Remember, one of his goals is to make/produce more within our borders, making America more independent,

So there is coffee grown in Hawaii, California, and Puerto Rico. When Trump put tariffs on China goods, China quit buying U.S. agriculture like soy beans. Soy beans rotted in the fields, so Trump gave out the tariff money to the farmers.

The coffee tariff money could go to Hawaii, California, and Puerto Rico growers. The California coffee is about $60/5oz presently.

OOPs!! Sorry about that, folks! Looks like the italics on page 1 were my fault. I must have missed closing out the BB Code for Italics in my post. That, or I fat fingered something. I'm outside the widow to edit now, so I can't fix it.

Speaking of tariffs; where we would be wise to place tariffs is not on incoming goods, but rather on outgoing raw materials. Two things are accomplished when you do it this way.

First, you don't injure competing American businesses similar to what FullHeathan describes above. What happens is, now the incoming goods prices are higher because manufacturing costs are higher due to the increased prices on raw materials. What this does is makes it not as easy for imported goods prices to undercut American made products. This is a win-win for not only America, but or all countries who have trade deficits due to cheap labor.

Second, increasing raw material export tariffs shores up American production and employs more American workers by increasing revenue margins. This not only raises revenue margins, but also profit margins as well, so it's attractive to businesses to re-invest in their production. Win-win again. This one is actually a triple win.

Greetings Mr. 105,6777%-Heathen.

A slight tariff has been applied to your title, raising you above the base-line for bearded old men.

However : we also wish to inform you that you are eligible for a subsidy, which can be easily obtained by jumping through a series of hoops, while whistling 'Daisy-Belle'.

Then your monthly ration of one cup of Government-Coffee will be sent in the mail.

You're welcome.

Seems like a much better idea than selling crappy art for millions or pressuring foreign countries with restricted aid in return for sacking an official or selling fissile material to a hostile superpower or even laundering money through the Ukraine and then supporting a conflict as a smokescreen whilst destroying the evidence.

A Quite substantially more stable platform for reform than rebuilding Haiti whilst not actually doing anything.

Fundamental reform that loads the fickle finger of fate in favour of domestic production and American manufacturing. You should put this in someone’s suggestion box 👍

My whistling is fairly crappy. I could maybe ride a bicycle built for two though.

The coffee that I currently buy is about $.40/oz.

however:

these are running at $1.36 - $1.40/oz.
that 3rd one is from Nicaragua.

a 300% tariff on all other coffee imports should encourage more sales of Trump coffee. But even without a tariff, he could order that only Trump Coffee be served in military mess halls, and Federal buildings.

Oh the humanity! A bit of Tariffs on a country doing genocide and organ harvesting. It should be a full trade embargo and people just suck it up because it's the right thing to do, but people need their Temu and electonic gizmos, and have no principles.

Imagine going back to WWII and saying, "We really shouldn't do business with Jew genociders, but ... you know ...VWs are awesome cars, so we'll just raise a few tariffs.

Also, more OT, where is the link to coffee tariffs? I searched and could find no evidence coffee is on the list.

I wouldn't turn-up my nose at a nice free cup of Trump-coffee.
Just like I would gratefully accept a free Bud-Light if offered kindly.

Say it with me : " It's great covfefe. The best covfefe ! "

I can offer you in exchange, some Trudeau-Tea.

But fair warning : it stinks right outta the bag, has a weird green-black colour like Canadian-goose poop, goes-down like liquid sandpaper, and has a lingering aftertaste like Justin-Biebers old voodoo-butter skunk sneakers that he forgot out in the rain at his cottage five years ago.

I ain't sweating the tariffs I'll only buy the cheapest coffee if it happens to be what I think is the best tasting coffee.

I buy coffee when on really good sales, usually I get Folgers or Maxwell house, but occasionally I do get some Hills Bros. I stock coffee, have eighteen cans in stock presently, got six Folgers for 5.66 a twenty 25.9 ounce can about two months ago, three months ago I got Maxwell house thirty and a half ounce cans for 5.49...bought eight cans of that to restock the shelves.

A friend of ours roasts great guatabalan beans, they are my grandson in laws parents. We baby sit the great grand kids and I get a bag of that great coffee occasionally. A quarter cup of that per can makes the cheaper coffees taste great. A pound bag lasts for four months that way. If we have company sometimes I will use that coffee pure, it is really good, but I do not want to get spoiled even though it is free to us. I think he charges about fifteen bucks a pound for his coffee, too rich for my taste. But it sure is good...he has some great suppliers for his coffee beans.

wow, so when tarrifs are collected, POTUS gets the cash? Thats a sweet deal.

No, POTUS doesn't get the cash, directly.

With tariffs, what the POTUS does get to do is pick winners and losers. He can selectively apply tariffs on products favoring country A compared to country B. Country B can then decide to give Trump some land on which to build a golf course and a Trump tower, and country B will suddenly find its tariffs reduced or eliminated. Then country A will suddenly decide they have to find a way to get some cash to Trump so that they are not at an economic disadvantage relative to country B. This is why Trump wants to eliminate or reduce conventional taxes and put tariffs on almost everything. It will dramatically increase his ability to directly manipulate a larger fraction of the nation's economy for his personal gain. His low-information supporters will see their taxes reduced and continue to support him for that, and will ignore the fact that he is using his office for personal gain.

Or let's look at a deal that actually happened during the first Trump Administration. Before he became part of Trump's team, General Michael Flynn was involved in a business plan with other former Generals to make Saudi Arabia a nuclear power. A company called IP3 was formed to push the plan forward. When Flynn joined the Trump team in 2017, he immediately began pushing this plan. The plan involved transferring some sensitive US nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia so they could build their own nuclear reactors. By law, this technology is controlled by the Energy Department, so Trump got Energy Secretary Rick Perry to sign off on the technology transfer, while keeping the details hidden from public view. Then, a couple of months after Trump leaves office, his son-in-law suddenly gets a 2 Billion dollar sweetheart loan deal from Saudi Arabia to develop real estate over the objections of the Saudi investment advisers.

There is abundant evidence that Donald Trump is a career, lifetime, white collar criminal. He thinks like one, talks like one, and acts like one. At his age, he is certainly not going to change his modus operandi now. He has in the past and intends in the future to use his office for those purposes when he gets the opportunity.

This is interesting, tarriffs create inflation, lower taxes benefit the people at the top.
Normal folks will feel the brunt the most.

Surely tariffs are an admission that the country just can't compete?

Free trade means the best quality for the best price.

It's that simple.

Where do the beans come from, that these re-branded products use? Most of them don't mention the source, which is a fairly clear indicator that they are imported. Cheap at the moment, soon to cost a bomb.

Also, when you are selling a product at a fraction of what your competitors are, do you stay at that low pricepoint?

Or do you raise prices to just undersell your competition?

I'd give is a few weeks to less than a month and ALL coffee in North America will be way more expensive. Ditto for all the other 'tariff protected' goods.

Truly great business nous, there, by those tariff setters, eh?

The Rojo Elephant is from Nicaragua.
The Gold Roast seems to be roasted at the Trump Winery as maybe house blend for Albemarle Estate. Source of beans not listed.

Or do you raise prices to just undersell your competition?

Probably that.
The Trump brands are already a buck more per oz over most store brands, meaning Trump is probably getting that buck as his brand royalty.

Trump's genius sees it as a substitute for income tax. National sales tax. That's a regressive tax rather than progressive. The less money you have, the larger the percentage of your money goes to taxes.

There is very little affordable domestic grown coffee!

NAFTA countries might be exempt from Tariffs. Depends what the treaty says.
