Happy Hanukkah! I don't celebrate, but my father used to take us to a church that seemed to follow the Old Testament traditions like Feast of
Tabernacles, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Sabbath on Saturdays, also sundown on Friday to sunrise on Sunday we weren't allowed to work or
even watch tv; I don't remember all of the Holy Days, but I'd say we were doing activities, feasts, and church related things over 150 days out of the
year. My oldest sister even label herself a "new international Jew" after her completion of ABC(American Bible College, I think), but I never stayed
invested.
I'm Polish(really, just a Texan American with Polish ancestry), and because of that church, we didn't even celebrate Christmas, although my
Grandparents did. We did have a lot of pierogi's and kielbasa and some kind of beef stew during those winter days, so I always thought we were
celebrating some kind of tradition. Regardless, I learned how to share and give somehow and those days strengthened me into someone who cares for
others.
Happy Hanukah.
