This is an interesting development. Because there are 170 million Tik-Tok subscribers in the USA...

President-elect Trump says he should be the one to make the decision on whether TikTok can continue operating in the United States, due to the unique national security and First Amendment issues raised by this case, he said in an amicus brief Friday.

Trump’s argument comes in an amicus brief "supporting neither party," filed Friday December 27th. The Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments on Jan. 10, 2025 on the law that requires a divestment of TikTok from foreign adversary control.

TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a company based in Beijing and connected to the Chinese Communist Party.

"Today, President Donald J. Trump has filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court asking the Court to extend the deadline that would cause TikTok’s imminent shutdown, and allow President Trump the opportunity to resolve the issue in a way that saves TikTok and preserves American national security once he resumes office as President of the United States on January 20, 2025," Trump incoming White House Communications Director Steven Cheung told Fox News Digital.

"President Donald J. Trump ("President Trump") is the 45th and soon to be the 47th President of the United States of America," the brief states.

"On January 20, 2025, President Trump will assume responsibility for the United States’ national security, foreign policy, and other vital executive functions."

I've never used Tik-Tok, but I have seen some of the home videos. What is the Tik-Tok application or service accused of doing? Stealing Personal Information and Spying on people for China, in some way?

Love Trump but It's pretty weird how Trump went from "tic tok is the devil, til tok is spying on Americans" to "I love tic tok let's save tik Tok" in just a few months

Was he behind the effort to get Tik-Tok banned? (I've not followed the Tik-Tok saga at all)

Oh Trump used to be HUGE anti Tik Tok, you don't remember? It was like one of the big things he was after sometime ago. Then One of Trumps big donors on this campaign has money in Tik tok or part ownership or something and I remember like 8 months ago somebody questioned Trump about it and his donor and Trump said "we've never discussed Tik Tok together" and that's when he became pro tik tok all of a sudden

In 2020, the United States government announced that it was considering banning the Chinese social media platform TikTok upon a request from then-president Donald Trump, who viewed the app as a national security threat

I recall candidate Trump saying Tik-Tok could be a spy platform. I didn't pay much attention, because I thought mostly kids used Tik-Tok for dance videos and silly stuff. Then tonight I read that 170 million Americans are registered users, and suddenly I realized that many of those have to be Trump supporters.

Ya here we go it was after Trump met with mega donor Jeffery Yass, in March 2024, who owns a "significant stake" in the company that owns Tik Tok then all of a sudden Trump did a literal "360" and all of a sudden Tik Tok was good, this was after the Trump administration back in 2020 got the App banned from all US govt personal, army, navy airforce etc.

Trump was called on it and asked why he did a 360 on tik tok like immediately after meeting with a huge donor Jeff Yass who own a big stake of tik tok and he only replied with "I've never talked to Jeff Yass about Tik tok before".

Like I said I love Trump but so obvious he's doing his buddy who donated huge to the campaign a favor lol

Like why else would Trump care so much about it? It's not his company and it's considered a "national security threat" so much so that both Trumps administration and Bidens administration both banned it from government employee phones and both wanted it banned from the US even though Trump, Biden and Kamala were all using it anyways. Biden and Kamala for years and Trump got on tik tok right after the Jeff Yass meeting

No, I don't see it as weird at all. He smells money for him and off he runs, gimme gimme gimme. Maybe to all the staunch patriots who supported the ban on that ''devil'' controlled site sure, supporting Trump all along and now he is supporting Tic Tok. No, no surprise at all.

It's the same thing with crypto. Trump was not interested in it a while back when it became a national issue saying something like ''don't sound good to me'' yet now, after Vance got all the crypto boys to donate to the campaign and Trump started his own line of crypto, now, it's full steam ahead.

It's difficult to try and understand how any of the hardest and most loyal Trump supporters who promote him every day can now claim, uh, dint know that... That is very Trumpian though.

As a believer in individual "free will and choice", I'm against preventing people from doing what they want to do, if what they want to do doesn't harm others. Maybe a "negotiation" can happen between the Trump Admin and Tik-Tok's owner, that will make the application access fewer permissions on smart-phones by default.

Ya when tik tok first started out years ago it was like that, mostly kids, teens and early 20s sharing dance videos and goofy stuff but it just continued to grow and grow then older people got on it. Kinda like facebook when it first started was just college kids, then high school kids but over time older people got on Facebook too.

Well hes a businessman, it's what he's all about his entire life. I know this and I think a good majority of Trump supporters know this as well but I still support and love him. 99% of the world will support something that benefits them, that's just human nature

Oh I'm the same way I dont care what people wanna do themselves and don't like government over reach banning things like menthol smokes. I personally don't use tik tok but pretty much everyone I know uses it. My Mom just turned 86 and she watches tik tok videos all the time mainly to see her great grandchildren dancing and acting goofy lol.

I do think it should be banned from US service personal on duty though cause you're giving up your location and everything else you might secretly share with family.

The FBi, Cia, NSA have all said its one the greatest threats to American security in the past

Trump sees everything as bargaining chips. He wants to be able to use tic toc in negotiations with China. He didn't say it shouldn't be shut down. He said he needs to determine what happens to it when he takes office.

For one the CIA already done it China is to late. China gets all their chips from US companies if you don't think the CIA didn't set up a back door your crazy. The CIA is in control of a lot of things and very little oversight. You would be shocked if you truly knew the control the CIA has in countries
