Souljah, you've started a topic on this on Jan 4th, feel free to discuss there.

Hospital update: 5:00 Jerusalem time [EST+7]

Sharon has not opened his eyes, but he has moved his right hand and leg in response to stimuli and as a clear reaction to pain (no reflex).

The hospital said, it is too early to say if PM paralyzed on left side.

Sharon's strokes caused damage to his right brain.

(see also: What happens when the right side of the brain is damaged?)

Update:

For the first time, Ariel Sharon showed movement on his left hand and leg today, the movements his right side were more intense; his breathing was more independent.

PM Sharon still remains in critical, but stable condition. His life is not in immediate danger All vital signs - such as pulse, blood pressure, urine production and intracranial pressure - remain steady and within the normal range.

Sharon's sons remain by his side, speaking to him and playing recorded Mozart pieces for him and well-wishers brought Sharon's favorite foods into his hospital bedroom at Hadassah Ein Kerem, including an order of shwarma to stimulate his sense of smell

Update:

PM Ariel Sharon remains in an extremely worrying coma. An ultrasound conducted after removing the drain from the prime minister's brain showed that there was no expansion of the brain ventricles; an EEG test conducted Friday showed that Sharon's brain lobes are both active, in accordance with the prime minister's state of consciousness.

Sharon willl undergo a CT scan this evening, after which surgery will be carried out to insert a tube through his neck into his windpipe in order to replace the connection to his ventilation machine.

A tracheostomy is usualy performed when the patient is going to require mechanical ventalation for permanant or prolonged periods of time. Obviously there is much more going on than his doctors and family are letting out.

Yes. I am worrying, too

But I thought this is a minor surgery that has to be done because the plastic tube currently connecting the prime minister's windpipe with the respirator will start to cause him damage if it remains in for too long?

UPDATE

from Yael Bossem-Levy, spokeswoman for the Hadassah Hospital, Ein Karem:

The condition of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has worsened and his life is in danger

In a CT of Sharon's stomach Saturday, doctors discovered that his digestive track had been seriously damaged

In light of the damage, it was decided to immediately operate on Sharon. He will undergo a laparoscopy, in which a tube is inserted into his body in an attempt to open the obstruction.

It is now said, the surgery is expected to last three to six hours.

Meanwhile, Sharons sons and officials from PM`s office also arrived at the hospital.

Seems like the media is getting mixed info on this one says it is his digestive tract the others say it was his intestine that cuased the problem.

Doctors Remove Part of Sharon's Intestine

Doctors removed nearly 2 feet of Ariel Sharon's severely damaged large intestine during emergency surgery Saturday, but there was no immediate threat to the comatose prime minister's life, a hospital official said.

Dr. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, director of Hadassah Hospital, said doctors removed about 20 inches of Sharon's intestines during a four-hour operation after a scan revealed that the area was damaged. That amounts to about a third of the intestines.

The good news is he is reportedly in good condition after the surgery.

yes, i kinda keep up on Sharons condition here @y net news.com which presently has 3 current reports/updates
( its now 12:24 PM, on 11 Feb '06 )

but, very soon...18 February 2006, the former PM of Israel will
have been "taken away" for a period of 45 days
hmmm..... that is interesting !

Mr A Sharon has a very strong Will To Survive, that seems to be
stronger than the induced coma state he is in.
