Ok so ive just got up from watching the Lve 8 concerts. WOW. the ending in Hyde Park (britain) was really moving with Paul Mcartney and practically everyone there singing. Really amazing.

If you add up all the new things that are just now coming into the final stages of development, or new technology that is reaching completion etc,

Exo skeletal legs for people that cannot walk,

artificial Limbs (that actually work near as good as normal limbs - and they can only get better of course,

the fairly new, undeveloped tech of retrieving video from ones mind (they did it on a cat so far),

hydrogen powered cars (honda brings out the first in 2006) that are 100% fuel efficient, and have no emissions albeit H20,

Magnetic motors for power generation from 0% input other than turning the thing on,

hopefully poverty will be a thing of the past, (bob geldoff is so kwel!) - they want it sorted by 2015 is what they said,

Holograms, Less disease, Mecha robots, Howverboards, Anti ageing drug (they say youd live to 1000!!!), interstellar space travel..............

Its all going to be so amazing!!!! anything else youde like to add about the 21st century being kickass???

Seems like I just read about someone taking delivery of the first hydrogen powered car.

Yeah, I think mother nature is going to kick our ass.

The amazing part is you cannot even imagine how great its going to be.

Look back 100 years....they didn't have television, could not even imagine robots or the internet, most people lived on farms and grew their own food. The industrial revolution was just beginning and the age of information wasn't even something they could conceive. Life itself was a chore that one must somehow get thru.

A hundred years later were kickin' ass and looking forward to the sunrise.

Imagine what life will be like one hundred years into the future. Oh wait, you can't imagine what life will be like one hundred years into the future, yo can't even imagine the changes that are to come.

I SOOOO plan on reincarnating.

Wupy

id rather walk than be in a hydrogen car that is unsafe.

in my opinion, id rather live a few hundred years ago minus the technology, than a few years from now in an abundance.

erm... except for some medical advances. thats good stuff.

people lived on farms and grew their own food.

wow i still do that.

100 yrs from now most people in the U.S. (if there is one) will, to one extent or the other, be cyborgs--willingly.

I don't think we will have interstellar travel by then (at least not manned interstellar travel), but I do think we'll have sent our first probes off to the nearest stars. And I definitely think we'll have found that life, in some form or another, is ubiquitous throughout the universe.

I also think we'll be harvesting asteroids & comets for their wealth of resources and that we'll have essentially solved our power needs. We may even have started terraforming Mars, but even if we haven't there will be plenty of humans in space.

It would be interesting to stick around and see what the human race looks like physically. I know we'll tinker with ourselves through genetic changes and through both organic & inorganic implants. How much we change ourselves to adapt to new environments and a changed Earth environment is anybody's guess.

We'll live longer and we'll be smarter, but will we be smart enough to survive? I think that's going to be a close call.

Whichever way things go it's going to be exciting.

I forget which science fiction writer said it, but what he said was that technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic. Can you imagine how a human of 100 years from now would appear to us, or to our ancestors?

The idea of people living longer may not neccesarily be the great thing that people seem to think. There is an assertion that there are already too many humans in the world, even with the current low life expectancy values that exist within many areas of the world.
Can you imagine the extra pressure we would create upon the already congested planet if EVERYONE was able to live until they were, say, 100!!!

Prediction of the future - I am fairly certain people will get bored of the internet in a couple of decades. So download the Paris Hilton video while you can.

But in all seriousness, most inventions/innovations have already been created. So from now on we will only see the rare brand new invention/innovation. With most inventions/innovations being updated over time.

Doesn't the Mayan calender give a specific date?? somewhere in December I believe.

Yet the bible states no one knows the day nor the hour. ohh
conspiracy!

Hey, Shadow88... I've never heard of this. Sounds amazing! Do you have any links related to this?

Agreed. In fact, I whole-heartedly agree. We have now extended the life of the being within the vehicle further than the vehicle was intended to tote them. So not only are we not thinking of the greater good of humanity (i.e. in extending the lives of people while we're also trying to use some since in population growth), but we're taxing the resources of all humanity on the greatly burdening healthcare issues that accompany trying to keep the human body going now that we've medically ceased the internal functions that use to put those bodies away at an earlier age.

Wow! Kudos to the medical profession - now a 75 year old man may not drop dead from a massive heart attack, but he gets to slip into a nightmare of existence as his brain turns to mush and his joints decay to the point he has no mobility. And at the same time - gawd forbid we use stem cell research to keep people's minds from going south on them.

bah - Knowledge puffeth up.

i actually had a thread relating to the whole living to be 1 000 thing and i agree that it woudnt at this point in time it is not something that will be helpfull for human kind.

www.abovetopsecret.com...'

also the date the mayans predected was 2012 december 21st i believe although im not sure but i dont think they predected the end of the world necisarily although that is one theory, ive also heard things like the entry in the 4th dimension, when spirituality and scince started connecting more and other things, i think one of the other theory's i heard was some kind of another great invention or industiral revolution or something

Hope there will be some way to trick the mind (body)into thinking you exercised so you will still have muscles...I am too much into sitting here at this computer lately....muscles turning into fat as I type

Ok (takes deep breath). serves me right for not checkin the thread sooner sigh so here goes.

good point mrwupy!

Dulcimer its not unsafe....hydrogen cars is just water, separted by electrolysis into O2 and H, the H is burned (and as we know, fire burns oxygen!) so the only fumes it releases into the environment again is the same water you put in at the first place.

astronomer68 o yea! there is the theory that we will all adopt the increasing advanced cyborg implants, better vision, hearing, faster running, internet wired into our heads..who knows!

trust_no_one lets just hope that the next 100 years we progress as much as we did in the previous 100. remember we have gone from swashbuckling and public guillotine decapitation, to this......so hopefully there will be as much change in the next century

KhieuSamphan if this happens we'll most likely branch off into the stars......as it gets commercially available.

NWguy83 what! someone is documented saying that before the industrial revolution....and the discovery of most of the periodic table etc!!! so i dont think so

DonkeyPlopPlop YEA I NO!!! amazing!!! they extracted like 20 or so still images (which had obviously been translated from brain electrical signals into coherent pictures by a complex program) from the neural cortex (the eye nerve thingys) of a cat!!!
there is a link in SciTech....

Valhall When most people hear about anti ageing, for some reason they think that all it does is keep the person alive...while they continue to grow old (LOL and when i say "you can live to 200" they think theyd look like a corpse. But this is wrong. the anti ageing drug resets the "body clock" gene, causing the body to start reproducing cells, throughout your body, of a child, young man, dpending on how much of the drug is put into your system. SO your wrinkles etc would disappear, your organs would be like new, and you would physically be young young again, inside and out. BUT you wouldnt turn into a baby or anything, just things that constantly produce new cells all the time would just produce baby cells, your body structure would remain the same.

lifeadventurer Yea i see your point of COURSE we have no idea what is going to happen. but im just talking about tech we know is in production and speculation about where we think we are going

trust_no_one indeed your right. not just yet......not until we are at a stage where we have extra terrestial habituation and or have some kind of stable birth........thing

that would be kwel. you would first have to know what causes muscle growth, then reproduce that effect artificially!!! see! simple.....

*INHALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

the technologies being developed that allow people to live longer often dont do so by curing diseases. rather, they cure aging. bionic limbs will allow a 70 year old to be as good physically and even better than a 20 year old. the 70 year old will no longer be a useless member of society but rather an average, or extremely productive one; just another regular person. stem cell technology and computer-brain enhancements will prevent their brains from going to mush.

about the planet not being able to sustain that many people, think again. the only reason it has trouble sustaining people right now is because of our energy and irrigiation technologies. as other technologies develop, so will these. eventually, they will be able to support tens of billions of people. i was reading an article today that describes techniques of cold-water farming (chilling hte roots of plants that incrases their growth) that decreases the time needed to grow crops by 3x = 3x more crops. that combined with genetical engineering = 100x + what we already have. and thats just with the technologies that we already have but arent using everywhere. both are already very cheap and economically viable but cold-water farming is just starting to be used. for the same token, cold-water farming is made possible by energy gathering techniques being tested in sampan island by japan (a us territory, the island) that exploits the differences in tempuratures between surface water and 20,000 foot deep water. that alone used across hte world will supply hydrogen for cars and 100x our energy needs globabally.

technology can literally solve all of our problems.

yes it will

being 17, i am happy to see technology improve every year...

video games, computers, and everything else is on my "watch list"...

i want it all

also, kids now, will have a GREAT fututre with technology...
