By whose calendar? You have to remember that the Hebrew calender was based on a 360 day year, so that won't work out correctly for them and the Bible (Hence the 666) was written mostly in Hebrew. I don't know if their prophets planned on using the Roman calendar as a measure.

June 6, 2006 will be a very special day to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of D-Day. Whether that's correlated to another event yet to come, we'll soon see!

Well, if time was the mark of the beast, then even christ had it, and god himself is the one behind the evil. Think about it, the mark is to be a new thing, not something that has existed since people first used it as a means to measure.

A date that would be = '666', applying long-established practices of various schools of numerology (including chaldean numerology and gematria, which both are related to all things Hebrew), then June 6, 2006 is disqualified--it is '668'

As some previous posters declared, any temporally significant '666' omen would have to be linked to June 6, 2004.

As far as the book of Revelation and the 'number of the beast,' -- that '666' means 'religion.' The number 6, in the bible, signifies several things consistently:
man and his mortal nature (hence 'death')
redemption
and, falling between 5 (grace) and 7 (divine perfection) it is the symbolic representation of always being 'a day late and a dollar short' if you think about the OT system of continually offering sacrifices for 'sin'--the same which never even hardly got a person to the 'break even' point, much less actually ahead for a minute or two to take a breather....
It represents the idea of trying to do something in an area in which we are powerless (overcoming death) and is one more than grace (which is the gift given for the purpose of overcoming death) and the 'one' represents our religious efforts (as the human race) in trying to somehow please God. And no matter what we do, we cannot earn, buy, or otherwise obtain any power over death (which is the dominion of the material world.)

And so, '666' represents man's body, soul, and spirit--all unavoidably heading down the wrong road (which is religion--religion serves man, not God).

666 does not relate to a date. The account would have said days, times or years if it was a date. The number 6 alone means error. Two more added mean a great deal of error. Remember the number 7 means perfection from God's standpoint. 6 falls short of 7. There's more meaning to this than you know. The 6 represents human governments. The three 6's mean the last and final error to mankind's governance. The world is finally uniting as one and agencies seem to be forming under our noses to make this system work on a World Wide scale.

But do you realize that you are assigning the meaning of '6' according to what you feel is signified by other symbology, rather than from an accumulation of various instances? There is no number (which are actually vibrational energies, not devices to account with) that is of man's origin instead of God's. Man cannot create anything originally--he can only create from that which God has already provided. Numbers are essential and unchangeable--therefore their origin is God and unalterable by man. If they were alterable, there would be no such the thing as a correct answer to a mathematical equation--because we would have long ago changed things around in order to make things fit together according to our limited understanding. Numbers can't be manipulated like that.

It's not actually 'a man's number' as in a number made by man, but rather, 'the number of his name' -- the 'beast's' name. So it is a symbolic represention of identification.

Revelation 13:17

The very next verse says that number is 'the number of (a) man.' I put 'a' in parentheses because it is not a consistent translation--this very same word in the Greek, anthropos, is most often just translated 'man' or 'men' without any article whatsoever. Then, in certain places it includes an article such as 'a' or 'that', etc. I'm not sure why--but it definitely changes the import of the sentence if translated in a manner consistent to the majority of instances found in the NT:

'for it is the number of man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.'

And 'his number' is not 'man's' number but the 'beast's' number. The number of the beast, the number of the beast's name, is the number of man.

A 'beast', in biblical symbology, is always a 'living creature'--consistently throughout the OT and even though Revelation is given in the Greek, it is a prophesy in the same style as the Hebraic prophesies of the OT. A 'beast' is never something manufactured by men, only by God, because only God can give the spirit of life. Beasts are alive, in some form another, whether it be spiritual or material.

Men are beasts, just as cattle are beasts:

These powers created themselves and were completely independent from God, where they wanted nothing to do with his laws and regulations.

Governments cannot create themselves--unless a Theocracy, all government is created by men. God does appoint whomever He wills, however, over men's created governments--and whether they realize it or not, they are doing God's will. Nebuchadnezzar found this out for himself:

At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
