Not so long ago I seen a TV show that showcases unknown films. On this episode they had Hell House: A documentary film.

It was really disturbing that this sort of thing is happening. The Church tricks young people into thinking they are entering a haunted house. One they are in side the make a "reality show" of Girls bleeding to death "down there" from an abortion and a series of other horrifying things like suicide. After all the 'show' is done a man (priest? I can't remember) comes in and tells them if they want to be saved from hell they must come into the next room, the decision room.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This is blatant control of people through fear. Something that I am very much against.

This is a trailer of the movie.

that is insane. the same group of people who promote censorship, would put some on like this for kids. the one i went to was just as grotesque, but at least i had sense enough not to see it as reality.

This kind of foolishness really annoys me. Far too many Christians take on this elitist view. Sorry, folks - there are no 'Elects'. You aren't the arbiter of morals on this earth. The educated Christian SHOULD know that Christ mocked the 'holier than thou' factions in Judea. But of course, many will reply, "they were Jews and they are the murderers of Jesus. So of course they were wrong. We're Christians, and that makes all the difference in the world." Well, judge not lest ye be judged - how do you like them apples, Falwellites?

I love Halloween. It's one of my favorite SECULAR holidays. So, does this mean I'm damned? If it does, I will see my accusers in Hell, because you are likely going to be in the next brimstone and pitch hot tub.

I am the custodian of my soul. You should be the custodian of yours. These 'hell houses' breed such demons as homophobia, 'righteous' violence against the 'wicked' (Columbine or Guayana, anyone), and other forms of intolerence and unreasoning hatred. We don't have to like other people's life choices, behaviours, beliefs, or past-times. We really do have to tolerate them.

Thanks for letting me vent - have a lovely Halloween
(if you are going to a halloween party in the New London area, I will be the really scary zombie....)

I find it hard to believe they've gone this far. That is sickening. Just about the lowest thing I've seen in a long time.

I guess they think all is fair in love and war... And this is war.

Hahaha, oh God.
I just watched that trailer and the "Hell" clip, what a joke!
Glad we don't have these here in Australia.

Religion has always fed on fear and ignorance because if it actually taught its followers about love it would lose them.

Religions, ALL religions, are a form of spiritual slavery and they keep their spiritually decapitated servants in a constant state of fear, so they will be submissive.

It's sickening

Sorry, I have to disagree with you. As a Catholic, I find the beauty and grace of Christ's message. As a historian, I have studied a number of religions. I have visited mosques, synagogues, and numerous other places of worship. I have seen that many of them are far from 'spiritual slavery'. Rather, I have found a great deal of peace and freedom. As a Catholic, I find that my faith has been strengthed by studying, reflectin, evaluating the teachings of the Church. I have friends who are ministers, priests, imams, and rabbis; they too are very educated.

Fanatics, on the other hand, replace the intellectual understanding of the teachings of their faith with those shackles you mentioned. Fundamentalist Christians, Muslims, Jews, Pagans, Atheists, Humanists - all are so bound by their prejudices and ignorance that they have indeed forgotten love.

Please don't judge people by the actions of a minority. Many members of the KKK are white, southern, blue collar males. That makes all white, southern blue collar males evil? Of course not. By the same token, religous people are not all enslaved by the Big Brother of organized religion. I am not an automaton.

While I embrace everyone's right to their opinion, I really think that discussions are most satisfying when people refrain from irrational personal attacks and approach their perspective from a reasoned judgement. I learned this from the Jesuits.

Thanks for reading this -

Sorry if I offended you Shantyman, It was not my intent. I suppose I should have closed the post with the words, this is just my humble opinion. I assure you thats all it was.

Everyone must walk their own path and I believe that ones path must be respected, even if I rail against religion.

I am a Spiritual Anarchist and also a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship here in my hometown. Respect is a very large part of UU and i'd probably get booted if they thought I was violating it. There are none so intolerant as those that are preaching tolerance.

I'm sure you too will learn where i'm coming from once you've freed the chains on your mind and spirit and learned of the true glory of being a child of God....(cheap shot! Cheap shot!....I'm running away now....DON'T TELL MY MINISTER!!!!!)

Love and light my friend and may your path be as peaceful and wise as you appear to be.

Wupy -
Thanks for the kind words, and I hope I didn't sound to militant. I am a teacher who is adament on the importance of arguing from a strong educated opinion. This tends to induce me to chastising strangers in public places - good thing I am big, burly, and resemble the wrestler Mankind to a frightening degree...

I'm equally sure that you will come to the light when you adhere to the one, true faith! (joking!)

Actually, a number of my clerical friends breathed a sigh of relief when I decided not to enter the priesthood. My ambition was to be the 1st American Pope. My stated goals were as follows:

1 - reclaim the holy land.
2 - Restore the Papal States
3 - reinstate the Templars and Hospitalars
4 - suppress the Protestant heresies

Hmmm - if it did work that way, I would be the Antichrist and not G.W.....fancy that!

I am a Christian... I find this practice of scaring people into thinking about Christianity sick.

Let me say that having been a christian for about 20 years that these kind of places are usually ran by fly by night Christians, who follow Jesus when it is convenient or when it's "the thing" to do.

They do more damage then good for the cause of Christ. When the good feelings leave them and the faze is gone, they will go back to their old way of life.

It would be better had they never believed in the first place!

Wow, and I thought my ex-girlfriend had a fetish for the dark ages. I should introduce the two of you. Twin souls if ever they existed.

I hope your path leads to all you hope to find at its end, as i'm sure mine will. Along the way we can share of ourselves and help to enlighten each other about the journeys of our fellow travelors, whether we consider their journey to be right or wrong. We have but one true gift to give to this world, the gift of ourselves. Everything else will fall away.

It's a pleasure to have met you Shantyman, You seem to have much knowledge and wisdom to offer. I only hope I can reciprocate.

Love and light,

Wupy

LOL!
You gotta love it, this generation!
We'll sit and watch a hack and slash movie while eating popcorn, sit on the edge of our chairs while watching the evening news, waiting to see the spray of blood as the cop center-punches the bad guy on prime time, but the thoughts of a hauntred house with a message is moret han one can handle?

Mayhaps what disturbs you is the message and nothing more? Have you gotten all in a wad of emotions when you think of how the CFR has used the public education system to re-educate children to turn away from traditional morality and embrace amorality? That is as sneaky, and is done with everyone's tax dollars!

I haven't heard of such Halloween Houses as what is being mentioned here, and I am not in favor of any ambushes, no matter who is doing the ambush, but we seem to be straying from the tactic and really getting ill with the message.

Another little tidbit; Christ never got mad at anyone for educating others. You assume that because someone is letting sinners know the wages that the Christian is pious and pompous? What's that, I hear, the arrow of hypocricy ricocheting back at the archer?

yea its true

ive been to one of those haunted houses before. there isnt any ghosts in them or anything. its got stuff in them like fake aborted fetus's people commiting suicide, people getting drunk and murdering people...ya know real life scary stuff. and then at the end of it they handed me out this panphlet and asked me if i wanted to come into this room and pray with them and accept jesus. i told them i was already a christian. then they asked me what denomination i was....figures. the people that put them on in most of the areas that i have been to for haunted houses which is rockford IL where i live, and we sometimes go into chicago and crystal lake..every single one of them has been put together by the assemblies of God denomination...there was one that was evangelical. but all the others were assembly of God. they have a right to do it, but they mask it and i dont think you should have to BAIT people to realize the truth. it isnt a game. i agree with grey star on this one.

There is one of these in a town nearby us and it, too, was Assembly of God. Maybe that is the denomination that does this the most (or started it). We went through this one when my son was about 13. He wanted to go through and knew before he asked me to take him what it was all about. So we went. It was pretty much as everyone else here has described, but there wasn't any pamphlets or attempts to get us to pray or convert or anything like that. All in all, it was fairly benign and since the town it was in is not that big, everybody going to it knew upfront what they were going to...so there wasn't any deception involved or anything. I guess what I'm saying is in our particular instance, I don't see anything wrong with it because it was NOT misrepresented. Also, they had a lower age limit on the thing.

Now, if these houses are misrepresenting themselves as haunted houses, or not putting age requirements, that would be an entirely different issue I would think. Because I'd be a might bit p-o'd if I thought I was about to take my young kid through a haunted house and have some serious scary fun and end up having to explain what an abortion is or have to talk about suicide to say an 8 year old. Yeah, this mom would be p-o'd. A ghost is a heck of a lot less scary than watching some one simulate blowing their own brains out.

Wouldn't this be a better idea; why not make heaven houses showing people all the great things you get if you go to heaven? I guess it's because there's more descriptions of afterlife in hell than in heaven...

The one in rockford illinois where i live is called the house of horrors. and it is assembly of God denominationaly directed. This is the one that handed out pamphlets and had a prayer room where people were speaking in tongues. and THERE IS an age restriction. if you are under 16 you have to go with an adult.

there was this one scene in there where you have to crawl on your hands and knees over this clear walkway and inside of it were snakes and it was supposed to be the entryway into hell and once you got into the area where hell was they had people acting like they were demons and having a conversation about all the weak souls they wanted to posess. and the next room you went into was a kid using a ouija board and then he started shaking all of a sudden and became possessed and tried to kill the other people at the table that were doing the ouija board with him. thats the main thing i remember. im 20 now and it was like 3 years ago i went to one. when you look at the outside of the building you couldnt tell that it was any different from any other haunted house until you got inside. like i said ....they are baiting people...and last time i checked that isnt how spreading the good news was supposed to be done.

Kind Regards,
DigitalGrl
