I heard that this was more like a nuclear fart than a nuclear bomb at ~4KT. Still give you a bad day but at least it wasn't thermo....yet

It appears the nuclear test was real, so I really don't see how Kim can retain power since now he's lost his only ally, China.

It appears now the U.S., China, South Korea and Japan are in a hot war with North Korea.

Don't you believe it. China is playing both sides and they have been since day 1. If they were serious then they WOULD stop them and not deliver a bunch of lip service.

I dont think we should go to war to save face.

I'm not worried about NK having nukes to use, I'm worried about them selling nukes and the arms buildup as a result.

I think we've put ourselves in a very very bad position. We're in Iraq and Afghanistan, there's no way we could fight against Iran and NK. Both have extremely well politically indoctrinated militaries. If we do go to war, its going to get very bloody very quickly. If we do go to war, I expect to see the draft. If we do go to war, it will initially be conventional, then nuclear.

Very troubling. I wonder how bush is going to handle this, seeing as he's not a particularly impressive politician.

Who says anything about invading? Why would we invade?
The goal with these countries would be to destroy their nuclear weapons capability. That is possible without ground troops.

I don't think we'd send troops into a country run by a crazy person with nukes anyway...

You may very well be correct, but then we'll give Japan our latest nuclear weapons atop our best missiles, which will not make China happy.

This whole thing has the possibility of totally destabilizing the region.

The news said NK wanted 400KTs, and it didn't go off like they wanted. 4kt's is pretty small as far as nukes go.

I bet we go for the blockade, the Pacific Fleet can pull it off, they aren't all that occupied in the Mid East like the Army. We won't invade, but if the blockade leads to war, the South will absorb the NK thrusts, (there won't be much of SK left though) and the US can counter attack and probably get to Pyongyang fairly "easily", of course they keep a couple of nuks ready for that possibility too.

Again, bad or worse, take your picks.

I thought they said the Pres was going to speak, but I don't know now.

The only country that has been bombed by a nuclear weapon? And by the US at that?

Hes getting ready to speak. Doesn't matter the size it will kill. No matter how small or big it is. People can die if put in the wrong place.

Japan is one of our closest allies now...

Anyway, we wouldn't need to do that anyway, there was an article recently and it was mentioned earlier in this thread that if Japan wanted it has the technology and capabilities to have nukes (

Hm, what channel is Fox? The fox I switched to is not showing news.

Yeah, The US response would not be boots on the ground (except for the possability of Special Ops).
But it would be done by air and sea power.

After all...Its reported that North Korea has a army of 1.2 million.
But our fighters and bombers could easily rip that country apart.

Fox just read a White House statement, so maybe the pres isn't actually speaking.

Just an observation here, flicking through the first 2 pages and people were in denial, calling BS on this alarming development. Yet, as the reality became more apparent, everybody seemed to be tuning into FOX for the latest update! FOX!?

damn work filters..

would someone mind taking a screen shot of him speaking.

I beleive u can tell how someone feels more from there eyes and there face, than from there words.

Yeah 4KT is pretty weak, but still a nuclear explosion no less, and this is the worse possible situation for China. A new (pro US/military) PM in Japan combined with this situation is not what China wants, I truly believe that they did not want this test to happen. Also, this will bolster support for the opposition for SK's president's plan to gain more control of SK's military from the US. So don't be down folks, it's just Christmas come early for the US.

I didn't mention invade. I'm talking about the ramifications with Iran and the Iraq theatre.

Fox just said 550 tons yield. That is pretty weak.

I am at Fox, because I heard CNN start the, well they feel threatened by the US and it's for defensive purposes. Now I suppose there is some element of truth to that, but I don't want to here Commie News Network sit there and defend NK.
