Gray Fox, current code name unknown.

One of his first steps was bureaucratic: to shift control of an undercover unit, known then as the Gray Fox (it has recently been given a new code name), from the Army to the Special Operations Command (socom), in Tampa. Gray Fox was formally assigned to socom in July, 2002, at the instigation of Rumsfeld’s office, which meant that the undercover unit would have a single commander for administration and operational deployment. Then, last fall, Rumsfeld’s ability to deploy the commandos expanded. According to a Pentagon consultant, an Execute Order on the Global War on Terrorism (referred to throughout the government as gwot) was issued at Rumsfeld’s direction. The order specifically authorized the military “to find and finish” terrorist targets, the consultant said.

I doubt it is the most secret unit in the world, there are probably a few that don't exist to us yet.

Well I`m not sure why someone dragged this old thread up again but thanks for everyones replys. Thanks to the sadly anonymous poster with the link to the page on the SSR that was very interesting.

In reply to comforter, I guess the point is I have no idea what I am addressing and am never likely to given how secret these things are. Oh and no idea who or what black water is.

Grey Fox is a unit that is simply used in the capture and rescue of key individuals. It is imparative to remain secretive about the unit, due to delicatness of certain jobs. They use the same equipment available to all other Special Forces, and are trained to the degree in combat that all our fine men and women serving in any area of the Armed Forces, However I can say that there are certain areas of the training not disclosed to other branches, simply because it would be useless in their field.

funny that people think that only de sas and americans are the best , the dutch special forces training is an exect copy that of sas and are also fighting along side sas and american special units ,the dutch marines train along side the brits they have the so called british/dutch landing forces and also dont forget that the dutch where the first to ask for help by the brits and americans during the beginning of afganistan also dutch KCT where in irak in the beginnig of the second iraqi invasion and where along side sas in the balkans.

# you!! The british sas are bad asses, I will admit, but they are cream puffs compared to the highly secret delta force. You hear a lot about british sas activities and missions but hear very little about delta force's. Because delta is more elite moron. The brits are a joke. Red cheeked pansies. Your little faggot prince william cant even stand it in Iraq so they had to airlift him out. Not to mention that we kicked your asses in the American Revolution. The history of our special forces can be traced back all the way to then. When we sent you guys crying to your mums back to Britian. So learn before you speak. Sas and royal marines can kiss my ass. Green Berets all the way!

Please. Give me a break. Anything that anybody kind find out about this unit via open source proves the ineffectiveness of such a unit.

It may be because my dear British friend, most of the mess in that part of the world was created by you blokes. India,Pakistan, the Arabian peninsula, that whole freaking part of the world that once was part of or under the control of the Union Jack.
Even Palestine was under Brit control after WW2. Or do you fellows conveniently forget your past failures?

I agree even though the S.A.S, S.B.S,Royal marine's,Para's are well better trained. Greyfox probebly concised's of some of these British soldiers. It was the S.A.S that showed the way on how to be a special ops unit but at the end of the day us Brits stick by are m8s eg; yanks.

It amuses me how arrogant the British are, ive seen on NUMEROUS posts them take any and all opportunity they can to try and elevate their status. This kind of pompousness makes me sick , and its uncalled for. If they are so great why dont they have better dental hygiene .......hehehe

You're all a pack of wallies. Whether something is secret or not secret it doesn't matter so long as the job gets done. US and British forces complement one another. Britain has the experience with covert operations because their intelligence is mostly accurate. America has the resources and manpower. Rather than indulge in pissing contests maybe you could give consideration to the absurd notion that staying a secret somehow enhances ones effectiveness. Sooner or later everyone steps into the spotlight.

Grey Fox is a US military unit used for snatch operations, deployed alongside the SAS during the recent Gulf War, accounted for at least a few of the 'playing cards' who were captured by US forces

Isn't the SAS the Australian SPECIAL forces? I could be wrong. Wow...American Elite and the Australians...

SAS is a British group that has been around since at least WWII. I'm pretty sure.

Mate, Facts are Facts. In other words if it's true, then it's inescapable - they are either (in comparison to other so called 'elite' military forces at least) not up to the job because A) the training regime is unsuitable or not up to scratch B) they are predominantly a bunch of gung-ho thickies, who shoot first, discern the facts later or C) A combination of A + B in varying proportions.

Personally, i think option C is appropriate.

How else does one account for so many friendly fire casualties when the US spec forces utilise some of (if not THE most) sophisticated weaponry and targeting, IFF and associated systems ever devised by humankind?

There is no other explanation...as i said the facts are the facts.

Whether or not the people concerned like it or not is irrelevant. Oh, i was in the british army years ago, if one of the US spec forces (UK sargent eqiv'nt) fancies cutting anyone a new smile in their necks, for pointing out the obvious, then they need to undergo a new/updated psych examination.

Psychopaths are fine if you only want someone to pull a trigger or push a button, but fall woefully short when you need someone to pull a trigger or push a button with some THOUGHT of responsibility behind it.

Stats speak for themselves, if it makes them sore, then perhaps they should endevour to improve themselves rather than spit sour grapes and insinuate threats to the public through you.

spikey.
