Masturbation

Even if some do consider masturbation a sin, isn't the word "masturbation" the PC term for the act anyways? I mean, it is a perfectly acceptable term for pleasing oneself. It's not a dirty slang word for the act or anything.

Does your teacher want you to censor the word "sex" out of all your books too?

God thats so daft. The vatican made and make anything that could compromise their stronghold on their followers. "Its like, science is a sin!!" because it threatened their grip against their hypnotised believers. You do know they found a scroll of the bible, a chapter like a prologue, before genesis, explaining to not take the bible in a literal context.

Well....if you believe in Christ....and Follow The Bible and it's teachings....it is a sin....and if your any sect (Christian) it still applies to you... I know theirs a scripture some where...maybe in the New testament that clearly states that it is a sin...It's goes along the lines about how one of the biblical figures spreading? his seed on the earth....that seed being...you know what. I'll ask my missionary friends later about it though, so hold your horses!! ....SINNERS lol...

Also I forgot to mention....I believe that it's commiting two sins...for one act.....If you think about it...not only are you wasting your seed...which is one sin....and another sin would be Adultery....unless your thinking about...Pink Rabbits and Lollipops I highly doubt that your innocent of Adultery....because just thinking about pornification is a SIN!!!

The scripture you are refering to is in the Old Testament, where God condemns Onan for "spilling his seed upon the ground", rather than impregnating his sister-in-law (for anyone reading this who doesn't know the story I am refering to...you have to read it in context...)
It has nothing to do with masturbation; it has to do with cultural elements regarding responsibilities of males towards their extended families, in that culture and time-period...

For those unfamiliar with the story, a succession of Onan's brothers had been married to this same sister-in-law, each dying without producing an heir. As the sole surviving brother it was Onan's "responsibility" to see to it that his brother left an heir, even though his brother was dead. It was his failure to assume this responsibility (including the idea that he used his sister-in-law for sexual gratification without assuming the responsibility involved) which brought his "act" under condemnation.


Masturbation, as such, is never discussed in the Bible, that I am aware of.

I believe a lot of it comes from 19th century religious attitudes towards "self-abuse"; I think their descriptor pretty much sums up the attitude of American Christianity in the Victorian Age...

Flyersfan, I know about onanism. It's probably one of the reasons why to modern, (or modernistic) Christian religions masturbation is as about as much of a sin as not eating fish on a friday.

I'd like christians to put forth a logical reason why masturbation is bad. Quoting scripture or telling us it's a sin isn't going to change our minds.

Apoc put it quite well. It's just silly to call it a sin for the reasons put forth by the Onan story. What's more, it's considered a mortal sin if you're Catholic, which means you'll go to hell if you're picking up a pound of beef right before you die.

ok, I have a question. If it's not a sin then what do you think of while doing it? I do remember lustful thoughts ect was a sin wasn't? If you thought it you might as well have done it.

How about this:

A baby plays with himself, then gets an infection a few days later and dies. Is the little tyke gonna fry in hell forever?

As for synonyms, how about "beating your meat?" That one is my favorite, but "choking the chicken" is pretty funny too.
