It wasn't. For you to compare the UN to the US is woefully misinformed. One is an organization dedicated to trying to HELP people, one is a country dedicated to killing foreign people.

On this point:

1. I didn't make the comparison. It was a socialist writer. I agree with you that the comparison is rather unfair

BUT

2. Neither my opinion, nor yours, nor the writer's, necessarily reflects the motivation of the Iraqis who cause disruption to the occupation. I am certain that there are many amongst them who would view UN and US intevention as equally undesirable. I actually believe that is the main point the writer was trying to make, not necessarily about the mechanics of the UN resolutions.

As we won't meet the people who bombed the UN building, that will probably remain a moot point forever.

all drama aside (though it's true about the plan for World War III), im going to copy what i said earlier on a newer thread because I think it is highly relevant to this.

why was the UN building attacked?

yes, the UN itself, or rather the elitist elements running the show, would have a large gain in that it would keep itself away from involving itself with another third-world screw-over deal courtesy of the IMF.

however, the CPA, or more like the US and its allies, would also be gaining an equally large share due to the fact that it would be left largely unmonitored by the entire international community. what i mean as in unmonitored, i mean as in not cared for. this is kind of what they did with east timor back in the 70's, where the UN was like "you know what... you handle it. we dont want our hands bloodied more so with this atrocity"

obviously, Iraq would have the least to gain. their people, already lacking appropriately consolidated representation, would have to endure whatever the CPA and its drones would throw at them. be it fake terrorist attacks or punishment for oil pipelines being sabotaged.

and yes, they amount of explosive was a huuuuuuge giveaway. it's not so easy to smuggle that stuff around with military police sniffing around every corner. if anyone could have pulled this off it would have been either Mossad or an alphabet soup espionage operation.

bottom line. the whole thing reeks of US espionage involvement. all the usual suspects. even a top guy was "sacrificed" as is the usual highlight of ceremonial terrorism as seen in Baghdad. Iraq NEEDS the UN right now because it has to rebuild itself. anything else will destroy it for US compliance, as was part of the case for the invasion anyway. cant have saddam ressurecting babylon now can we?

Fry: "The infrastructure was neglected because Saddam decided to use the Oil for food money for just about anything BUT food. "

Really, how do you know this? Did you see it on TV? Did Wolf Blitzer tell you this?

"Do you have any idea how many people could have been killed in this past war if we were "dedicated to killing foreign people"? "

About 8000 Iraqi civilians have died. Are you saying they could have killed more? News flash: they still ARE.

"Oh, maybe, just maybe because it is the ONLY rescource the country has to survive in the future?"

Um, yeah. The reason the US didn't protect ANY OTHER GOVERNMENT MINISTRY BUILDING other than the Ministry of Oil is because that's the only viable one for Iraqis? What color is the sky in your world? They protected it because it's the single most important reason why they're there.

Jakomoto,

The WHOLE FRIGGIN WORLD approved of the first Gulf War. Thus, it was a UN action.

Second, Saddam Hussein killed far more Iraqis than did the US. FAR more. Saddam Hussein is not a really nice guy. While Ill agree we really shouldnt have gotten involved, im rather weary of people acting like Saddam was a legit, well liked and popular dictator who was doing Iraq alot of good. he has mispsent the oil for food, as just about any leader would, hence, the oil for food was another retard UN idea.

Perspective: While the US had really no good reasons in terms of national security and world interest to invade Iraq, does not mean Iraq was a fairy tale kingdom before we ever got there. Saddam was an asshole. Period. He did much to ruin the Iraqis before we got there.

Were just allowing the ruin to continue while we suck the country dry.

Needless to say, The UN cannot be compared to the US, because, the UN is an ineffective joke that couldnt do # if it tried. The US actually suceeded in its goals: get the oil. And of course, the UN solution: send in trucks of food to get hijacked and stolen, instead of teaching self sufficency and infrastructure building skills.

Skaldi: Gulf War I was because Hussein had invaded another sovereign country (Kuwait) to take over their oil, so it was sanctioned by the UN. This time it was the US invading another sovereign country (unprovoked) to take over their oil, and the UN said no.

And yes, Saddam is and was a bastard. But you know what, so are a lot of world leaders. Saddam was weakened and in decline. Their farthest reaching missile he had was those Al Samoud ones, and they only have a range of 300 miles. Not even close to getting to the US.

The biggest thing that has come out of this illegal war is that it was further inflamed Muslims, Arabs, and the rest of the world against the US. I'm sure there is a 1000% increase in terrorist recruiting because of it, I'm just surprised none of the Pentagon brainiacs figured that might be a result.

It's sad, and all the sadder because it was perpetrated by the US, which should know better.
