At the moment I am in 10th grade and I can not believe how stupid some of the kids are. For example, in the 8th grade I took a flight science class. While there the teacher asked what is an aircraft carrier. One girl actually did not know what a #ing aircraft carrier was. She was actually surprised what there were ships where aircraft could take off from. Just a few days ago in World History class we were talking about some important figures in history. Some people did not actually know who some of the people were. God damn. What is happening to America's youth? There was a survey done about geograohy around the world. American actually did almost the worst in the poll. I cant believe how stupid American children are becomeing. I and a few others are the holdouts. We are the ones who study about things we are not assigned in class. I study for fun. So people what do you think of my statement. Is the America youth becoming stupid?

Its a #ed up world, but yes.

Part of it is the agenda of schools to dumb everyone down and make them equal. Once, we had gifted programs for the gifted students, and slower classes for kids who werent up to speed that needed extra help. Now, we have a system that dumbs everyone down to the same level. the smart kids get bored, even average kids get bored, and the teachers are doing a #ty job of teaching. It was pure # 11 years ago when i was in highschool, id hate to see how bad its gotten.

They arent teaching the kids anymore, they are being indoctrinated and given classes on how to get in touch with themselves. The teachers are mostly 60's dropouts who would rather teach 10th graders finger painting than what they really need to know.

Populkar culture also helps dumb kids down. Since there is little eductational material for fun out there, kids brains get turned ot jello by pop culture. Its everywhere. the internet, while supposed to help kids learn better, also makes them dumber, especially when they spend more time in the chatrooms instead of the encarta.

Hmm I felt the same way in highschool but I think all of my peers knew what an aircraft carrier was. During my later years, in highschool, I went with the smart kids, though. So my perception is probably different. But even then, there were like groups of kids that would huddle together and try to squeeze on good thought out, in order to complete homework assignments. It was pathetic.

Hey they didn't stop the smart kid tracks, or at least post 1998.

One strategy to employ when authoring opinion on the state of the education system might be to utilize stellar grammar, syntax, and spelling.

The "education conspiracy" is not a planned system to dumb to kids, but a planned system to remove responsibility from the schools and teachers. Your material is designed to be just enough to help you pass the next test... nothing more. You are being taught to memorize, not to learn.

That is also what I have been thinking. All I do is memorize and take tests. Some of the teachers seem to be trying to make an effort though. At my school the teachers were willing to give up medical benefits for there families and $130 from there paycheck because of budget probelms in my district. We are $2.3 million in the red.

Very good point, William. One of many points, but yes, they concentrate on numbers, how many idiots they can churn through the system.

But,t he dumbing down is there as well. Thats part of a liberal agenda to make everyone equal. They dont like the fact that some kids are ten times smarter than others, and do better, so, to push forward thier own twisted agendas, they want to level everyone down to the same dummy pit so they can further jellify the kids brains with garbage.

This is another reason i dont support teacher raises. They make decent slaries, get three months of vacation in the summer, two weeks in the winter, a week for spring break, plus union benefits, and assorted federal holidays most of us never see, and they still cant teach kids worth a #. If I saw some teachers who actually were doing thier friggin jobs, I might.

But out of 4 years of highschool, i can remeber, out of about34 difffferent teachers for different subjects, about 3 who were deserving of some sort of benefit or reward. The rest, well, lets say I passed my tests by going and edcuating myself, because the drivel they were trying to spew was the same # I learned in 4th grade.

Any my poor spelling on the computer is due to my lack of keyboard and typing skills. In written grammar and syntax, Im alot better, because im more accustomed to thinking and writing.
The computer is more for informal thinking.

You are the first person I've read a post from on the internet who I actually believe has dyslexia. It makes me sick when people who just plain don't make the effort to spell or learn even semi-decent grammar use dyslexia as an excuse.

Edit: Don't you just HATE it when you mispell grammar?

isnt the old saying " you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink"/

I think people these days are just lazy and dont want to be bothered finding out this stuff. We are so bombarded with information through the net, tv, radio etc that people are just switching off through information overload.

I am in the 11th grade and I know other students that still can't spell the word, "because". I think that this is really messed up. There are some really bright kids out here in the U.S. Out of the majority though, 3 out of 54 students are exceptionally bright. The teachers at my school, in my opinion, are doing a great job with what they have to deal with, the slow students. I was shocked when my English teachers gave us a handout that had a bunch of transitional words that we could use on our essay, in the 11th grade, you should not have to need a handout with words to help you write an essay. I wish I could get into a school that would actually teach me stuff that I didn't learn in grade school.

A very common misconception is that being smart or dumb is about what you know.

Exactly how does this make Jetsetter look stupid? Because he has the cognizance to understand that there is a void that is not being filled in the public education system? or because he admits he is a 10th grader?

Your post is hateful. I respect Jetsetter's courage to speak on this.

There is no hard feeling toward that guy. He joined today and has only made 17 posts. I believe that he will get to know us and be a little nicer.
