Greetings and GOD bless all here
For tthe past few days (mornings at 8 am) I've seen something in front of the sun...it appears at the 2 o'clock position on the face of the sun...can't really tell if it is a sunspot or an object in front of the sun...but SOMETHING IS THERE!!!
Can anyone confirm this...any ideas what this might be?
Will keep trying to get pics...having operator inefficiency with my magpix 350...
Dave

How are you viewing this? With a camera or scope?

To anyone else who plans on following up on this statement - DO NOT look directly at the Sun.
You will cause irrepairable damage to your eyes.

Here are a few conjectures on the positioning of planets this month.

www.bbc.co.uk...

It's quite possible that one of these could be responsible.
My money is on Jupiter.

I believe that would be Mercury. It's in about the right position and has had a recent transit:

It's planet X.

NASA changed a pic of the SOHO the other day so show something from the archives than to show what's really there. There is a dust cloud and a planet.....and a couple of moons.

Funny how you can't see much unless you are looking at it early in the morning at sunrise or near sunset, because of glare it would be easy to miss, besides everyone knows better than to look at the sun so they just don't.that is probably why no one else has noticed the fact that we are all about to get a cosmic wakeup call,I need to get up earlier to look at this,it is something that I have known about for some time,it is just running a bit later than previously predicted.I sincerely do hope that nothing is there, but if there is things is gunner change really soon here.

some friends went to spain last week, they claim to have seen three ufo's
, the story is much the same like one posted on the forum, first they thought seeing e shooting star, and then it changed directions abruptly up, left, right making them sure it had to be ufos, they we're a little skeptic, but seeing that made them quite convinced

but to stay on topic, one took a few foto's of the sun, look how they turned out to be:

I'm telling you, they aren't photoshopped, taken with a digital camera. I'll post the rest of the pics later, in some there is almost nothing to see, others there is.

Could this be because of the camera? The dot isn't centered in the pic, I don't know, don't know alot about that..

edit/ well, in these pics the dot's are quite centered, but in the rest it isn't, will get them online soon

I may be wrong but wouldnt the little purple dot on the sun make a small shadow on the water. The reflection of the sun on the water does not show any spot where the purple dot would be.

I think it's reasonable to be concerned. SOHO went down for some reason, Hubble failing, Nasa not saying a darn thing. Brushing this aside could be disastrous, but I guess it will be anyway.

Have you ever played with a magnifying glass? Burning leaves, ants, whatever?

Well, a camera lense works the same way. When you take a picture of the sun, the lense acts as a magnifying glass focusing the suns rays on the film. This can cook the film and produce all sorts of strange effects.

That's what happened here. If it were an object in front of the sun, it would either be washed out completely by the light of the sun, or it would appear completely black.

that's a logical explanation you have there mycroft, didn't think about it. May explain why he didn't notice the spot. I saw the pic and linked it immediatly to leftydaves post.....brainzzz....you can't trust them......anymore...?

I guess the pics are useless..

~My bet would be on jupiter or mercury because i live on the western seacoast (california) and i see this planet out every night. sometimes RIGHT next to the moon. but other then that, i doubt it's this planet x or an alien mothership for that.
