So I read about this guy going to a phoenix restaurant, on the wall they have this old photo of a bunch of miners enjoying a beer.

What does this princess see? He sees black face and gets his knickers in a knot because the owner will not take it down.

Theres just no dealing with some people

People chose what makes them feel offended, they are idiots actually, in my books.

You're spot on there, Marg; nobody controls the feelings of others. It's my choice as to what I 'allow' to fooend me, and their are consequences to my choices.

I have learned not to give my power away to others; nobody can make me angry withoput my permission, and since I don't like ulcers it's pretty hard to get me riled up.

It seems like we're all so used to living in a negative world that we've forgotten the power positive energy has.

Thank you! I whole-heartedly agree. I want to choose my reactions. I want to feel that which I choose.

It's also illegal for women to eat chocolate on public transport and anyone to eat mince pies on Christmas Day.

What a complete and utter uneducated fud of a man.

Maybe they should hang him on the wall instead?

And see how he likes them apples.

After all, it's not the world is short on halfwits.

"Just hope they never hear about the Black and White Minstrel Show."

I grew up in a community in Illinois where coal-mining was the likelihood for most. The men would come home, clean themselves up, and once a year, would go to the local grade school to practice their Minstrel show. Hatred was not involved mere laughs at another culture as these white miners of first, second and third generations of immigrants from mostly Ireland, Russia and central European countries struggled to make their way, kicking the dog perhaps, but as I said, hatred was not the game.

I think that's a bit of a different kettle of fish.

Given the fact that the show’s premise involved white performers painting their faces black to portray exaggerated, often degrading versions of Black people.

The miners are dirty not painted to look the part.

Goodness.

Just hope they never hear about the Black and White Minstrel Show.

I'd post a YouTube link but snowflake heads might explode.

What is this World coming to?

Just cleaned out our log stove.

My hands are black with ash.

Should I cancel myself?
No, tell them you’re half black and seek reparations. If Kamala can do it, you might be a shoo-in.

The Black and White Minstrel show wasn't meant to be degrading, it was just an entertainment programme that had no racist overtones that I can remember.
I get that things have changed since then.

Perhaps a better retort from anyone offended by it would be to get a group of Black artists put on white make up and exaggerate stereotyped White characteristics and take the piss.

I know I for one wouldn't be offended.

The person offended by the photo is just an absolute bellend.

I dont think i would be offended either mate.

Then again i enjoy the comedy routines in the likes of Alf Garnett's "Till Death Us Do Part".

But in this day of age "The Black and White Minstrel show" would be considered a tad racist.

The thing about offense Freeborn is that it's generally taken as opposed to given.

As to the baw'bag that took offense regarding the picture of miners hanging on a wall.

Send him down a mine for a hard day's graft, and see what colour he comes back would be my thinking on the matter.

I think more people would do well to watch more South Park.
I fondly recall one episode with two Asian men, Chinese or Japanese, making fun of white Americans. It was pretty darn hilarious.

Stupid American! Ahahahahaha"

"Can I put that on my...credit card? Ahahahahaa"

Opinion: Who determines what's offensive? A photo in a downtown Phoenix restaurant raises this key question.

Society does. Obviously.

If the guy feels strongly about his offens to the picture and the restaurant owners reluctance to remove it; then the man can start a protest campaign in the hopes of making the restaurant owner comply with his demands. If enough people in the downtown Phoenix area agree than and stop going to the restaurant than Society has spoken.

My guess is the man is more interested in writing opinion pieces on the internet than the picture itself and wont be following though with his opinions.

I did a little research on this guy. Seems as though he's made a career of sorts going around and stirring up issues like this. It appears he believes this is 'social and racial "justice". His bio alleges he is a USAF vet also. I'll bet he was a real peach to have in your command.

Seems to me, he's trying to stay on the relevancy radar by traveling around finding things to get his panties all in a knot over.

Ignore him.

Heaven forbid he ever sees morris dancers as it's based on the Moorish people who lived in Morocco and aren't black - it also has roots in the Black Act and Rebels Proclomation where protesters used charcoal on their face to help conceal their identity.
