www.aljazeera.com...

Everytime the U.S. is charged with committing such horrible acts as rape, torture or other kinds of severe human rights violations, U.S. and Pentagon officials are quick to point out that these were only some isolated incidents involving a few disturbing elements of its military personnel. What is interesting is that when the regime of the late Shah of Iran came under U.S. scrutiny starting a few years prior to the Iranian revolution, the Shah would also resort to the same kind of excuses, stating that the torture committed by Iran's secret service SAVAK was about a few isolated incidents involving some psychotic SAVAK agents. But just as the U.S. refused to buy any such excuses and explanations, the world should also today not buy the excuses and explanations of the U.S. in regards to the torture, rape and abuse of Iraqi detainees.

It is becoming increasingly evident that the U.S. is trying to hide a lot of things of what has been going on in Iraq from the rest of the world. Not only the abuse of Iraqi detainees but also the number of Iraqi civilians getting killed by U.S. fire.

For those here who so ignorantly use the beheading incidents by the Iraqi insurgents to discredit Islam and Muslims, I would like to say that if I were an Iraqi woman whose country had been devastated, invaded and occupied by American troops, I would much rather have my head cut off than to be raped and abused by the foreigners who devastated my country.

This is very distressing, how can people trust the our troops when acts like this are committed is just very, very distressing.

Perhaps this one of the reason our troops are so targeted in Iraq.

This doesn't really surprise me too much. In fact, I wouldn't be surprise to hear that this has happened in most, if not every foreign war we've been in. We're just not as good at hiding things as we used to be. I'm not saying it has happened, and I'm not condoning it in any way. But there's always some idiot out there who gives the rest of the group a bad name. Also, we've gotten more and more to where we actually like to hear this kind of stuff. Not that we overtly look forward to it, but when bad stuff like this happens we're glued to the set. I mean, look at the Clinton/Lewinski scandal vs. the Kennedy/Monroe thing. Kennedy's affair wasn't at all the big deal as Clinton's. Of course, that may be just because most of the people understood it with Kennedy & Marylin and were shocked that our head-honcho couldn't find someone better than Monica... But we like scandals a lot more now days, and the media realizes it and plays it up every chance they get.

Of course, this is only an opinion...

So we're a buncha murderers and rapists huh?

America freed Iraq from a bunch of murderers and rapists and you have the nerve to call us those names? You quote from Al Jazeera and expect us to beleave you??

What a sick world we live in....whatever, Im happy to put you in your place.

The problem with Islam is people like you will never accept responsibility for their fellow Muslims crimes, instead you spread LIES about Americans to inflame other weak-minded folk who don't know any better.

Saddam and his sons committed rapes, murders, wars and atrocitys in the MILLIONS, yet you would never dream of attacking them...cause their Muslim also right? If a fellow Muslim commits these crimes.....thats fine right? Not worthy of your time.

Your Islamic religion is Evil in the purest form, its still stuck in the 12th century and we Christian Americans are gonna drag Islam into the 21st century so Islam can have a future and perhaps more reasonable Muslims than you can start speaking out and confronting the Hypocrisy that I see in your ramblings.

LA_Maximus,

Well the US didn't refute that it was rapes of women, and also we are a civilized nation.

Also addressing the that our nation is not better that the savages that rape Iraq before us is not bashing US but bring up the fact that we can not be pushing moral values and believe on other nations when we as a nation have our own problems also.

hiding the facts is the worst thing to do, that makes us deceiving and liars.

That is called hypocrisy.

I think it's safe to say that torture at the hands of US Troops in Iraq is *not* limited to a few bad seeds.

However, i'm sure the usual suspects will try to spin this as a needed measure to win the war on terrorism and that it's ok for US Troops to do this because the terrorists wouldn't treat captured US Troops any differently. I'm sure the BushCo cheerleaders would feel quite differently if it had been their mothers and wives and sisters who had been treated this way.

*waits for the spin*

Everyone knows HOw i feel about this "war"
I was very disgusted by certain acts the troops said to be engaged in and shocked.
But for some reason I have a little difficulty beleiving this one. Sure, there may be some incidences and we certainly have some thugs over there perpetrating "some" of these crimes while pretending to be at war.
I do, however, refuse to beleive that the majority engage in such acts.
We may have some bad apples like every other country. But i dont buy into the fact that it happens all the time. BS.
They have hookers too, you know. Thats what they are for. Dont think for a minute that they arent available. They're all over the world, after all its the worlds oldest profession.

Lets not make them all out to be monsters. ( A liberal is telling you this)

Sure seems to be the case.

Don't kid yourself - Saddam's torture chambers and rape rooms never went away - they simply went under new management.

So it's Islam's fault that US Troops raped these women?

if you can locate this story on a news site other than al jazeera, it might be believable.

as it stands, the many pregnant women will give birth to a bunch of Osama Bin Johnsons. I don't deny our troops aren't the best behaved group but raping and torturing women as the article states is no believable. If you change all mentions of US troops to Saddam's Henchmen, you have the story correct but it is years old

Why isn't it believable? Did you forget about Abu Ghraib already? Bear in mind a large portion of the photos that came from that scandal were never seen by the public thanks to the Defence Department keeping them under wraps.

www.washingtonpost.com...

Members of Congress today expressed shock and disgust after viewing hundreds of photographs and video clips related to the abuse of U.S.-held prisoners in Iraq, material that they said would be withheld from the public to protect the integrity of military trials and to avoid further inflaming America's enemies.

Hah! "inflaming America's enemies"?!? I don't think so. More like "We didn't want to lose any more support for this war!"

Anything that website that begins with the words AlJazeera is not a credible site. There should be a large banner on ATS stating this. The purpose of Al Jazeera is to paint a bad image of America through extreme propaganda. We already have that going on here, why listen to someone else? Remember, we are at war with these guys. Sure they're going to post false things. And vice versa.

By that logic we should also say the same about links to fox news.
(i can't see either of these happening any time soon...)

Well, if you look at the thread on media bias in the US, you'll find that Fox news, while able to spin their personal opinion on stories has the burden of proof put on them by rival news agencies. The big 3 would love nothing more than to do a full day's broadcast about Fox News fabricating news. So, though the commentators are very pro-conservative they still must report the news or risk being swept under the rug by CNN or the Big 3.

This is not the case for Aljazeera, however and I am not calling foul here just yet but most of us who are impartial politically are going to have to see more concrete proof and a better source , I'm afraid. I know its easy to want it to be true so badly and I sypathize, believe me. However, the record for accurate news from Aljazeera is dismal and uncomparable with any other news sourc cept maybe newsmax..who I think get away with the same crap on the other side of that coin.

Unfortunately, i dont think it's possible to rely on a single news source these days - especially if you are really after the facts.

Don't get me wrong - i agree Al Jazeera has an agenda of it's own - all i'm saying is Fox News is the cloest thing to a US counterpart to AJ

Sorry Marg, as a Army Veteran Im not gonna buy into this story.

Your a military wife, how is it that you beleave this garbage?

Yeah, every military has some bad apples and their delt with harshly if they step over the line, but this Siroos is attacking our whole military establishment which freed Iraq and Afghanistan from THUGS. She makes us out to be worse than the Terrorists that are cutting off heads, killing police and setting off bombs.

I feel like we're living in an Alice-in-Wonderland world...where everything is upside down....good is Bad....Bad is good....Cops are bad and criminals are oppressed....Muslim Terrorists are freedom fighters and US Troops are criminals and rapists.

Ive never heard her say "Thanks" to America for freeing MILLIONS of woman in the Middle-East. All I hear from her is how bad we are. These are the words Siroos should be posting:

-Thank You America for having the courage to free Afghanistan and Iraq and kill the Islamic terrorists and Thugs who would rape me and than slice my throat in a hot minute. Thank you for standing up to the crooked UN and the stinking French, Germans and Russians, who made money off of our misery and blood.

THANK YOU AMERICA, LAND OF THE BRAVE AND HOME OF THE FREE.

How could we forget it? It was in the news FOREVER. The people who were in the photos were prosecuted and were punished. That says that it is not accepted behavior.

I doubt that anyone in the US, much less the government, would encourage the rape of a 70 year old woman. What would that gain? I find it VERY hard to believe that anyone in uniform would follow an order to do that. It would be an illegal order. Someone would have stood up and said no.

This is how the Abi Ghraib photos came out. Someone said "that is wrong and it must be exposed."

If Al Jazeera is the best you can do, you might as well start saying that you read it in the National Inquirer. It will have the same effect.

The good part is that we don't have to do it. There are many in Iran who already want to join the 21st century. The fact that they are starting to privatize their industries speaks volumes of capitalism and all it has to offer. The theocracy knows that if they want to remain in power, they must give in to the reformers and join the rest of the world. They must start to comply with the UN so that the sanctions can be lifted and their industries can grow. Why build products when you have limits on where you can sell them?

It is only a matter of time.

Yeah, I saw that....the punks yelled "Allah Akbar" as they shot him in the back. What brave warriors these Muslim terrorists are, Im sure Allah would be proud of anyone who shoots a wounded man in the back. Yet moderate Muslims will sit silent when this happens to any of us, but will take to the streets if any of their mosques are even scratched in a firefight.

If America leaves Iraq and Afghanistan, these Terrorists will take over and than who will Siroos complain to? WTF would happen to a Muslim woman who spoke out against the Taliban?

She would be raped and than her throat slit wide open on the soccer field.
