That is a comforting though for the pasta lovers in the US. Specially the ones that survive on Raman noodles and macaroni and cheese.

I am glad I stay away from gluten and wheat and prefer qinona.

Mixing different strains of wheat is common, done for flavor, texture and results. This may indeed be a case of grabbing the little guy to defer blame from elsewhere.

There is more to the story - BUT - the "cause of the contamination" is a kaflooey out-of-balance world with weird new microbes that are allowed to contaminate our food. These microbes multiply under certain conditions - and a shipment of grain is much like a hot potato - you don't want to be the one holding it when the count slips over the limit.

Whatever else is going on, Food Standards and Safety are a big issue here.
