M5.0 quake jolts northeastern Japan+
(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, April 22_(Kyodo) _ An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 hit northeastern Japan Saturday night, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 11:36 p.m. quake. No tsunami warnings were issued.
The quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Ofunato and Ichinoseki in Iwate Prefecture and Minamisanriku in Miyagi Prefecture, the agency said.
In all, 309 people, including 231 children, have been moved from Korf and Tilichki to the town of Ossora about 220 kilometers (140 miles) further south. A total of 195 people (120 children) have been sent on to regional center Petropavolsk-Kamchatsky about 1,000 km (625 miles) to the south, where temporary accommodation has been set up and medical help is available.
