I watch the Olympics mostly for US v Austrailia in the pool. Extra cowbell and patriotic chanting from now on!

8-7 this year! Though the Aussies get more medals per capita than any country on earth, and its not even close. Pleased to see China not win "most gold medals," but disappointed they tied us at 40. 20% of the golds in diving. I swear they whip their divers in practice and threaten the Uyghur treatment on them if splash too big. And of course they win in ping pong.

The opening/closing ceremonies are boring anyway.

Next up. Los Angeles. They are being so cheap too. They're just renovating everything from '84 and swapping SoFi and The Colosseum for the opening ceremonies. Meaning the opening ceremonies in 2028 will be in Inglewood.

Should be LA's finest effort.

The Olympics will be a distant memory to me by then.

Like some old and tired forgotten game show.

Well, it was a damp squib but at least it had none of the nonsense of the opening ceremony.
Like you, I used to enjoy the Olympics back in the '70's/'80's, gymnastics and swimming were my particular fav's.
I remeber the last LA opening well, who doesn't, with 'spaceman' with his jet pack flying all over the arena.
My fav opening ceremony was the 2004 in Athens, it was magical.

What's this about a closing ceremony? What about the Para-Olympics? I though they were carrying on from these games, or are they discriminating against disabled athletes now.

What about the fallen angel coming down to earth and the minions in the dark bowing to it?

Okay, now I'll go back and watch it.

This part?

Headless gimp angel is a KNOWN STATUE called Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Wasp thing is I guess called "The Golden Voyager" which is an amalgam of pretentious French performance art crap, if I had to guess.

Otherwise, when did Satanism turn into a cross of Burning Man and Cirque du Soleil?

I’ve always thought of satanism as a drug fueled circus so sure makes sense.

"The Golden Voyager" - whatever its name is, is a literal interpretation IMO.

Who knocked of the head off - "Winged Victory" - wouldn't be those pesky Christians by any chance

The symbolism is there - regardless of the commentary...

ahh back in the seventies, eighties there used to be a program on TV called " It's a knockout" it was so funny and for some reason reminds me of this current Olympics.
Anyone that has seen it will know what i am saying immediately.
i think it may have only been broadcast in Europe and the UK.

All the best

Indeed it was, probably best not mention stewart hall.. i think he fell from grace.

i live near Warrington UK and Stewart Hall was a local presenter as well as hosting "Its a knockout"

But back then the games they played etc were so funny, i remember laughing my socks off, 1975 was probably the best year.

Look at the state of things now...

All the best oldcarpy2 glad you remember the show

Work team building day in 2019 had some original IAKO props. Those of us of a certain age geeked right out.
