This topic seems like it's ended? Oh well
I'll post about something anyways... Lol...
I think the next "Windows" is Longhorn. Not sure what features it has, don't follow M$ that much. I am one of the people who prefer Linux/Unix
You all seem to have big powerful computers
I have 4 computers, but none up-to-date, lol. I am building a new computer next year hopefully. But
then I am only 16 so I am not expected to have a lot of money, and considering I work freelance, I don't get much money at the moment
Anyway... My computer specs (in short) are:
desktop1:
P Celeron 800mhz
192mb SD-RAM - PC100
40mb Western Digital HDD
Dual boot system - Windows XP Pro and Linux Redhat 8.0
laptop1:
PIII 1GHZ
512mb SD-RAM (PC133)
20 GB HDD
Windows XP Professional
desktop2: (My 'hacking' machine, also like to practice bringing down Windows on it, lol)
PII 366MHZ
64mb SD-RAM
3.66 GB HDD
Windows 98
desktop3: (My Linux testing machine)
PII 500MHZ
128mb SD-RAM
20GB HDD
Linux Mandrake 9.0
As you can see I don't have any high-spec computers, lol. I don't care much though... Linux runs great on low-spec stuff. When I do build my new
computer I will use an AMD processor though... Cheaper and much better in my oppinion. (Even though I don't have any at pressent, lol)
I don't have broadband yet either
May get it soon on my home network... Happy with dial-up for now, would be a help though, I could host my
websites on my own servers then instead of paying someone else to.
Someone mentioned about XP Home and XP Pro... Well my knowledge of it is that XP Pro has better support for networking and has the IIS web/mail/FTP
server included. But you can't host multiple domain names on it, you need to buy Windows 2000 Server for that apprenty (rip off). I just use Apache
on Linux anyways, lol. But anyways... That is the only differences between the 2 XPs from what I know of (I have used both at home), oh... Plus the
price tag is different
Has anyone used Windows 2003 Server? At one of my work places they were going to upgrade their network servers to it (From NT4 Server), but I never
actually got to use it.
Pheew... This was a long post... Sorry.
