For awhile now I have been thinking of how the Artists of ATS can get back to work, since our recent competitions have been put on hold. Then it hit me, what if he had a competition for an ATS wallpaper. Unfortunately this hit me when I was nowhere near a computer and by the next time I was logged on it never crossed my mind again.

Yesterday, being bored and not much to do. I visit google and start searching for different terms. I plug in Deny Ignorance and it turns up this:

Which also brought me to this:

ATS Wallpaper Competition

I thought, Wow! I really thought this would be a good idea to bring up to the members of ATS since it appears its been awhile since this has been attempted.

1. Thematic. Anything related to the subject matter of ATS, it could be Roswell 1947, it could be Florida 2000. Any theme covered on ATS is fair game.
2. Deny Ignorance. Any interpretation of the phrase 'Deny Ignorance'. Take this one wherever you want.
3. Artistic. This one is kind of an open-ended one, for members to go wild with their artistic talents, it must include AboveTopSecret.com prominently as part of the artwork.

Rules:

* NO COPYRIGHTED PHOTOS. None whatsoever. All work must be 100% original. You must include the website address (abovetopsecret.com) clearly on all submissions. Ideally in the bottom left corner.
* ALL submissions are subject to the ATS Terms and Conditions (ie no nudity, profanity etc) and all become property of ATS.
* File sizes must be NO LARGER than 400K.
* The pixel size of the Wallpapers is to be 1152x864.
* Each member may only enter one wallpaper into each category.

Rules were clear and simple, wouldn't need any adjustments there. If we could get a few Mod's onboard here to do some possible judging we could have this up and running by the end of the day.

I will refrain from throwing any suggestions out as this would be the Mod's ship to run. But I would love to see this take some life.

What do you think?

Along with a lot of people I know, I make all of my own wallpaper, so this really rocks if it gets off the ground.

You have my VOTE

Glad to here that Semper!

We as members can arrange this ourselves, and I would be happy to do all of the legword. Planning, setting up the rules, etc. but if we can get some staff members on board then we can offer rewards, etc.

I will see how this plays out in the next day or so, if it does not seem to be taking life I will contact several members via u2u and see if they will participate as judges. They would remain anonymous and if they did decide to submit an entry it would not be eligible to be judged.

What I like about this is you have so much room to work with and you can throw a slant on it. Make it a paranormal background, political, anything that is ATS related.

Hopefully we can get some feedback ASAP. Again, if not I will contact some members personally and get the ball rolling.

I have contacted a staff member via u2u, and have used the Suggestion button aswell.

The information is out there, now we need to wait for a reply. We'll give this some time and be assured that several members have had the chance to view the thread.

To be honest, I would be very surprised to see this not take life. I would expect to see members chomping at the bit to get this going.

I viewed some of the previous submissions in the last competition and they were remarkable. I will try to find the link where Kano displayed the entries.

Here we go:

Its a great idea to bring back the wallpaper competition!

We have a lot of very talented members and it would be great to see some more creativity come to light.

At this time I would like to open the Competition. It is to create the Wallpaper/background image with an ATS touch to it.

As I've shown above, this is just a continued effort that Kano has initiated in the past. All rules are the staying the same, I have just copied the information for this existing competition. I have adjusted some of the information for this current competition, but all of the work for this has to be awarded to Kano and the DISC initiative.

Design a wallpaper/background image incorporating your favorite aspects of one of the following three categories:

All submissions should be sent to [email protected], along with which category you are entering it in, and your ATS username. All submissions must be in before the end of September. Judging will begin in early October.

We have nothing set in stone for awards or if any will be available at this time. I will contact some staff members and see what we can come up with. Pride and Honor are enough of an incentive for now.

Good luck, any questions please place in this thread.

I have been in contact with some senior staff members and the awards go as so:

1st Place: 20,000 Points

2nd Place: 5,000 Points

3rd Place: 2,000 Points

Also:

Judge:
Perhaps maybe more if the overall standard is that high, which I'm sure it will be. Plus a bonus for any particular outstanding entries that perhaps haven't won but we know the artist really worked at.

So people, the points are out there. Get crackin' on those Wallpapers and send them to [email protected].

I have been given the word that we have a fine staff of Judges who are looking forward to this competition.

Good Luck and Feel Free to experiment.

Please Remember! Only your first Submission is Eligible to be Judged!

Take your time and don't submit anything to quick. Anything after your first submission will be ignored, along with no Edits. Now were not in the business of restricting ideas, so feel free to submit more than one wallpaper per category but they are not eligible to win.

At the end of the competition, all Wallpapers will be displayed so it would be fun to see the members come up with. Only! the first one can be judged though!

Good luck and Have Fun!

Thank you Chissler,

Count me in. This sounds like fun. You should see if the mod's can send a mass U2U to get more people interested.

I'll look into the mass u2u when alot of members are online...shhh I didn't just type that.

So when say 2,000 guests and members are on I'll drop a link and you all can see howit goes over. But if any thing goes wrong and one of you gets yelled at by Admin, remember it is "my" fault and I'll take one for the team as a member for you guys. But only because that Stonehenge background design ROCKS!

Thank you Semper!

Just to clarify one thing on that, It is important that all submissions are viewed by nobody but the Judges. I am not a judge, and may compete in this. So I have contacted a few judges and will do one of two things:

Turn over that email address for the time being, and have them adjust the password.

Or

Have the Judges create another email address and we can edit the location submissions are to be directed to.

Pumped to see this take some life! ADVISOR, I have made a few steps to have a mass u2u sent out, so anything you can do as well would be great.

Well, .Gif Animated Wallpapers are not something I have come across very often. However, The restrictions go as follow:

* NO COPYRIGHTED PHOTOS. None whatsoever. All work must be 100% original. You must include the website address (abovetopsecret.com) clearly on all submissions. Ideally in the bottom left corner.
* ALL submissions are subject to the ATS Terms and Conditions (ie no nudity, profanity etc) and all become property of ATS.
* File sizes must be NO LARGER than 400K.
* The pixel size of the Wallpapers is to be 1152x864.
* Each member may only enter one wallpaper into each category.

So if you can keep it under 400K, then go for it.

Great Idea!

We will make this procedure that when a submission is recieved that the artist is sent a confirmation. Allow 24 hours for the confirmation email, as the judges may not be on board right away.

Count me in!

So we can submit upto 3 wallpapers, one from each category but only the first will be judged? Will there be sort of an "exhibit" thread with all the wallpaper submissions after the deadline?

Yes, all submissions will be on display after the deadline.

Submit ONE from each category. It is left to be decided whether or not we are having overall winners, or from each category. If we have a big turn out then we can have winners for each category, if the turn out is alittle lackluster than it will be an overall winner(s).

We have recieved some submissions and the standard has been set high. I had told members that did participate that they would recieve confirmation within 24 hours, so I have viewed some of the submissions. Therefore, I will not compete in the competition. It would not be fair for me to view what other members have done and then create my own. I will submit some entries, but they will not be eligible for judging.

To those that have made a submission, Thank you!
