Because it LOOKS like we're at war with Yemen.

US Navy faces its most intense combat since World War II against Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels
The U.S.-led campaign against Iran-backed Houthi rebels has turned into the most intense running sea battle the Navy has faced since World War II.

The combat pits the Navy’s mission to keep international waterways open against a group whose former arsenal of assault rifles and pickup trucks has grown into a seemingly inexhaustible supply of drones, missiles, and other weaponry.

Near-daily attacks by the Houthis since November have seen more than 50 vessels clearly targeted, while shipping volume has dropped in the vital Red Sea corridor that leads to the Suez Canal and into the Mediterranean.

The Houthis say the attacks are aimed at stopping the war in Gaza and supporting the Palestinians, though it comes as they try to strengthen their position in Yemen. All signs suggest the warfare will intensify — putting U.S. sailors, their allies, and commercial vessels at more risk.

abcnews.go.com...

They're shooting missiles and launching drones at us...and we're shooting back at them.

Sure sounds like a war to me.

World leaders have turned our planet into a powder keg; I hope they're proud of themselves. I know Joe Biden is awfully proud of the job he's done.

I hope their dooms day bunkers leak.

Biden should let us know if we're in another war.
I wonder if HE knows.

I don’t think we’re at war with Yemen.

The Houthis are a rebel faction trying to take Yemen.

We could just leave if we wanted too, but I suppose we’re doing Israel and Egypt a solid and trying to open the Straight back up.

We’re the number one produce of oil and only getting a small fraction from Saudi Arabia right now, so we don’t really need it more than the rest of the world.

We could just leave if we wanted too,

We can't leave there. The Red Sea is a vital seaway to the Suez Canal. As long as the Houthi rebels control passage there global shipping remains stymied.

The US is leading a coalition of nations to counter piracy and terrorism, consistent with international law (United Nations Security Council resolution 1373 (2001).

Just because you are ignorant of this doesn't mean that Biden is.

You’re right.

But make no mistake, others need that far more than we do.

Like I said, we’re doing everyone else a solid by wearing down the Houthis.

You see, that's the issue today...we (the United States) "could" leave there and survive, but we don't "want" to lose the Red Sea as a vital seaway to the Suez Canal. And, the civilized World at large "would" be compromised. But we "could" leave there.

The Houthi's in Yemen could be brought to their knees in just 60-90 days if we were serious about actually stopping them. Instead, our policies allow them to grow in ranks.

A 100% naval blockade would end the Houthi movement inside Yemen in less than 3 months, with the (only) conditions for lifting the blockade being the Yemenis cast out the Houthi (or else). Yes, this would be 'tough love', but it could be done.

OR...we could keep doing what we are doing which is protecting the shipping lanes.

The bigger question in all of this is...WHERE IS EVERYONE ELSE???? Why are we and a select few (very select, and very few) others the only ones spending billions doing anything about it???

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm tired of being the World's janitor.

I have a friend on a cargo ship out of Napoli that says this battle has been going on for quite some time already

I am too. But as long as we keep stringing up hornet's nests all around, I guess it's probably us that is responsible for keeping them from stinging everyone else in the neighborhood.

I have to retract this comment. We don't stir up all the hornet's nests. Just most of them.

True that.

But that should change also, IMO.

The CIA needs to be crushed, or severely restricted. They are the enablers.

There are 2 distinct departments of the CIA. The first is intelligence gathering and the other is covert operations. Their covert operations needs ground to dust. They are the instigators. The enablers.

Well, we've been bombing Yemen, or Saudi Arabia has been bombing them using our stuff since at least 2009.

The CIA are out of control, trouble makers!

It's sad (to me) to think about what global conflict has become today.

It's not about winning or losing, it's all about how much of the 'other guy's' money you can spend, and how much of the 'other guy's' stuff you can break. The body count is only a secondary statistic which is used to calculate how much real estate you need to bury them, or how much fuel you need to burn them.

Most folk don't realize it but war has become obsolete. What I mean by that is that war has gotten so sophisticated that there can be no winners in a war of nuclear-capable nations. In another global conflict between these forces, the inevitable outcome will be complete annihilation. There will be no winner left to gloat.

Even in limited wars, forces have reverted back to World War 1 tactics to avoid annihilation. Even then, the body counts are staggering. Reportedly, over 600,000 dead Ukrainians so far, in only 2 years of fighting. Trench warfare is back in style now because of the immense devastation by sophistication. Soldiers on the front lines can not hide from it any longer.

War has become obsolete.

Oh, I agree. I've been saying this for a long, long, time. My usual line is...winning at conventional warfare is not possible in the presence of nuclear weapons. The only hope is to 'spend' the enemy into extinction, the body count is irrelevant.

Trench warfare is popular now because it makes for headlines, nothing more. If a bunch of drones went out and fought a massive battle, no one would care. Blood makes news, and drones don't bleed.

People should really take stock of this concept because it explains a lot about how propaganda works, and how the media works in shaping public opinion. The media thrives on blood. Blood makes news. And news of blood shapes opinions and emotions. No machine can ever do this.

War needs blood, and without blood there is no war. And the media needs war (and conflict); it is, in a manner of speaking, their life blood.

wow, when you say it like that, it almost looks as if the folks that sell weapons are the clear front runners in all this. Score one for the MIC.
