I've been busy so this all was a great suprise to see going into action. There have been some excellent changes since the beta phase and the 4 options at the top are among them.

Personally though, I have no trouble reading anything.

Awesome work guys... Now,the complaints about not being able to read the text will hopefully cease.

I actually increased my 'lightness' on my monitor, which tended to blend the contrast
a little better. (rather than decreasing 'contrast')

And it wasn't much of an adjustment, BTW.

Might be worth the effort , to experiment a little, eh.

On a side note, I sure do miss my 'My Recent' posts button.

Otherwise, looking better , by the minute.

I'd be curious on those statistics...Is that actual from previous changes and quantifying member opinions on those changes? And what about this thread:

It seems the complaints mostly are that it's hard to read, and especially over extended periods. That's a pretty serious concern, at a core level. If it's hard to read, members will spend less time reading, and less time viewing ads... Interesting that this particular complaint never seemed to be this big an issue before with the previous color schemes, but maybe I'm wrong on that. It is starting to hurt my eyes as well. Gonna havta break.

Yeah, I saw that too, but what's curious is that SO would make all these changes before having the options in place. It would seem from previous endeavors that providing the options, and assessing feedback would matter greatly before such a major implementation. And particularly from those members who are known to spend a lot of time here and are exposed at length to the new color scheme. Not just from the breezers through who see it and go "Oh cool, pretty colors." Previously, I could spend hours and hours here with no problems. Right now: max 30 to 45 minutes before eye fatigue.

Humm, better but still . . . I got to get used to the colors. My son would love this colors, but me been a more brighter person It will take some time to get use to the darkness.

I even have windows in my high ceiling for god sake that is how much I like light.

I guess no everybody can be pleased.

But the site does look mysterious and kind of . . . match more the conspiracy angle that ATS is all about.

Personally, I would'nt mind it if the "Darkest" setting were even darker still. (black background - white text)

Now, if I could just get a new skin for my browser to match ATS!!!

Thanks SO. I just used the lightest and it just made my day. Now if we could just set our prefs to have them all come up without one more step.

KL, that is 'recent posts' , not 'My Recent', if I'm not mistaken.

As I've said on more than one post in this thread, we don't have a partitioned sandbox area to refine designs before launch. Some of the core code-base changes enabled easy addition of limited customization, and we now have the ability for members and guests to define how the text in threads is displayed. As we continue the "dark matter" evolution, these settings may apply to other pages as well.

I've tried to repeatedly express that this is all a work in progress, and will likely take weeks to fully complete (much of which most members will likely never notice). Feedback and suggestions are helpful and always considered... but some posts seem to be more bashing and criticism which tends to just be frustrating (most in another thread).

Good job SO, and there are some of us that understand what it takes to overhaul a site of this magnitude

That being said, I think if you have the time to eventually make 2 more options (white or light gray text on black backgrounds, and black text on the old light gray background) pretty much everyone in this thread would be satisfied. Me personally, I get used to color schemes pretty much over night and was already used to the gray when BOOM more options came. Cheers.

SO,don't lose heart... You all are doing a fine job. I think that like with anything new, there will be some critics.However, the same ones that are griping will be, once they get used to it, the ones talking about how awesome the changes are the most. Watch and see what I tell you.

I don't write too much here on ATS, the language barrier is a little hard to pass, BUT
i look at this site every day now,and since a year and a half. I can say i m a "consumer member"[?] and i have little webdesign skills. I love the Dark, i have only black clothes
since ten years now, so black and gray shadows are not a problem for my eyes.
I feel the new layout and design very nice, modern like ATS, mysterious,stealhty[?], seductive and its reflects the "high class" information delivered on this site.

I know this is a "in progress work" and Lord has do a great job,with a lot of time on it.
But every one feels and see in differents ways, so a color custom feature would be a good thing. A last word about "the monitor size problem"(web design graal), i have a 20" crt screen and a big stripe on the right side, and i no more confortable reading post...,"centered fixed widthin design" could be a option? I don't like politics, i m not from right and not from left... so i like it in the middle... neutral like Swiss

I'm having technical difficulties at home (hmmm)....Wow, i can appreciate the changes, but please dont take it offensive, i know the administrators work so hard around here, however my first impression of this whole look was like being thrown back to 2003 or 2004 at first glance.
As i look more carefully, i like the tabs and I think i will get used to it..i know i will it will take a little adjusting to...

Congratulations for the revamp which i am having a little difficulty with at this time but i'm sure will grow on me like hair on a wart.

This is just outstanding, i thought it was crap at first before i realised i was on when they where updating it to this theme, also there are some places that still need changes like the profil page etc (aka ATS store place etc)
