Is there any information about if ATS is going to do anything in regard to the "employ investigative reporters" answer in the 2011 ATS User Survey?

That question and answer must have been there for a reason right? I did a search and looked through SkepticOverlord's and some mod's postings, but didn't find anything. Any chance you guys could let me in on what that is about? Or am I jumping the gun and should just wait for you to feed the masses with new info?

I'm sure this has been suggested, but may I second that we be notified when someone replied to us in a thread?

Go to your messages, and then click on "replies" situated to the right of Inbox. You can see who has replied to you then.

I'd like the ability to see who starred a post. Just like on Facebook.

I'm sure it's been considered, any reason why it hasn't been implemented?

(sorry if it's been mentioned)

I went reading a members posts yesterday and almost every time I came to a post that was the last on the page it put me at the top of the next page and I had to go to the previous page and scroll all the way down to view the post. WHY? It has to be a glitch. Can you fix it please?

Site staff: Please take this suggestion seriously and weigh its pros and cons.

I suggest the ability to click a button in each thread, maybe next to post reply, which allows you to view the most starred posts in order. This way, threads with 20+ pages won't have to be sifted through to find what are most often the most informational posts and agreed upon ideas. This will cut down on trolls' ability to derail topics and will allow you to see the consensus of opinion.

There's nothing more frustrating on this site (besides auto-redirect ads which are uncommon these days, and too large or center-positioned banner ads which malform the navigation bar upon hover) than trying to read a thread that has too many pages, each full of useless banter, ad hominem attacks, and one or two liners that contribute nothing to a thread.

Sometimes the most starred comments don't add anything important to the thread, they are just sarcastic one-liners or something along those lines, unfortunately.

I don't know if that would be good, the posts would appear out of their original context, like when we see all the posts from one member in that thread.

Also, stars are not a measure of how we think.

Don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but better search capabilities would be nice. For example, if I search for a phrase, it's unclear to tell if the results are by date, number of posts, or what. I've noticed a few threads that get "necro'd", and without seeing the date of the last post withing the main search results, I can see where that can happen quite often.

I would like to see the option of being able to completely close out one's account including all posts, comments and threads started.

I realize this would make some threads incomplete but a simple "Comment removed due to no longer a member" would surfice.

I believe all posts and threads started are removed with people who are banned.

However rather than having to get banned why not give people the one time option of leaving ATS but on good terms.

I would also humbly suggest that this option only be given once and once this option has been requested no rejoining would be allowed.

Thank you.

I would like to see the flagging system changed . I think we should be able to issue RED flags for hoaxes and dubious threads. Each red flag issued to the OP would then cancel one of his/her standard flags.

An excellent Idea , if I say so myself

Incomplete threads would be a real problem.

In another in which I am a member, I had that problem, although from a different origin. Someone made an off-topic thread, but later he/she removed the opening post, so my post (that was the first answer) became the opening post, and I was accused of starting an off-topic thread.

With the removal of posts from members that closed their accounts the same would happen.

Also, posts and threads from banned members are not deleted just because he/she was banned.

I think everything is good as is....the more complex you make the site, the more problems it will face down the road.

After being kicked from the ATS Chat last night due to miscommunication (I was confused for someone else in the chat at the time) I dug into this a bit deeper, I went back over the T&C (yes I actually sat down and read through it
), then looked around for a place to make suggestions for these forums, and eventually came across this thread (sorry if I'm digging up old news, I'm not trying to be rude in anyway whatsoever).

I am very tired at the moment so I may have to come back here in the near future and touch up this post as well as make a few others.

The first point I want to make is that after I actually read through the Terms and Conditions, I realized that not only can they be updated at any point in time, but that we have a "grace period" of 15 days until the new changes go into effect - where there a few changes to the T&C at all since the beginning of July??? Honestly I don't know. I read through them before when I first signed up, but I did so very quickly - at the time, I was much more interested in seeing what these forums had to offer than what the actual terms and conditions were, just like any other normal person would due, unless otherwise affected by such things previously.

I realize I am not the only person that knows this, afterall, the T&C are put there for several reasons in the first place. They are there to protect the owners and employees, as with any other organization.

So, my first suggestion would be that whenever there is an update to the T&C, that everyone is immediately notified - this should be very easy to do, afterall I've already received several server wide e-mails from staff concerning various things.

I think this would be a good thing for not only the users of the forums, but for all staff and owners as well.

Why?

Because if everyone knows what is going on and what changes have been made, there would be far less problems to deal with by the staff. If we are not staff, and are simply here to discuss different topics or look for information, should we be expected to read the entire T&C every 2 weeks and then keep a log of them so that we don't forget anything and make a mistake?

My 2nd suggestion would be that there is a dedicated Suggestions thread for everyone to use. I did manage to find this thread, but honestly I have no idea if this is the correct place to be posting it or not, simply because I did not sit here and go through each individual post.

This also would be a quick and easy fix, and would result in less problems for everyone across the site.

Thank you for your time,
-Time2Think

what about more compact posts so theres more room for replies on a page sigs n avatars appear just the username and post.
u click on post and it slides open to show replys and first reply users avatar and sig maybe.. like that would make ATS look like something really above top secret i think like how the ribbon opens now.
and replies maybe not quotes should show right under the post that is being replied.. what u think

I don't like it, if I understood it well, people would need to click to read the posts, and there's no need for that extra work just because of a "cosmetic" change.

But that's just the opinion of someone that doesn't like too much work.
