Well mods and FSMEs can bump and 'sticky' threads. I see what you are saying, but can you imagine the outcry we would have. Do you remember the '250 Club Incident',lol........That would be nothing to the cries of 'elite members getting control of the board',lol. A lot of times well put together threads do not get much debate because there is nothing to debate. For example I have threads with over 60 flags (and over three applauses) that only have 3 pages, and none of it is debate. I have seen countless other members who post rounded threads meet the same fate, there is nothing wrong with it IMHO, it just means you made a perfect thread.

I believe you are right. I mean, take say a second American revolution vs Britney Spears is actually Buddy Holly reincarnated, how can anyone try to debate which topic holds more significance? Everyone knows a revolution is nothing when you have an Obama!

Jokes aside, my only concern is an important thread missing the radar. While they are plenty visible on category pages, people like me that mostly browse the recent topics page probably miss a lot? Also, an applause thread page may coax an otherwise uninterested member into broadening their interests?

I agree, something needs to be done. But what and if I do not know. That is for the high staff to decide.

As far as I know you can post audio from the Media Portal, I have seen it done before (it started playing as soon as the page opened, but that was corrected).

That is a good idea, and considering that the U2Us received are a result of popularity on ATS, maybe a flags received count would be correct as a way of measuring popularity and trigger the flood control switch.

It could be abused, obviously, but I think most members that reach a high level of popularity have (or gain) a different understanding of their responsibilities.

Well I saw a couple of ideas was trying to read through all of them but it starts years ago. Anyways, i wrote down a couple of the ideas i liked that i saw and I have a couple:

-Prophecy tracker, as far as i know there isnt one yet.

-Educational classes area, where you could pick a certain topic and get a few pages on whatever is know or at least point you in the right direction.

-Mathematical evidence forum, because alot of discussions here can be resolved if not made more interesting by giving an idea pof what the math has to say about it.

And the last idea

-Document and picture area, which could hold important documents or pictures that have relevance to the site.

Or Alternatively...

-A popular Link area, which could also be used to create link to documents or pictures that are continuesly used.

oh one last one how bout a research area/forum, where people can post what experiments and what results have been found...I.E.: Like with say the "ghost box"

Thanks for the chance to post these.

One more thing I want to put forth is similar to one already put forth a few posts back, but with some modifications.

Maybe we could have a section dedicated to the more educational and research type threads and one dedicated to the more speculative or unknown type threads.

For example:

  • [color=gold]This is an example of an informative type thread:

    -The Lakenheath-Bentwaters UFO Incident

  • This is an example of a more speculative or unknown type thread:

-UFO releases intelligently moving spheres! First ever video footage!

That way these two distinct types of threads do not conflict with each other and the top flagged ones of each respected section get seen. I do not think it would take much code to do, but I could be wrong
    .

Also maybe some time down the line we could have it where when you click on a tab or other thread shown in the 'thread box' on the right side a new window opens. This would eliminate the need to open multiple tabs in ones ISP and would be much more convenient, especially when cross referencing or actively posting in multiple threads at once.

Of course these are all just friendly suggestions from another member of this great site but I hope they are at least considered at some point and time in the not to distant future.

Thanks for the support my friend, and yes those members usually will have a better and more mature understanding of board etiquette.

    Insert an ATS Hyperlink

Please can we have an Insert an ATS Hyperlink button when posting a reply.

When posting a link to another ATS thread, you have to use the hyperlink button and enter the thread title and url.
As the url and title are already held in the database.
What about a new ATS button which you just enter a thread number or post number?

That's a good idea, and one that I think would not be hard to add or that would add too much work to the servers (although it would need at least one database access when now it does none), but I don't know if people would use it.

I would like to add a small suggestion. Just because I can't seem to navigate easily to another member's pictures.

There is a thread right now from Beauty_HairyBeast with a Great UFO photo. But the photo is cut in half. I have gone to her ATS profile - but haven't found my way to get to her media/photos so I can see the whole picture.

So, here comes my thought/suggestion - is it possible to have a link/button at the ATS profile that people can click to take them directly to that members ATS media pictures.

OH - and one thing about the pictures - I use the picture area a lot and put them in threads. In the beginning (it seemed) the media/pictures link would pop up - compared to taking the page to the media area. But it doesn't now - which I have to open up a new window/internet link and come back into ATS to do photos - so I am still in the thread I want to add pictures to - but need to get access and upload the pictures.

Just a thought of getting that to pop up and automatically creates a new window - so we don't have to come into ATS again to get to our photos.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't mind an additional feature.

If there was a way to flag certain members as "A Favourite Author", and then possibly have a link beside the "My ATS" button that was for "My favourite Authors", I know I would use that quite a bit. It would ideally take you to a list of recent threads by your favourite authors.

I wouldn't stop my usual route of checking out Recent threads, but when I have been gone for a few days or more, I usually come across a really great thread weeks after the conversation has ceased, that I missed.

The posts move so quickly, and though I would love to read every thread on ATS, sometimes time just doesn't permit.

    Something to consider, maybe.

    Thanks!

I'd like to see a section dedicated to historical events. Members could post their research of these events in well-organized reports in the section.

I personally haven't seen many reports on historical events on ATS, but the ones I have seen are scattered in different sections. It'd be nice to have them all in one place for people to learn about important events, whether they were as widely known as World War II or as lesser known as the First Opium War.

I think it would be good to see something educational like that rather than having to sift through unrelated threads or threads only dedicated to discussing a world event and not learning about it.

    New Suggestion

I would like to receive a U2U notification when a friend posts a new thread. It would be the same concept as subscriptions on YouTube.

May I humbly suggest a new forum in the "Science Topics" section of the board ...

    "Singularity/Transhumanism/AI"

This is a massive topic, with loads of interesting and relevant information, and with increasing practical implications, which surely deserves its own home on a board such as ATS.

Excellent idea. I was thinking along those lines myself after reading a couple of brilliant threads yesterday. A way of following that poster's other threads without having to visit their profile every so often would be useful, although they're normally on the recent posts page anyway.

On that note, a way of finding a certain member's post within some of the larger threads would also be handy too. For example a thread on a recent UFO story that is 23 pages long and all you really want to know is what Internos, Phage or JKROG08 or anyone (just the first names that popped in my head, there are loads more) have posted because you don't have time to trawl through the posts of them all. So would a text recognition system that could filter out pointless flaming, might be a bit tricky that one.

I was also thinking that there should be an annual awards event too where people could vote for their favourite threads of the year, maybe top three, which could be collated and ordered. The winners would receive some ATS gear as prizes and some digital reward to boost their online identity. Maybe this would inspire people to have a go at more interesting threads and would slowly remove the "Foghorn Leghorn Actually Symbolises the Antichrist!!!! - AND I HAVE PROOF!!" threads that some of us find as contributory as syphilis. Other awards could include most helpful member, avatar wizard; and the FSME badges could be altered to be relevant to their field, or fields.

I searched for awards and saw that there had been some debate over it. I don't think annual would be to strenuous, and would be good for the members. But not running an organisation myself, I wouldn't know the logistics in implementing such a scheme or it's eventual product open to all the abuse of any election...

When's the next ATS game, anyone?

    Hi Simon,

Not sure if this has been suggested, most probably has. How about a live chat. Forum styled, but one a lot faster paced than the post, reply.

The threads wouldnt be killed off by this, since topics, conspiracies and so on, require research. The live chat would just provide a grounds to openly discuss and bounce ideas a lot faster.

    What you think?
