I think being a hermit is the only way you can be true to yourself without subsuming what makes you, you into the general will.
Doesnt matter what group you align with, there are always rules, expectations on how you will behave, whether thats at the office, at the club in Whitehall or as a member of your local bike club. The only freedom is to be alone.

You could also find a group of creatures that you have a good chemistry with.

Because don't you think the echo chamber would lack some challenges in the long run?

I could be wrong of course.

Even then you might find yourself modifying some of your behaviour to fit the group's view of you.

Some things are worth compromise about - here you must look at the big picture.

But each to their own, I guess.

I understand where you are coming from, but I don't think reality is one sided because I do think we need each other - at the same time it is also important to be able to be along with your own thoughts.

Because when we are alone then we can look deep inside our own mind and face what we find in there.

Many abnormal societies are heavily reliant on Debt/Jealousy/Revenge 💥

Define abnormal in terms of known societies.

Well, the one that springs most readily to mind is the membership of a political affiliation.

I doubt there can be one person on the planet who agrees with everything their chosen party stands for.

You could argue the case that any society that doesnt uphold the natural rule of power to the strong are abnormal too.

I wonder if a people who allow themselves to be coerced and
influenced by various means. As being perpetrated on them collectively
by and large to serve the agenda of a powerful few who obviously
don't have their best interests in mind.

Would that be an example of a normal or an abnormal society?

Normal because that way seems to be prevalent, abnormal because it goes against your wishes.

This seems to be moving into the Jean Jaques Rousseau sphere of the individual and the general good.

Ayn Rand

Pretty interesting lady actually, wrote the fountainhead which was made into a film yonks ago and more recently her Novel Atlas Shrugged was made into a pretty poor 3 parter on Amazon.

Her whole thing seems to be about objectivism and how the violence of the state is anathema to any sort of freedom, which, considering she started her life in the USSR seems like an obvious objection

Anytime, it took me ages to come round to her world view but I have to say, it doesn't seem as wrong as most of the other systems around now.

I'm amazed by how many bestsellers I've found recently to
have been written with amphatimines involved. Steven King
for example. Great works done as the result of some slight
abnormality in society. Rand being included.
