Drunk US Soldier Shoots And Kills Rare Tiger In Iraqi Zoo

I am sure they do tests. But many of those guys were just weekend warriors before the war. They have been there a long time. Missing their families, babies, and lives. Plus if I were to see (I have never seen) people and bombs blow up, buddies die, driving around in a hummer wondering if a lampost was going to blow up, or a sniper just around the corner, I think a couple of cold ones now and then would be kinda nice to take the tension off (when it is safe to do so). I am there for my country, I didnt ask to be, I was told to, and I will for the USA.(figuratively speaking for me of course (civilian)). They were in an area that was secure (reletive)? I dont know. But setting around with some of the locals eating and some drinks, and yes maybe one guy had too much. Sounds secure to me, seriously. If it wasnt, I imagine there would be a bit more going on than dinner with some locals.

Umm yeah, if I was visiting a zoo and had a friend with me and he got attacked by a tiger and his finger came off, I would shoot the mother #er too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that alcohol was not permitted in Iraq, or various other Islamic countries.

I don't think anyone is generalizing to the point that all the US is bad because of the actions of two drunken idiot soldiers.

But come to think of it, if the US had not illegally invaded and occupied Iraq for reasons that were a crock of lies, there would be one more rare tiger alive today, and nobody complaining about two drunken idiot soldiers...

Iraq is far more secular than most Islamic countries, without the same level of prohibitions.

Foreigners can get alcohol on the sly wherever they want around the Middle East as long as they drink it privately.

Sure, its a shame that a beautiful tiger (my favorite animal, beside the shark) got shot and killed to save a moron, but I imagine that you'd feel a bit different if you were that young and immature moron, who just got a second chance to live and learn.

1) What do you think it should be? Capital punishment for a dumb, drunk 18 year old that has seen combat, and a misfortunate buddy who had to shoot a beautiful cat to save a moron-buddy's life?

1) I don't know what the punishment should be, I was asking what you think it will be! There are two stupid kids involved in the wanton destruction of a rare animal (through stupidity and defending a stupid fellow soldier). Both are subject to punishment. They are fortunate they will not be subject to the traditional Iraqi punishment, I am sure. But what is the prescribed punishment?

2) I take your point about the "host" nation. I put the inverted commas over "host" because it is an unwilling host and is in fact seized US territory. The number of dumb 18 year old drunks is innumerable. The number who go into a tiger enclosure, and destroy a rare animal, would be minimal. An interesting question again of what justice is to be served.

HOW THYE # DID A SOLDIER IN IRAQ GET DRUNK IN THE FIRST PLACE?

When we were in Saudi, we were allowed no alcohol. Because of Muslim customs, culture, ect. And that was durimng a lower stage in the conflict.

Since when did they lift that ban? We always considered the desert the drying out tank for problem drunks who get sent there, so they are forced on a 6 month dry spell. The only place we could go to drink was Bahrain, and we only got to do that one friggin day.

But I say again....where the # are they getting alcohol from? Last time I looked, saddam Hussein had banned liquor publically, have we lifted this ban?

the last thing we need is a bunch of soldiers, high strung and freaked out, de mora;lized, suicidal, distressed, ect, with guns, to have acess to alcohol there. #ing wonderful.

First off, that dimwit moniker seems to sum up your whole thought process on this one.

The tiger was in a CAGE, some idiot stuck his HAND in, and the tiger attacked his hand. So they shoot the tiger, who again, is CAGED. Look up cowardice on webster.com.

And try to save your sanctimoniousness for when you actually have a valid point, otherwise it comes across as a little pathetic.

All of us have done stupid things when drunk, probably very few have done anything cruel and murderous. Which is what these soldiers did.

To try and defend this kind of behavior is astounding. They shot a helpless tiger. Helpless because he was caged. Who cares what nationality they were or what profession they had.

If he had been my friend it would not have happened in the first place. Would have stopped him long before he able to stick his hand in a tiger cage. Although common sense should tell ya not to do that.

The soldier who put his hand into the tiger cage is obviously an idiot and he deserved to hurt his arm. The tiger didn't do # to deserve being shot by the other soldier. This tiger was captured by #ing humans and put in a cage where it will spend the rest of it's natural life. Oneday a drunken stupid human sticks "food" into its cage, the tiger attacks the "food" and as a result of that gets shot by another #ing human with a gun (one of the nice results of the great intelligence of the human being). And people say it is ok because humans are more worth than tigers. Pisses me off

I can't deal out death and jugement, but the way I see it the tiger was the last creature who deserved death.

That moron should never have been in the tiger cage. But further more, in shouldn't have been drunk WHILE in services. I just hope the tiger really hurted him and that he can never use this arm again.

Shooting it was stupid, but excuseable, becaus eit's just a human reflex. Can't really argue if the rare tiger would be worth more than a human life (or a soldier life), because doing so would make me un-human. I'd rather not go on "how I stand against/beside humanity". They could probably have saved the soldier easily, without KILLING the tiger, but only harming him. It's a tiger, not some demon from hell, for # sake.
