Unbalanced:

Those seismos are NOT excitable... they are absolutely nuts.

This is NOT good news... There are a few theories in geology circles about massive megaplumes of magma being connected across continental distances through convection cells in the mantel...

It would take a while to explain some of these, but if there is a direct correlation between the quakes in Japan (and there were a few others in the Pacific region, which makes me think this is not localized but an Asian plate related action) and Yellowstone, well, I dont want to see any further stress put on Yellowstone right now....

The Hopi Prophecy story said that signs of the third-world shaking would be given when:

1. Trees will die. (Acid rain has taken a heavy toll on trees in some areas, but this could also refer to the demise of the rainforest).

2. Man will build a house in the sky. (Space station Mir, or the planned international space station to be built).

3. Cold places will become hot. Hot places will become cold. (Erractic weather patterns and global warming).

4. Lands will sink into the ocean and lands will rise out of the sea.

5. There will be an appearance of the Blue Star Kachina (this is The Eye of God- the explosive phase of the Milky Way).

Later this summer, researchers from U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, and NASA labs will join local ecologists and land managers for a sweeping project in Yellowstone and southwest Montana that will result in unique, high-quality maps of the regions terrain.

From Energy Waves article :

A unique feature of this project is that it will fuse together several different types of remote sensing data, including radar and hyperspectral imagery. Fusion of these different data types will allow normally hidden features to be highlighted.

#!! I think they may be talking about Project Brigheye!

Brighteye uses a variable wavelength laser for active imagery of ground targets. In this capacity, the laser can be tuned to penetrate all kinds of atmospheric problems, like clouds, fog, rain, dust, ect. Because it is active in nature (IE, its bouncing a laser off of the ground) it also has the ability to build up a 3D model, similar to a phased array radar. Accuracy would be in the millimeter range...

Now, Brighteye has remained classified for many years, but they are considering opening it up for scientific access, specifically for use at Yellowstone??? Something doesnt smell right here...

The ONLY reason I can see the NRO being willing to allow civilian access to Brighteye would be because they have reason to believe something big is about to happen there, and concessions are being made on an emergency basis.

Dont mistake, I think something like Brighteye would be a HUGE boon for earth remote imagery... but it is still light years beyond what is commercially available... The fact tht the NRO is willingly allowing scientists to use it specifially for Yellowtone makes me ask questions...

And I really dont like the answers...

I would agree, at least the gov is starting to take it seriuosly enough to take such drastic steps. However, that just reaffirms that this is turning into a very bad situation on all counts.

I would seriously doubt that they will publicly release much if any of the data on this venture. There will likely be some released within the scientific community (and I will try to find it) but that is likely to be "spoofed" so as to hide some of Brighteyes capabilities.

I seriously doubt that much if any usable data will be made available to the general public. Keep in mind, NASA has already said that they would NOT tell the public in the event of a catastrophic impact were coming... what makes you think that the USGS would be much if any better?

As far as "defusing the bomb".... Well, theres not a hell of a lot you can do about a supercaldera, other than simply not be there when it goes off...

If any actions were feasible or possible, it would be organizing mass evacuations. Considering the potential reach of this caldera, we would need to be working on that as we speak.

Nothing to see here. I'm noting this here for later use.

The lake data was pulled today and there is no current feed. The only archived dates are 10/1-10/4.

It has been mentioned a few times, but I would like to stress another thing about INEEL. As the crow flies, INEEL is roughly 120 mile from Yellowstone. This means, if something were to go down at yellowstone, even in a non catastrophic sense, it is still close enough for major problems at INEEL.

Now, considering the work done at INEEL, this could have as bad an effect on the populace as yellowstone itself, especially when you consider that weather runs west to east in the US, and stuff from this plant could get swept into the weather patterns.

Here are some links for INEEL. Snakeriveralliance is a great wealth of "somwhat unbiased" information.

Falcon brought the current high end seismic activity to my attention (thanks!) and I thought I would take a look at Yellowstone to see what it was doing.

There is a good deal of agitation across the board today, but the highest is at Pitchstone Plateau. not sure what other effects it will have long term as the activity seems to be continuing worldwide, but can just keep an eye on it....

I also noticed today's activity. Looks like a micro near Madison that is most likely a tele from Japan. It didn't show on the USGS finger list..

There was a lot of rumbling in Kamatchaka today, no word on an explosion.

Also, the Italian government announced a program to pay residents to move away from Mt. Vesuvius..

And then there's Alaska. I noticed this today...

ALASKA VOLCANOES

Seismic activity is monitored in real time at 24 volcanoes in Alaska.
Satellite images of all Alaskan volcanoes are analyzed daily for evidence of ash plumes and elevated surface temperatures. Some volcanoes may currently display anomalous behavior but are not considered to be at a dangerous level of unrest.

I also know that several volcanoes in Costa Rica have been active in the last week.

Overall...seems like something is up. Anyone take a look at the HAARP mags today? Whatssup with Anchorage?

I wasn't sure if this is worthy of the research thread and in fact I don't think it is. However, I'll use this thread to bring it to your alls attention. Last week, kukla listed an article concerning a UFO sighting in Yellowstone and I commented on John Keel's theory that in some researched cases, this sort of mysterious activity increases as an impending disaster grows closer. I read c2c am's sight this morning and found this. Now, whether one does or does not put faith in the idea that anyone can look into the future, we may be able to at least discuss the possibility that this potential energy build-up can be perceived by the most sensitive. With that, here's the quote and a link.

"Psychic Sylvia Browne returned to C2C to offer predictions and share tales from "the other side."

Among her forecasts are the death of Saddam Hussein by the end of this year, a Democratic president elected in 2004, and the possible eruption of the volcano at Yellowstone within the next 3-4 months. "I think the whole thing is gonna blow," she said. "

Hey, great post there. Thanks for sharing that...I think. I dare say that the eruption of this supercaldera alone will be devestating and a major event in itself but we must also consider an energy release this big will also trigger other geologic hazards in the US such a dormant volcanos and the ever present NMSZ in the Mississippi River Valley. I don't even wanna get going on San Andreas and California in general. Good thing you all got the last action hero as gov.

Holy Begeebus.

ONly 3/10th's away from the surface?

That's crazy. That means that when it finally gets to the surface...or there isn't enough weight of dirt on top of it, that it will simply push through and explode? and all the gas, fire, heat, pressure thats down there will blow at that spot and yellowstopne will just go KA-BOOOOOM!!!???

Is taht right?

That's a nice find.

A couple of things. There isn't anything new in there except for the reports of more dead fish and animals migrating out. Now if that's the case then we should be alarmed. When I was there, the bison were as tranquil as can be and I didn't see any dead fish.

Secondly, I've been watching the graphs like a hawk. We haven't had anything over a 3.0 in two months. If there's an imminent explosion, there would be signs. I think we would at least see a week of precursor events including 4.0 and 5.0's. Just hasn't been happening.

I am concerned that YVO isn't going to restore the Lake feed. It's been out for a month and the last message said it probably won't be coming back.

All it will take is for a fissure to open up in the lake and allow the water to enter the magma chamber. The resulting expansion of steam will crack that baby wide open.

The chemtrailtrackingusa message board has one poster named weatherman 457 who says the goverment is using chemtrails to cause the weather currents to flow in a clockwise direction thereby bringing in dry air into the California fire when instead they should be causing a counter clockwise flow to bring in cool moist air to help fight the fire.

I wonder if they are using the California fire as a "what if" practice run for Yellowstone. If you see the news today they say the Pentagon is now involved in the fire fighting. Maybe they have been all along.

THE BUG-OUT BAG by Janissary Joe

Many people talk about 'bug-out bags', but what are
they, really? Basically, a bug-out bag in what you
need to grab'n'go, wherever and whenever you need to.
You may need it at work, in your car or in your home.

Bug-out bags('BB') are always highly personalized;
there is no "magic formula", as each individuals'
needs and environment is different from everyone
else's. There are, however, some common concerns.

Most people organize a BB to last for 72hrs; some
prefer it to be a week or more. Try to keep it to
72hrs, for reasons I'll discuss below.

The most important thing to remember about BB's is
their inherently _temporary_ nature: they MUST NOT be
your "whole plan". A BB is intended to get you from
your current(less-than-ideal) situation to your main
hide/retreat -- it is not intended to get you all the
way through crisis 'X'. Remember that.

I'll describe my own BB to give you an example of
where to start. In a military "ALICE" pack in my car
trunk, I keep:

*One (1) milspec(M17A1) 'gas mask', with an extra set
of filters.

*Four (4) military rain poncho's, and one (1) poncho
liner (one poncho to wear, one to use a tent, one as a
ground sheet, and one -- with the liner -- to use as a
field-expedient sleeping bag, if necessary. In winter,
I add a milspec sleeping bag.)

*Four (4) military 1qt canteens, clipped to the
outside of the pack. Each one has a milspec cover and
a canteen cup.

*A first aid kit. This is a standard, book-sized box
that I bought at WalMart; however, I add a couple of
things: extra 2"x2" Band-Aids, 2x ACE-wraps, a pair of
medical(garden) shears/scissors, a 10oz bottle of
iodine, and two 20oz bottles, one of 3% Hydrogen
Peroxide(see Note 1), and one of unscented CloroxT
bleach(for purifying water -- 16 drops to the gallon,
4 drops to the canteen; see Note 2). A 500-tablet jar
of Aspirin, and a 500-tablet jar of Ibuprofin.
Finally, two (2) military uniform web belts, for tying
tourniquets -- NOTE: NEVER ATTEMPT TO TIE A TOURNIQUET
UNLESS YOU ARE THOROUGHLY VERSED IN HOW, WHEN AND WHY
TO DO SO!(See Note 3)

*Two (2) extra pairs of socks, two (2) sets of
underwear and one (1) washcloth/facecloth, each
double-sealed in Ziplock bags.

*A 2in-wide leather belt.%

*One (1) pair of blue jeans.%

*One (1) black, long sleeved shirt, made of 'shamie'
cloth.%

*One (1) military field jacket, black, with liner.%

*One (1) black knit cap.%

*One (1) green military sweater%

*One (1) pair of combat boots.%

(% -- You never know what you'll be wearing when it
all goes downhill, and some things need to be worn on
the belt in order to be gotten to, and you never can
be sure what the weather will do.)

*Four (4) rolls of toilet paper, individually wrapped
in celephane.

*A 'Stanley' claw-hammer.

*A Leatherman Multi-Tool.#

*A Swiss Army Champion pocket knife(this is the
humongous one).#

*A 4in 'Buck' folding knife.#

(# -- all sealed in a single Ziplock bag.)

*A Gerber MkII. Mostly useless....but psychologically
comforting.

*A military 'E-Tool' -- basically, a small folding
shovel.

*An old military mess kit, with a knife-fork-spoon.

*A magnesium fire starter. This takes practice to use
correctly.

*A ZippoT lighter and a can of fluid, both
double-sealed in a Ziplock bag.

*Three (3) standard road flares, for additional
firestarting.

*Two (2) containers of Hexamine heating tabs. These
are small tablets you can buy in any camping or
sporting goods section.

*A .45 cal Colt 'Government' M1991, with four (4)
magazines, and a 50rnd box of .45 Hydra-Shock, plus
holster. Strictly a personal preference.

*A jar of peanut butter.

*A thoroughly-washed out former PB jar, filled with a
generic 'trail mix'.

*Another thoroughly-washed out former PB jar, filled
with dry white rice.

*A small jar of boullion cubes, and a box or two of
common broth-base packets.

*Several packets of white sugar, as well as salt
packets, from McDonalds and Burger King.

*A jar of instant coffee(which I detest; it is,
however, necessary).

*One (1) box each of BigelowT Earl Gray and Green
Teas.

*A jar of Centrum "One-A-Day" multi-vitamins.

This kit will sustain me, without any refills
whatsoever, for 3-4 days, probably longer if I avoid
shooting all the time, and can control my water
intake.

Although the above seems like a lot of equipment, it
is actually very compact, and easily carried by one
adult in reasonable physical condition.

Again: this is NOT my primary plan. It is designed
solely to give me the equipment I need to get out of
my city on foot, if necessary. Extraction by 'Leather
Personnel Carrier' is what you MUST plan for, if you
want to keep the weights down to a reasonable level.

The stockpile maintained at your primary retreat is
for another article, but the above should help you get
by in the short term.

The above kit can be resized downward for children,
assuming you have to evade with them as well. If you
own a dog or two, invest in muzzles and 'doggie packs'
for them; you'll need the muzzles to keep them
reasonably quiet, to keep from giving away your
position. I don't care how well-trained you think your
dogs are, don't take the chance on them barking when
they are frightened by a totally unfamiliar
environment.

Also, strongly consider buying a mountian bike; they
will carry up to 300 lbs of gear for extended periods
of time, and they can run at up to 12 mph for similar
periods, all while requiriing no fuel.

My last point is this: IF YOU ARE EVADING,
-E-V-A-D-E-! dammit! Do not stand and fight it out
unless you have absolutely no choice! If things have
gone so far downhill that you have to actually
activate your BB, you are likely alone and running.
Focus on the mission at hand: Escape and Evasion.
These equal L-I-F-E.

Janissary Joe

Note 1: 3% Hydrogen Peroxide is not only a topical
antiseptic, but it can also be taken both aurally(in
the ear canal) an orally(by mouth, in VERY tiny
amounts).

Use a capful, no more, in each ear in succession;
leave it in for approximately 5 minutes, then drain.

Taken orally, use about 4 drops per 10oz of water;
expect a slightly upset stomach when you use this the
first few times.

Note 2: CloroxT unscented bleach is approximately
%5.25 Hydrogen-Chloride. 16 drops per gallon will kill
any latent bacteria in the water. You will still have
to strain it, however.

Note 3: NEVER attempt to self-medicate or medicate
anyone else unless you are _absolutely_ sure that you
know what you are doing! Neither myself nor the
site-host assume ANY responsiblity if you screw up
yourself or someone else.

Janissary Joe

END

Dear All,

I goofed. In the BB article, when I talked about
Clorox in Note 1, it should read
"Sodium-Hypochloride", not "hydrogen Chloride".

Sorry.
