Can we be certain that Jesus Christ was born on December 25th? The Bible gives no exact date for His birth, so why celebrate on a date tied to pagan traditions? 🎄

The first recorded instance of December 25th being celebrated as Christ's birth comes from a Roman calendar in AD 336, long after it was used to celebrate Dies Natalis Solis Invicti (the “Birthday of the Unconquered Sun”). This date is speculated to have origins in ancient Babylon (approx. 2000 BC), marking the birth of Tammuz, and is celebrated after a woman’s typical gestation period following the pagan fertility festival of Easter. By aligning Christ’s birth with this pagan festival, we risk blending the worship of God with sun worship, which the Bible condemns (Romans 1:25).

Let’s also remember the abominable practices described in Ezekiel 8:16-18, where the people were worshipping the sun in God’s temple—an act of rebellion against God. As Ecclesiastes 1:9 reminds us, “There is nothing new under the sun”, and such practices persist even today.

Additionally, Jeremiah 10:2-5 warns against the customs of the nations, such as cutting, fastening in place and decorating trees with silver and gold—practices still reflected in today’s December 25th tradition. This mirrors an ancient pagan ritual that elevates the tree to the status of an idol.

In Deuteronomy 12:29-32, God specifically commands His people not to adopt the worship practices of other nations, emphasizing that worship must align with His word in Bible scripture, not with man-made traditions.

If you love the LORD God, flee from this pagan festival and don’t justify it for the sake of family. Jesus said, “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me” (Matthew 10:37 ESV).

We are commanded to worship God in spirit and truth. If the world or your family opposes you, rejoice, for your reward in heaven will be great. As they persecuted the prophets, so they will persecute you. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you, to Him be the glory, now and forever.

No we cannot. It was/is actually believed that he was born during the summer time. Unlike our current culture where we want to know everything about everything, which isn't bad, the writers of the bible were not concerned about the date of his birth. They were more concerned about the events around his birth.

If I remember right it is the same thing with his death. They were focused on the prophecies of the old testament. I do not think any of the prophesies said that he would die around Passover. Since he did, we can get a good idea of when he died.

Can we honestly know it is December 23rd today?

How often has the official calendar added or subtracted days or weeks?

Is there missing time? Added history?

Seems to me, this line of questioning is meant to negate from the miracle of Christ's birth.

I did Christmas for my husband because when we first got together he legit CRIED about not having a Christmas tree. [Ahh, red flags ignored........]

I am well aware it is a pagan or satanic holiday but I hope and do have faith that our creator knows my heart and knows I was not worshipping false idols or being a pagan just because I didn't want huge arguments constantly over a dang holiday.

You forgot that well established guy in red. The one endorced by the Coka Cola Company.

Well, as months use to be 4 weeks with 2 not counted days between them, that is 30 days each and every month. And the days were named by starting on the first day that counted, we can't even match which day the sabbath is support to be on. Not bringing up the argument of Saturday or Sunday. That is Saturn day and the Sun day.

Woopse, our calendar is not even not releted by dates or days, but the days are named for pagen gods.

December 25 was chosen ot take over a Roman fertility right Holiday.

Now to address other pagen practices in the modern church. Wearing fancy clothes for church is pagen. Going to the kirke (church) is pagen. Having that pointy thing on top of the kirke to make it higher is pagen. Having one person in charge as a spiritual leader is pagen.

Merry Christmas to all you pagens who worship in the traditional way passed down from the Roman, Greek, Egyptian, etcetera and soforth, religious books and practices of the past.

Yes it is all plagerized. Get over it and worship as you will as long as it doesn't harm others or yourself.

Oh, Christ is from Christos which is Latin for Horus the Egyptian god as mentioned in a post above.

God made everything in the universe including men. Man goes and makes god in the image of man. God is not within the organized religions of the god man made. The bible even has an example of how this happened, the story of the golden calf.

There is no actual historical record of any person called Jesus or any person acting like him at that time. Biblical archaeologists have for centuries been scouring the ME for ANY reference to Jesus and up to the present time they have found nothing. Now what you are probably referring to is the biblical scriptures, which according to the latest research has been dated to the 300 to 325 AD, the Codex Vaticanus. This then was collated a good 300 years after the so called event.
And as such there have been many many ancient books that could be taken as true but are not. A few King Arthur, Midas, Cyclops, Atlantis, Krakens, Beowulf etc. etc. all have their followers who try to prove these stories are true. It's called FAITH.

Jesus, literal meaning, son of Zeus. Did they have a letter J 2000 years ago? No they did not.

Probable actual name, Hosuah.

Jesus is a stuck on title from when the bible was rewritten, and rewritten, and rewritten.....

I had always thought it was a well known fact that Christ wasn't born on Dec. 25th, and that the date was chosen as a matter of convenience rather than historical accuracy. I also seem to remember some thinking the date was based on a winter date when there wasn't a lot of other stuff going on to give people something to celebrate during a difficult and trying time of the year from a food availability and cold standpoint.

Luckily, I watched the movie Dogma a couple of nights ago.
A verse was quoted: "whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

For full context:

15“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 18Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

So basically, if the Church, in solemn assembly, declares that Jesus was born on December 25, then it is so. God can't do anything about it. And even Jesus is with the Church people while they declare it.

Literally? Of course not. It's the Winter Solstice, just like Easter is the Spring Equinox. This is a no-brainer. If you believe either, you are certifiable and need to take a good, hard look at your beliefs.

Ah, but in the heat of debate, this wax nose gets soft, squishey, and falls off.

Who is able to speak about God to others without the corruption of those that inverted the various religions to subdu their fellow men?

Each must figure it out on their own. If you can't see the work of God in yourself, a forest or just a blade of grass, what help is a religon to you?
