I saw on Fox News the other night a debate between some senator who wants to pass a new law making it illegal to smoke in your car if a child under 16 is present and a female smoker that opposes it. I'm wondering what others think of this. If you post a reply, please state whether you are a smoker, if you have children under 16, and what you think about this law.

I'm a smoker, but don't have any kids.

I think that whilst this measure could be considered to be a little excessive, I think anything that prevents kids from passive-smoking has to be a plus. That's of course ignoring for a moment the fact that a massive number of 16 year olds are smoking themselves anyway!

I'd love to stop, but can't (despite having tried several times using various methods).

Personally, when i settle down and actually have kids, i'm going to give up smoking. For starters, i dont want my kid starting, and second i dont want them to be gifted with asthma by the time they're 10.

Smoking is a funny thing isn't it.

In the beginning they pushed it on people now they are so desparate to rid us of it they will do anything.

Yet they are eager to push it onto the third world too.

Strange,

but consider this, natives smoked a very pure form of tobacco which they used in special ceremonys. The reason it slightly elevated their spirits and in some cases caused them to have visions. Mind you they smoked good amounts and I do not know how strong the nicotine was.

Nicotine has also been found to be one of the best know mental stimulants there are. We are all aware that caffeine is another but it is much less effective than nicotine.

I see it like this, as we move from 3d to 4d some people that are more elevated to begin with and that also smoke are going to start seeing things that they are not supposed to see.

That is why the authorities are clamping down so hard on tobacco.

THENEO - So what do you think about them trying to pass this as law? Do you smoke or have kids?

Gorerinder and UniversalFiction - I hear ya! I too am a smoker and would love to quit. The only times I have been able to stop cold turkey is both times I found out I was pregnant. I didn't have any problems throwing them away but....as soon as I popped out the babies it was back on..........I don't smoke with the kids in the car and forbid anyone else in my car to smoke.

I think the unfortunate people who are amongst the steadily rising cancer statistics would disagree with you there. I don't think there's anything more to it than the obvious health issues.

I've stopped a few times by slowly cutting down, I think each time I lasted maybe a few weeks at most. My most successful time was the one occasion I did it cold turkey, and I ended up lasting almost 3 months.

I can't actually remember what started me again that time. I've got a funny feeling it was alcohol. I don't drink, but when I did on a special occasion, I was straight back on them again

I agree with THENERO on this one. Anything that promotes a thought outside of the "Box" must be done away with.

I smoke, I have kids "19 + 14", so? I also agree that the tabbaco has been mutated from its original form to make it more addictive, and poisonis.

Also, lets see the studies of smokers IQs compaired to non smokers..................

You want to help change the world? Get the Satanist's that put fluoride in water, and mercury in your teeth. Get the Satanist's that start wars, and kill kids outright!!

The woman that was opposing it was a smoker but did not have children. She took the stance that this was an infringement of her personal freedoms.

ALL SEEING - Are you for the law or against it?

This is coming from a psycho grad student, but i've found that if you cut out drinking and replace your social habit with something like say, oh, barbituates, quitting is alot easier.

im a smoker, but way to young to have kids. i think if i still smoke when i have kids im going to quit for their sake. i love smoking but hate it at the same time. i can understand why they would do this. i dont agree, but i understand. if they are going to keep making these laws they might as well ban smoking. but i think they would lose a lil to much money. so that would never happen.

Which is easier to quit, smoking or the new habit?

I have no children of my own, but I won't smoke around other's children. I also won't smoke around a non-smoker if they ask me not to. It's stupid to try to make a common courtesy type of thing into a law. If people don't want me to smoke around them, I won't.

...the air your kids breathe,I would suggest you keep them out of your car and away from places where they are driven, brake dust, tire dust, industrial pollution, even the air in a new house is bad,so just have em wear a gas mask.
People need to get more real about this #,smoking cigarettes is the least of the pollution problem here, this whole world is full of toxic garbage from your furnaces, burning trash, your cars that need a tune-up.The more you give em the more they take, you keep supporting assholes who want to worry about the air quality in your car and next thing you know they will be going house to house sniffing your furnace fumes in the winter, and writing you a ticket if it isn't up to some bull# specification.
It's a scam dudes,it's about control, look ahead and you can see it coming down the pike.
Now if people lived forever unless they breathed polluted air it would make sense, but they don't,and it doesn't make sense.
You're body is gonna die someday, and their isn't a damn thing you can do about it,your ill health toward the end of your life will be used to clean you out of what money you may have in the end,why worry about it,stop paying insurance companies all that money for nothing since they can't save you anyway, doctors, lawyers, nobody can save you, you're all just a profitable herd.
The biggest scam in the history of the human race and everyone is falling for it.
#ing Stupid.
Besides, illness and sickness feed the most lucrative industry in the entire world ,the medical scam-meister industry, they promise you nothing in return for everything you own.
Stop worrying about things you can't change, spend your energy on something that will actually make things better for those you leave behind.

Hmm. I dunno. I'd imagine that the line between personal freedoms and infringement of others personal freedoms, becomes very fine when those freedoms are blatantly affecting other peoples health. Seems a little blinkered to me.

This law is BS and is an infringement on peoples rights. The govornment has absolutely no right or say what a person does in thier own family or doesnt.

They go after smokers, yet there are worse things out there for kids than thier parents smoking. One is milk, which laden with hormones, pushes kids not only into early puberty, but causes growth disorders. Theres also a worse health problem amongst children: obesity. I dont see them pushing to make it illegal to feed your kids twinkies or make them fat, yet fat kids will become fat adults, and have horrible health problems.

I smoke, but do not have kids. However my mom smoked, my aunts smoked, when I and my cousins were in the car. We lived in the worse pollution stae in the US: California at the time, and none of us had any problems, and my cousins never became smokers.

This is just another example of the govornment trying to stick its worthless and too nosy nose into the porivate affairs of citizenry, another big brother law disguised as "being for our own good" like the ridiculous seatbelt and helmet laws.

By the way, what state was this in, or is this federal?

Venus, i'm not saying to get addicted to barbs, but just pop a couple a day and you're so relaxed you dont think about smoking. after about three weeks i wasn't smoking, stopped popping the pills, and i was done for about a year and a half.

Kaoszero - That's how I feel about it too. But there are a lot of people out there that don't treat others with that kind of consideration. My brother, for example, actually lit a cigarette while holding my son when he was days old and looked at me like I was completely out of line when I asked him to put it out.

I've been waiting for you
(I mean that in a good way)

I believe the senator was from New York. I'll go see if I can find anymore info on it for you.
