyone esle was using it...what a bad case to make a site like that popular...just because someone else uses it, not because its actually got cool features)

I went to a mac forum, yes I am a mac geek through and through, and have worked on both Windows and Macs, and the fact that news reviews say, "you wanna know what Vista looks like, look at OSX", shows something.

Anyway, in this forum everyone bashed Myspace, which one user asked why if its so popular...and I think its only popular as everyone is now networked into the nightmare as people are with Windows.
So they feel stuck.

Im pointing this out, as it made me wonder about ATS new design...if everyone think myspace is so great, ATS, in comparison, is a dream...you wouldnt think anyone would be complaining. If ATS site were to look like myspace I wonder what the comments would be then.

anyway, my point is...I think the users here have a sweet deal, with good navigation...vs. other sites out there that just dont seem to work.

I have said my piece about the whole topic...so I will wrap it up here.

Peace

I think ATS already looked fine, the dark crap just seems cold and negative.

The silly little forum icons are just silly, what happened to the old ones that actually looked like something instead of whatever they supposed to be.

This dark thing is just, well, dark, gloomy, and uninviting.

An option to switch back to the old version look would be cool, i liked the minimalist no-bs, easy to read, and well thought out and executed layout. I'm a function before form kinda guy, and the old version was the most functional site i've been on in terms of being able to find and read information comfortably and easily.
