I am very pleased that they've included her in the cast. She was my favorite actress on Boston Public, showing quite a remarkable talent for portraying the different types of emoitions on screen.

Alpha Grey, on your link...

Heroes (Paul Sylar) - Paul Sylar is NOT played by Sean Bean, contrary to rumours and the IMDb (Rumours page has been updated).

Great episode

Ack! I was so close! I knew that Claire's friend would be the one who was going to be attacked, but got pretty much everything else wrong.

You guys were right, Sylar is evil, and that short haired girl did indeed hypnotise Isaac. I still have my doubts on Claire's father though. Now that he has Sylar, I think he is going to have him do his evil bidding (as seen from the next week's episode).

Thanks to the previews, I think I can predict where Niki's powers derive from. She must of had a twin sister who died at birth, or was killed off by her father when she was young, and now the twin's spirit/soul inhabits Niki's body.

[edit] I don't know why I keep saying "Skylar."

Good show as always.

It looks like I was correct in that Sylar’s power is only telekinesis though I was quite surprised that he was using it to cut open people’s heads.

I did find the plot of this episode a bit predictable. As soon as they showed the painting of Peter being “dead,” it seemed obvious that he was going to be fine because of Claire’s powers. The “previously” segment at the beginning of all the episodes kind of clued that the dead cheerleader would be Claire’s rival and not Claire.
There were some rewarding moments like when Claire punched her out and when we got to see Sylar using his powers.

I’m expecting next episode is going to give us some big revelations.

Well last night's show was a break through finally. At least they are starting to come into contact with one another.

I suspected Eden wasn't all good girl as we have been led to believe. I'm not sure what her deal is yet but I think she is going to be a very powerful player at the end of this.

Good times...

Eden clearly has the power of suggestion. Sylar is a can opener of sorts I guess.

I thought it was a great episode but there were two things that bugged me. For starters, did anybody really think Peter was going to die? He's got the ability to absorb and take on the powers of others when they are close. So, in rescuing the cheerleader he would have the ability to regenerate. Predictable there. And his powers lead me to number two. Shouldn't Peter have been a bit more powerful and put up more of a fight with Sylar? Ok, maybe he didn't know what the power was when he was fighting with Sylar but he seemed to know that he could twist his shattered limbs back into place without being told to do so by Claire.

Next week looks to be a really good one, with backgrounds on the people and their powers.

TV Guide Exclusive: Sulu Beams Aboard Heroes
As exclusively reported by TV Guide magazine, none other than George Takei has been cast as the father of Heroes' Star Trek-obsessed Hiro. "It was one of those lightning-bolt ideas," series creator Tim Kring tells TV Guide.

Wouldn't that create a paradox in the show? Hiro and his friend has mentioned Star Trek before a few times. I believe one of the times had been when Hiro was discussing the power to travel through space.

George Takei is playing Hiro's dad. He isn't playing himself or Sulu.

Sylar must have other powers.....how were those others frozen like they were ?? I think Sylar absorbs powers from other "heroes" which would explain his stealing of their brains ! the other powers he gets are hard for him to either control or use.

This show rocks !!

The only power we've seen him use is telekinesis, Rather that type out my last post on the frozen body, I'll just quote it

Sylar for sure possesses the power of telekinesis. We saw that last episode with the coffee cup.
It could be his only power.
Telekinesis can explain every thing we’ve seen so far except the frozen body. The other body was up on the wall and stabbed with items from the house. Syler was shot and got back up. Telekinesis could have slowed or stopped the bullets. Hey flew away, again can be done with telekinesis.
Maybe down the line we will get a flash back of what happened when that body was frozen. Maybe that was the victim’s power and Sylar reversed it using his telekinesis.
I don’t have a clue about cutting the tops of heads though. He could have a sword under his coat I guess. Maybe the sword we saw on “future Hiro” was Syler’s.

You guys keep in mind that Jeph Loeb is a Co-Executive producer and a writer for Heroes. Loeb also writes comics (for fun) so he has a lot of experience when it comes to writing different ways to use telekinesis.

I am all for dramatic tension, but this show is a bit laggy. In nearly every episode all of the plot advancement happens in the last 10 minutes, with the first 50 minutes as filler. Although, if Mohinder actually becomes and interesting aspect of the show, instead of some sniveling 'my-daddy-didn't-love-me' cliche, I will add his sequences as a little more than filler upping the percentage of the show with some meat to about 25%.

Another gripe I had was the build up of the entire 'homecoming' sequence and the importance placed on the paintings. If the build up was literally months in the making, do I feel validated with a 10 minute payoff? Every time they have any type of previews for the show, they show scenes from the last 10 minutes, WITHOUT FAIL. Why do they not show any scenes from the first 50 minutes? Because they know they got nothin' going on before the last "Stay tuned for more heroes" promo with Nikki comes on.

This is the same problem I have with Lost, but at LEAST with Lost, they are telling backstories that make the characters more believable instead of just cookie-cutters of archetypes we have all seen in many different forms in many different comics without what makes the comics interesting, the inner monolouges. Hearing the characters struggle with their powers is what makes them seem more human, and not just a cardboard cutout of a human. The devices that are employed to this end on the show aren't really convincing. Ando is obviously Hiro's sounding board, and will prolly end up dead or gone after the 'Heroes' come together. Same with Zack for Claire.

(Another thing, is Zack gay? It was hinted at bigtime, but it wasn't tacked down. In the first episodes I got the vibe that Zack was interested in Claire hardcore, but then in this episode it seems like he isn't really interested at all anymore.)

I don't see where that would make a difference but because it was referenced so much in this episode maybe it does mean something.

I too thought he was interested in Claire but perhaps he really isn't gay but just doesn't feel it necessary to dispute it with the other cheerleader because he is comfortable with himself as he stated with Claire and doesn't feel it necessary to defend himself with someone like the other girl.
Also if he does have feelings for Claire making her think he is gay might be easier for him to be close to her. If she thinks he likes her in that way then perhaps he risks losing her friendship.

As an extenstion of Claire's inner turmoil, Zack's being gay in Hick, Texas would be a good way to illustrate the need Claire feels to keep her secret from everyone, including her parents, whom would be the FIRST people I would tell if something like this was to happen tome. It is just something that should have been addressed sooner than the episode where Claire decides she is going to 'come out' to her father.

Correct, but the point I'm trying to raise is that Hiro mentioned Star Trek in the past, meaning he is aware of the "Sulu" character existing. Now his father looks exactly like Sulu, in the 'Heroes' universe, so he must have taken notice. This could explain why he is also a Star Trek fan as well. His father might have influenced it on him.

Okay, let's go to the Micah, DL, Nikki-Jessica route for a moment. I'd like to get someone else's take on it.

I think that a few things could happen here.

1) Nikki regains control for a moment and prevents the shot from landing

2) The moment DL realizes that Nikki knows where he is, he phases and isn't shot.

3) Micah's powers extend past technology, and can be applied to the human machine as well.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Or they could just ignore it.

Look at a movie like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,Mallrats, or Dogma. Ben Affleck and Jason Lee play multiple parts, and Jay never makes mention that The Angels, Demons, Banky, Holden, or any of the other characters that these guys play look like each other, or even Ben Affleck himself, who plays himself in JSBSB.
