Okay, I've found a couple more reputable pieces on this and it seems that the killing was merely malicious as the tiger wasn't in the cage with the soldier just bit his fingers off through the bars. Thats being the case, now reason for the animal to be killed, just to keep you damn fingers away from an animal that has most likely seen a shortage of food.

www.abc.net.au...

www.cnn.com...

"A U.S. military spokesman confirmed that a member of the coalition forces shot and killed a tiger but gave no further details.

At the tiger's cage, now empty, pools of blood showed that the soldier passed through a first cage intended only for keepers and stood next to the inner cage's narrow bars. "

Thanks guys for giving the world a little more ammo. way to go.

Let me ask you all this, if you were in Iraq with all the terrorist attcks and RPG attacks we are seeing on US forces, would you allow your sensed dulled for even one moment? Party? Party hell? I'd be trying to keep my a$$ alive long enough to get out of there.

Whats worse, is that tigers are endangered! This poor beast was already hungry and probably nerve wracked ftrom the constant bombing and shell dropping. She probably hasnt had a good diet, and, was probably abused, so it wasnt in the best of moods.

The two soldiers involved should be severely reprimanded. One, for being drunk on duty, and two, for careless, stupid behavior that endangered thier own lives and got one soldier maimed. If there commander does not instil discipline and punish them, then he should recieve punishment himself.

That is one of the many things that plagued our military when I was in :the lack of discipline and repsonsibility leading to further demoralization. I saw soldiers lsoe thier entire careers for telling offensive jokes or something else petty like that, yet something like this is far more damning and dangerous, and can further damage reltions, discipline, morale, ect.

Our army has gotten too soft, and commaders simply dont care.

Yet another reason we need to bring our troops home so we can do an overhaul ont he military and get rid of this rot that threatens to destroy it.

First off, we are all animals. It's a shame that the soldier shot him/her. Most of you are right, the drunk didn't deserve to live of it took that chance. I think this whole story is yet another sign of U.S. military not giving a rats ass about anybody else but their own. They don't care about the people they kill, intentionally or otherwise, the havoc and destruction they cause. They think they are so superior to everyone else, it is just so sickening. Those people will pay their price when they die; ignorance is not an excuse.

THENEO, you make some ridiculous posts.......I can say with a large degree of certainty that I would have "done better", because I wouldn't have willingly teased a Tiger with my arm.

While much of anti-Americanism is unfounded, your Pro-Americanism is even more so, you are an Ultra-patriot, your more right wing than ThomasCrowne!!

I say this because you justify a soldiers idiotic actions with "we saved your ass in the war" crap.

People are worth more than animals. We can build cities they can't.

We blow up, nuke, and raze cities to the ground. They cant.

People are not worth more than animals. People are animals. Stupid human mistakes should not be saved.

Anyone who wanders into a tigers cage and gets mauled should be left to his fate. Human stupidity should not be allowed to be fostered. It should be weeded out of the gene pool. This is a good start. I think more idiots should wander into wild creatures on thier own whim so they can get eaten alive, and thus, prevented from breeding more retards. Eugenics at its finest.

Agreed.

Thomas Crowne is a smart person.. allthough his views are some what #ed up.. but he cant help it.. he was raised that way..

Btw, cant we allready let the poor Tiger to its 'rest'?

It has been dead for a while allready.. and this topic is turning to mud pit material..

Because, Fulcrum, this poor tigers death is invicitive of a larger problem.

This poor tiger deserves justice. We cannot forget the foolish death of this poor tiger. he must be allowed to speak from his grave.

The problem is the poor morale and quality of the US military and lack of any discipline or order amongst the troops, otherwise, this tiger would be alive today.

Tho the tiger should not even be in a zoo, he should be in the wild doing whatever it is tigers do.

But the problem is showing how bad things are getting in Iraq. No discipline, poor morale, now we have drinking as a symptom and troops, getting into trouble not on duty.

Its a sign of bigger problems that cannot be ignored.

And besides, I like tigers.

Skandi,

discipline.. funnily this is first thing that soldiers lose in 'battlefield'..

Only force that i have heard of that had good discipline right up to the bitter end, were the ww2 German forces.. Paratroopers and Waffen-SS..

All other armys have allways had problems with bad discipline and moral..

And seems to me that US troops are especially prone to this..

am i right or wrong?

If you really understood the current state of the military, you wouldnt laugh, Uni. It is not funny.

The US army has never had this poor a state of being before. Morale and discipline, while never at peak, have usually been alot better than they are now. There is a definite lack of cohesion and unity within the ranks, as well as horrible amounts of miscontrued information.

When i was in, I was beginning to see a massive drop in morale and order. Younger soldiers were comming in with less respect than the older ones, and senior NCOs and Officers not enforcing military bearing. I watched young privates getting out of training basically calling officers dude, and yo, wuts up, ect. And No one corrected them. This is NOT normal. When i first left basic training, I was so uptight and wound up that I was snapping to parade rest for specialists and PFCs with higher rank than I.

So, its not normal this degredation, nor is it sound. When i actually tried to correct the ragtag new troops and instruct them on a little bit of military respect and discipline, I got berated for being "overbearing".

responsibility, ect all these things gone to pure # now.
