"If Canada was to become our 51st state, their taxes would be cut by more than 60%, their businesses would immediately double in size, and they would be militarily protected like no other country anywhere in the world," Trump wrote.

President-elect Donald Trump's interest in making Canada the 51st U.S. state is a "huge opportunity" to do "something great" on the world stage, according to "Shark Tank" star Kevin O'Leary. I think this is a great idea, and I think the potential is massive, and the opportunity is huge," the Canadian investor said during an appearance on "America's Newsroom" on Friday. "I think at the end of the day, Canadians and Americans, their DNA is the same in terms of what they believe in… freedom."

I thought this was just a joke and usual Trump being Trump, but this seems to have pause for conversation at the very least. Interesting concept, and on the surface, seems to have many positives. I would think breaking it up into states out of the provinces would offer good representation for all. It will be interesting to see what Canadians think of this idea. We got your Moosehead beer and have ice hockey in the south. Might as well take the last step.

“Mr. Wonderful” said that Canadians do not want Prime Minister Justin Trudeau making the deal, so he is going to do it himself.

“I like this idea and at least half of Canadians are interested. The problem is the government’s collapsing Canada right now. Nobody wants Trudeau to negotiate this deal. I don’t want him doing it for me. So I’m going to go to Mar a Lago. I’ll start the narrative. The 41 million Canadians, I think most of them would trust me on this deal.”
-from your link.

This might be a perfect time for all of this. Security for all would be amazing, that alone would be golden. I suppose the only downside would be Canadians would be subject to US government rather than Canadian, run by Trudeau, if that's a downside for anyone.

I can't remember who it was, or on which thread, but someone pointed out to another member that they were just "sane-washing".

You just cannot put a price on phraseology with that level of utter now-ness.

The Emperor is of course stark bollock naked but that's just how it is now.

London has fallen along with the rest of the UK. It will be interesting to see how the global power structure and territorial boundriesis are reshaped. I believe Trump when he says America will enter it's Golden Age under his leadership, the US empire is expanding and I think King Charles and soon to be King William will be supportive allies. Exciting times for sure!

My Uncle was a WW2 Vet who moved to Canada from Wales after the war,and before he died back in the 1980's he had two theories that he was almost obsessed with which he would constantly babble about when he visited us-

One was that the USA would invade Canada and incorporate it into America.
The other was that muslims would overrun Europe and the UK.

I was too young to have an opinion on his theories at the time, but I do remember my other relatives laughing at him, rolling their eyes and telling me he was crazy..

I suspect they ain't laughing any more Uncle Dennis.

As a Canadian I don't like this idea, Kevin O'Leary is a selfish 'a' hole, all he cares about is lining his own pockets and besides his actions sound treasonous, he also has no authority at all to represent Canada in any way. Keven has a track record of being selfish, being full of himself, being greedy and looking down on anyone who is poor, its why he failed at running for Prime Minister.

My main concerns would be having my country's resources exploited at the expense of the people of Canada.

The only benefit I could see is that the USA's constitution is pretty solid compared to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms that Turdeau currently uses as toilet paper. Having easier access to fire arms and not needing a passport to go shopping in the US. Its still a big no thank you for me, Canada is on the verge of its own renaissance very soon, leave us alone we'll be just fine on our own Thank You.

I wonder what the majority of Canadians think about this, anybody asked them?

So much for Trump wanting to withdraw from the world stage etc......expansionism at its best.

I think all spoilt children, at some point, find out that not everything and everyone can be bought and you don't always get what you want.

I guess time will tell.

Maybe make a deal with Charles. Everything east Manitoba...so Maintoba, Ontario, Quebec and those small eastern provinces can belong to the UK.

USA gets Nunavet, NW Territories, Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Well, all we need now is for the American Colonies...I mean the United States of America... to join the British Commonwealth like they were suppose to a couple of Hundred years ago, and be part of the Anglo family again.
We would welcome you back.
Those that dont like it can return home, those that are illegal can be sent home.
Lots of room in Africa.
Now with the future King William bestest buddies with the US President, things may look up.
Besides, Europe may need a hand soon....and again, for some cleansing.
Who else they gonna call, but there own children far far away?
