"Well since we buried the USSR with about 5% of our GDP and we're the world's most powerful nation with 4% of our GDP, I say bring it on. That's right people, for all your clueless bleating about how much America spends on defense, the fact is it's 4% of GDP, a PALTRY amount and it's not going bankrupt America, EVER"

well, for one we did not bury the USSR, they collapsed from internal pressures worsened by too fast loosening of their curency and economic markets. Something that China is wisely avoiding.

two, the GDP is a meaningless Number for your debate. You would have a far cleared picture to use defense budget against actual private industry gross reciepts, something our government refuses to do because all percentages would be alarmingly high. Gauging any spending against a massively bloated budget that includes horrifically high spending programs across the board.

third, why do you think the Federal reserve refuses to distribute M3 money supply figures..? the USA is in serious trouble, due to bloated budgets including defense spending

Well, I though it meant just that, and I find the notion that we have Marines up there zipping around in space firing lasers and docking to their starship terribly hilarious.

Why do you find it so strange/impossible? Do you think America could/can not manage to do so or do you think they just lack reason to do so ? How would you fight on the Moon if you wanted to evict someone/something?

Which is why i tried to specify that by 'shuttle' i did not mean ' the shuttle' but shuttle ( back and to ) MISSIONS between the Earth and the Moon. If your going to let your bias cloud your eyes to this extent try not be as agressive when responding to my posts.

which BTW isn't possible, Its rockets can only get it to ISS altitudes.

And you think your the only one who knows the 'secrets' of the shuttle and what i can/can not do ? In the future check some of the authors previous post's and try discover his technical and tecnological 'awareness' before just moving directly to insult.

He says he saw names of "non-terrestrial officers", which he then assumed meant that the US must have a secret space station.

He saw a great deal of things other than that and it was not in just one instance.

And he even admits he was stoned when finding all this information.

this guys a joke.

So being 'stoned' ( as far as i know he just admitted to doing drugs at that stage of his life) disqualifies one from discovery or technical ability? I think we would still be back in the stone age if we disqualified every breaktrough/jump in knowledge made by people who's habits we considered somewhat 'strange'. Think about it.

Also, that bloke who hacked into the Pentagons computer networks stated he found details of US fleets and ships which were non existent in any Naval fleet and officers which didnt exist on any ships at sea, thereby assuming that they were extra terrstrial Naval fleets.

I personally believe that stoner got lost in a Star Trek role-playing site, where they have all that stuff up and pretending like it's a real fleet. It all sounds very naval, and if some government worker at the Pentagon was getting his geek on as closet Trekkie, he might have been fooled.

Just one question...since both Russia and US have means to detect launches (both space and ICBM launches that is) not to forget the satellites orbiting both sides...how would exactly the US keep secret "shuttle" flights between earth and moon, as well as "secret" space stations?

Launching space missions would require a rocket launch (kinda hard to conceal...maybe a stealth rocket?
)
They would be picked up right away wouldn't they? They're in plain sight...all the Russians have to do is look above...

And since Putin doesn't want US militarizing space, he would rat it out right away, to have global opinion against the US, instead of covering it up as well...just a thought

www.newsmax.com.../9/7/03649

the above link is about Vladimir Putin warning the US about not militarizing space, you see, the whole world is worried about the US militarising space for when one nation holds the monopoly of poower in space, they effectly control the planet and have the stealth ability to strike anywhere anytime without anyone knowing what is coming and there is a real threat of another space based arms race that nobody will win, because the costs involved would make the Cold War costs pale in significance and countries will run the real risk of bankruptng their economies if they havnt started a space based world war 4 already.

I read a book on this subject its called ''Rushing to Armaggeddon'' anybody read it??? It's fascinating.

That would be awesome, crusading against the hordes of chaos, slaughterting stuff, and wearing giant power armor. I bet there all slow and in space suits with high tech guns right?

At the risk of going off topic and sounding geeky...

The Space Marines, ie Adeptus Astartes of Games Workshop fame, are not slow and the Bolter is not high tech.

In fact, much of mankinds High tech is lost and the Adeptus Mechanicus make a meal out of anything that is left and worship it.

The power armour they were has machinery and artifical fibres which mimic muscle and enable the Marines to have full maneuverability at no cost. They are also heavily augmented with genetic enhancements and other bits and bobs.

Anyhoo, thats my Geeky bit over..back to painting my models....

I used to play Warhammer 40,000. But that stuff got so expensive! And since the store that sold them (where we went to play others) closed, I had no one to play it with. I am now selling what's left of my army , which includes 2 Land Raiders
, a Dreadnaught, etc.

I really enjoyed it back then. That was like 2 years ago. Maybe some day, if I find people to play it with and get some EXTRA money, I might restart playin it, MAYBE.

Well if both are in fact doing it why would either say anything about it? If your shooting for strategic dominance there really is no reason to tell anyone about it as you will be able to get what you want without showing the 'big stick' often. Satellite coverage is not as complete as you might think and the only thing that would really give these launches away ( given neither governments wanted to keep it secret) would be visual observation. Far more complex secrets have , and are being , kept from the general public.

Well that is assuming that either countries have been stuck in the rocket era ever since 1940's. Even with rockets the USSR conducted so many launches ( known)that they could have snuck a small army into space had they cared to do so. The question is not if either country had the capability ( they had) but why and how they would have kept it secret from the rest of the world.

And since Putin doesn't want US militarizing space, he would rat it out right away, to have global opinion against the US, instead of covering it up as well...just a thought

The USSR/Russia had a long history of signing arms control treaties AFTER they had the finished the required research to implement/operate the weapon system banned.
USSR military spending is and was largely a secret to the west and considering the black hole that is the US defense industry spending i would not put it beyond either countries to have bases and armies on a number of planets. The money to do so certainly got spent and that's just what they admit to being 'missing'.
