Appalling government authoritarian arrogance has happened in New York.

The government raided a private animal facility and seized a number of animals.

Apparently at least 2 victims were pets !!

The government storm troopers viscously took the animals into custody where lab people eventually euthanized!!

The victims:

Peanut the Squirrel (he was apparently handicapped and could not live outdoors!)šŸ˜¢
Fred the Raccoon

Horrible nightmare ā˜ ļø

Who's NEXT!!! šŸ„¶ļø

Government Overreach Run Amok: NY State Kills Peanut the Squirrel

Peanut the Squirrel, of internet fame, has been euthanized after the pet was seized by New York state earlier this week, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The seven-year-old gray rescue squirrel, commonly referred to as ā€œPā€™Nutā€ on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, was put to death, along with Fred the raccoon, so that the animals could be tested for the presence of rabies, according to a statement from the agency obtained by WETM.

New Yorkā€™s Democrat government has now euthanized the squirrel who clearly had a great life with his owner. This is absurd. Only leftist logic thinks this is "unsafe squirrel housing" and that the solution to that is euthanizing a beloved squirrel. We need justice for Peanut!

New York wildlife officers raided Mark Longo's home, seizing his rescue squirrel Peanut after complaints about "unsafe squirrel housing" and "wildlife gone wild" hit the department.

R.I.P.

There appears to be more to this story.....

They sent armed agents with a search warrant over basically a pet complaint.

Supposedly the search took 5 hours during which they were interrogating the spouse about her immigration status.

www.foxnews.com...

"It's not only torn my family apart, but Peanut was the cornerstone of our non-profit animal rescue," Longo said.

"And 10 to 12 DEC officers raided my house as if I was a drug dealer. I sat outside my house for five hours. I had to get a police escort to my bathroom," Longo said. "I wasn't even allowed to feed my rescue horses breakfast or lunch. I sat there like a criminal after they interrogated my wife to check out her immigration status."

Longo said authorities went through "every cabinet, nook and cranny" of his house during the search. "They got a search warrant. Four departments and a judge signed off on a search warrant for a squirrel and a raccoon. And then they took them and killed them," a visibly upset Longo said.

I wonder who they supported in the election......but I think I already know.

This article has a little more info and i am so mad right now.

"Well internet, you WON. You took one of the most amazing animals away from me because of your selfishness," he said online. "To the group of people who called DEC, thereā€™s a special place in hell for you."

www.yahoo.com...

People made a bunch of anonymous reports to the state about the guy's pets and they came in like gangbusters and murdered this poor squirrel and raccoon.

And why? What is the reason for this TRAVESTY?!

In a joint statement, the DEC and the Chemung County Department of Health say they are "coordinating to ensure the protection of public health related to the illegal possession of wild animals that have the potential to carry the rabies virus."

So this guy has a best friend for 7 years, yeah he's a squirrel so f'n what? But somehow suddenly OH NO HE MIGHT HAVE RABIES LET'S MURDER HIM.

oh no. No. No. No. Gestapo tactics from the state of New York.

He looks so cute in his cowboy hat I can't even with these squirrel and raccoon murdering freaks! They don't want anyone to be happy.

And people will keep voting in the architect of their own misery.
I just don't get it, the whole vote blue thing.
I am sure somewhere it works, maybe,
but New York has been going through interesting times lately.

Meanwhile actual crimes and criminals get nothing if arrested. We don't call NY the evil empire state here for nothing! To act like this was over rabies is such a BS lie. If he had the animals for seven years, we might have to call NY's encon negligent in their duties and this raid as a cover-up of that ineptitude. Hit them back with bureaucratic tactics. I'd even go so far as to claim misconduct, as this was a pair of publicly known animals that never rated a look at till now!

Wow, I heard this story on local radio (UK) today, I didn't hear where it was, and was surprised, thinking "Can't be Britain, it'd be a civil court matter at best, and no way would it would be killed before testing, and presumably being found negative for rabies"

An unusual situation, of a squirrel (indigenous red or invasive grey) being rescued, in captivity and unable to be released due to dependency on humans, would NOT be killed without a massive defence in court first.

I could imagine it being removed from the 'keeper' for general issues, like neighbours/busybodies complaining or whatever, but killed after removal and testing clear of disease?!

There'd be a massive legal fight here, with animal rights lawyers offering free representation, general outrage etc!

Sounds like US animal welfare authorities have MUCH stronger powers than in the UK?
Here, it's the police/relevant local authority using criminal law only to prosecute for "keeping dangerous animals" etc, but the destruction/killing of any animal not found to be dangerous, could only be ordered by a civil court.

...I genuinely can't imagine a single cash strapped UK police force, or any piss poor local authority/council, even thinking about touching a civil court "death sentence prosecution" case like this, it'd be rehoused in another sanctuary first.

We don't have rabies here, I know, and the grey squirrels are invasive pests...but one that's become dependent on humans, being killed needlessly...that's proper #in dystopian man!šŸ˜”šŸ‘Ž

OMG there would be absolute outrage here, and I'd bet my house that NO local authority would have the balls to try any death sentence case for those guys!!!

I'd only heard the story on local radio and reading your OP, so I'd assumed possible crappy conditions or whatever, but they were two totally domesticated animals living comfortably with humans...absolute #in butchers!!!

That's real "You will comply" # there!!!šŸ˜±

Do you know doesn't have to worry too much about their illegally kept pet squirrels and raccoons being euthanized by the government in New York? People who aren't posting about having illegal animals on the internet.

If you live in America and have a job, you will commit on the average 3 felonies a day between getting up in the morning, going to work, shopping for dinner, going home and going to bed.

See how that works?

I have more empathy for the squirrel than someone who thinks like you do.

My guess there is more to this story.......

Maybe the cops had a personal issue with this guy. Perhaps they suspected him of another crime and had people place fake complaints.

Regardless, it's too bad taxpayers are going to pay the lawsuit. This is one of those instances the cops should be held personally responsible.

I have more empathy for animals than I do for any person and my pet squirrels had all died of old age because I'm smarter than P'Nuts owner.

No. He was posting P'Nut to Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok and people on the internet reported him for having wildlife without a permit.

You're right that the keeper's internet visibility was the reason for the knock on the door...but do you not think the real story of this case is the summary execution of two healthy, well cared for, animals, by a dystopian authoritarian city?

That's all I've taken from this thread, and I'm glad I don't live in that city!šŸ˜±

EDIT
No permission to stay under strict licencing conditions, no rehoming in a formal sanctuary, no danger to people...but they kill them just because "You will comply"šŸ¤¬šŸ¤¬
THAT'S the issue I see, reminds me of the emergency powers/rules, many local governments were drunk on, in covid lockdown Britain!šŸ¤¬
