Well, WW is a bit busy, but she has encouraged me to the point of giving me the title of Brevet-Challengemaster. Due to people like Cyberkat and a few others, we have decided to run a minor Open Challenge, running until April the 6th. I have been placed in charge.

I'm a musical person, myself. I have a hard time going without it for a day, even a few hours. I hum. I sing to myself. to me, all of life's great moments are accompanied by music. Even without thinking about it, you associate songs with memories. Since music moves me, it should move you too. I declare the Music Open Challenge open.

The challenge, writers of ATS, should you choose to accept it, is as follows:

Write a story based on a song. No more than five lines of the song may be inserted. In addition, you MAY NOT USE DIALOGUE!

Please include the name of the song you used. Any genre is acceptable, even those without lyrics.

Remember, even if you aren't a writer, you can participate. Hell, I encourage it. Just post to the Short Stories forum. Yes, there are prizes. 2000 for first, 1000 for second, 500 for third. 1500 points discretionary, for honorable mentions. No word limits. Please include the abbreviation (MUOC) before your title, and good hunting. U2U me with questions or comments.

What about monologue? I've got the perfect song in mind, period piece.

Edit: To add, helluva idea.

Go for it. Monologues are acceptable. Dialogue, as in,

"Hello Jim Bob," said the rabbit.

is out in order to CHALLENGE the people. Go to, intrepid. I'll be waiting on teh results.

Let's just say that if you're a fan of the Irish Decendants, you'll know what's coming.

BTW, they're coming to town Friday. Woot woot!

I'm in. Humming a fine tune at the moment that should go well with the contest guidelines.

"Momma, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboysssssssss..."

Hehehehehehe.......(and no, I still haven't gone to see Brokeback Mountain)

Give me a few days and i'll have a story or two.

Love and light,

The Write Stuff

You heard the man. The Brevet-Challengemaster has spoken!

This is a great idea for a contest. If I can pull it off, I've got the perfect song in mind -- although it will tend to read like one of my grim haibane backstories.

What is it with me and grim stories?

Oh well, maybe this may help shake me out of this uncreative stupor I'm in.

Besides, writing a story without dialog is a particularly stimulating restriction for a blabbermouth like me.

Good luck, fellow writers!

Majic, all you need to do is write the story and then make a podcast of it and include the link as an entry.

You get to write, blabber and have the best of all possible worlds.

You know, i've been thinking of this a bit and it might work. Say you want to reply to a thread but don't feel like typing a long answer. Make a podcast and include the link to the cast in your reply to the ongoing thread. I just wish there were neutral ground to post the cast to so as not to mess up the pod pages. Oh well, just a thought.

Love and light,

Wupy

I'm there! I love music and songs. I've got so many favorites, I'll have to take a short amount of time to pick which one.

BTW, I have no idea what I did to spark interest in this challenge, but hey, whatever is was, I'm glad. It ought ot be lots of fun!

Squeal of delight! This will be great! Brilliant idea, DE!

I have always said that a true sign of artistic genius is being able to paint a vivid picture in the mind of the reader/listener--with words, music, or both...

Now, the question is, can I do justice to one of the long-standing vivid pictures in my head?

good to see such a strong showing from the traditional heart of ATS's writing community. I'm hoping to attract a new set- new writers are welcome, and mods are eligible (if they can find the time).

Go to, writers. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Hello, this challenge sounds fun. I was hoping I could submit, granted I'm brand new but I was hoping I could still throw my hat in if that was cool with the rest of the crowd. Also where should we submit?
Thank you.

Few and far between are the contests where I'm Johnny-on-the-spot with a submission, but for once I do and nobody else gets in early with me. Oh well though... Masqua and Mr. Wupy- what can I pay you guys to just sit this one out and let me win? j/k.

Hello, eviltrevor...you may be new to this board, but I bet your mind has been around for a few years. Please consider submitting a story in this contest...I'd really like to see what you have to offer.

You know the old saying..."a new broom sweeps clean"...well, sweep these cobwebby writers here with some fresh ideas. That certainly would be cool with me.

And Vagabond...
...no way.

How long or how short should the stories be? How many words would the 'recommended length' be?
