Hmm, thats seems impossible, as the FBI HRT was plannes in ´82 and activated in ´83 ( link to official FBI site )

Then again, maybe the FBI has a regular SWAT team apart from the hostage rescue team, I couldnt find any info about that, so the patch might refer to that.

Swat snipers or FBI snipers? Nope I would pick the SS, Secret Service snipers I have seen some training videos and seen what they are capable of.

of course, SWAT team snipers in general, are traned to fire accurately in a lot shorter ranges then millitary sharpshooters which can range from 700 to 1000's of meters.

The is a book called " Cold Zero " by a former FBI HRT operator who specialised in sniping. He was at Waco and Ruby Ridge. Whilst there isn't much action in the book, it gives a great insight into the training of the HRT. They could easily be compared to GSG9.

I forget in what year they were formed, but GSG-9 are the German
'Polizei's' special forces. Initially they were set up in response to the kidnapping and murder of Israelis at the Munich Olympics. As 'special forces' they train with the Bundeswher and with the SAS - who helped set up the training programme and trained their first instructors. Most GSG-9 operatives are ex-sf and they travel all over the world on exchange programmes attending as many courses as they are allowed to do.

Much the same with our elite SAS and SBS, much the same as the SASR, FBI HRT, Delta, Seals, NZSAS, OmaniSAS, etc.

I watched this competition last night on a TV show and its a joke to call it a world SWAT event. There were dozens of SWAT teams from US cites like LA, Dallas, San Antonio and the only ones there that were foreign were the Germans, and they are more military then Law Enforcement.

can someone of the mods ban this areshole for his lies???

He does disinformation!

GSG-9 is a unit of the Bundespolizei, the federal police, so in what way are they military?

KSK, Fernspäher, Kampfschwimmer are some specialised elite-Paratrooper units are military special forces in germany, Grenzschutzgruppe "9" is the federal unit that equals Sonder Einsatz Kommando´s (swat) on state level

Wow a little testy aren't we? What's the matter don't like my views on things so your trying to ban me for my statement on that post?
If the moderators should do anything they should ban personal attack like yours.

When I was reading about the GSG9 I found out that they have 2 other units one maritime and one airborne this is why I though they were more military then law enforcement.

Dude, this isnt the politics discussion forum.... when he says something thats wrong (especially when he believes he is perfectly right) then simply correct him. I rather think you might get yourself a warning for that statement.

-------------------

Well, GSG-9 is kind of special even within the special forces. They are NOT more military than Law Enforcement as you said, Westpoint. They follow police procedures, they follow police laws and are entirely independent of the miitary command (unlike lets say italian special forces, which are AFAIK a part of the Carabinieri, which is sort of the military police).

The discrimination between police and miitary forces is far more severe than in many other countries. The german military for example is under normal circumstances not allowed to do ANYTHING in a sense of force projection within Germany. A National Guard like in the USA does not exist. The largest scale military mission in the FRG was during the flood catastrophe, and then only as helpers without weapon.

The GSG-9 now trains all these "uncommon" mission profiles so that Germany has a possibility to counter any in-land threats without having to resort to specialized military units. Although their training involves military units and tactics, and though they are on par with the SAS part for hostage rescueing, they will always be a police unit only.

The national guard is there more for disaster relief and as protection in case of emergency. If a plane enter our airspace and its unauthorized the National Guard its that intercepts it. Also the national guard is there just incase the Government decides to implement Marshall Law they need someone to enforce it.

Thats exactly what I meant, in Germany these tasks are fulfilled by the "civilian" forces alone. And a state Martial Law is a totally different case, not applicable under normal circumstances.

Britains army is probably so short handed even with the TA they probably count use martial law!
doesnt mean i dont love our armed forces! i just believe our leaders are short cutting our forces a bit to close for comfort.

but thats very offtopic of me.....wouldnt it be easy enough just to get german's army jsut to do martial law, im sure its big enough, GSG9 seems a bit more elite.
