We have an Eglu:

www.omlet.co.uk...

Houses 3 girls and its in a run I made quite cheaply with wooden fenceposts and mesh.

I let them out in the garden and they love eating snail eggs, which they sniff out.

One of them caught a mouse, swallowed it whole.

And at one time to think the presidential aspirations were to have a chicken in every pot.

On the heels of the World Bank saying farming needs to end.

Hmmm wonder if this has anything to do with it? I remember reading about this Study back in 2021....or could just be them trying to take control of food chain

Chickens are raptors.

Vicious little predators.

I’ve seen three play tug of war with a baby snake like it was the super bowl

No coincidence here folks, bird flu, which is not transmitted to humans unless tampered with. It's all in the footnotes for agenda 2030.

I was struggling at first, it's been a cold year in the UK. Night time temperatures have only just started to climb above 10C or 50F. If it isn't the temperature it could be moisture or pests? I love basil, my issue has been gnats since basil likes the soil to be moist... So do gnats, only takes a few to have an ongoing issue. Mulch or coverings help or a good drying out if it can be done.

They're little monsters, they'll eat anything given half the chance, apparently they'll stay away from poisonous stuff though, they'll ravage a tomato plant but they won't eat the foliage.

I’m not saying that there are no nefarious intentions here, but I can tell you this. As someone who works in poultry production, margins are very, very slim in this industry. Budgets are extremely tight. It’s very likely that this was a maintenance issue that was intentionally ignored due to budget constraints.

Something like 35,000 food production facilities burn down a year, and always have. The conspiracy community just latched onto it in the last few years. You barely hear about it, because it's a common occurrence.

It will make zero difference in the price and availability of chicken.

Accidents and insurance fraud are behind the 30,000 food plant fires a year in America. It's not a new thing, and it changes nothing in our day to day life. Eggs might go up for a couple weeks again, in the worst case scenario.

It's cruel to drown chickens.

Especially if most of the carcasses were salvaged and sent to Fast Food joints. People who dine at Popeyes, Kentucky Fried, Kanes, etc., won't know they're consuming meat from birds who died of smoke inhalation.

If they do, it must not have been enough to put out such a large fire.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Yeah they go a long way in keeping a garden pest free, given that pesticides and fungicides are so destructive and cheap grub is harder to come by these days it really makes me wonder why there's not much effort towards either small scale farming or upgrading the industrial side of things.

Might actually save money keeping chickens these days given the price of eggs!

It was a blessing in disguise really, I'd had them for a few years and they were past peak health and couldn't quite bring myself to kill them (was planning on doing the hand over their back 'hypnotism' style method then wringing their neck but had grown attached to them)

I use restorative farming, no dig techniques with loads of mycelium in the soil so fertilisers don't need to be used, the plants suffer less stress from the crazy UK climate and fungicides don't need to be used as the plants are resistant to them (highly recommend Growmate Rootmax as a £40 jar of spores has lasted 2 years on a 100m2 plot).

Sadly illegal to keep chickens on the allotment due to by laws but they did a far better job than myself at keeping pests off plants and far better for the environment/food chain then using slug pellets or insecticides - they'd destroy a few plants in their search for grubs but overall got a bigger, better harvest than not having them.

Eggs are crazy expensive at the moment and it takes two or three store bought eggs to feel full compared to one fresh as the albumen is so thick and yoke is so rich - poached eggs were so much easier to make with them though I couldn't use them in baking as it made cakes bright yellow with an eggy flavour - the chickens mainly ate grubs, cherries and food scraps so only cost was grit/crushed sea shells and suet pellets which cost next to nothing - only had three chickens but more than enough eggs for myself, family, friends, neighbours and selling them occasionally to keep up with the ammount they laid.

Well, they aren't trying to starve us we have had bumper crops of soybeans and corn.

BTW the World Bank doesn't want to end farming it supposedly it wants to increase sustainability, like lowering the use of fertilizers and lowering it's runoff into our lakes streams rivers, and oceans. If true thats not a bad thing.

We can argue the WB is misrepresenting their position, but it's disingenuous to represent thier actual public opinion as anything other what it actually is

The article states, “The World Bank has issued a notice to western nations that they must completely abolish farming in order to achieve ‘net zero emissions’ by the year 2030. The plan involves closing down the world’s farms and placing them all under the control of a handful of WEF Young Global Leaders, such as Bill Gates, who will then ‘radically alter the way food is grown.'"

Similar claims were also shared on Facebook.

Our rating: False
The claim misrepresents a World Bank report that calls for increased investment in sustainable agricultural practices. It is not a treaty, nor does it call for the end of farming. The article comes from a website that regularly publishes false information.

Serial misinformation spreader misrepresents report

The article focuses on a World Bank report titled “Recipe for a Livable Planet: Achieving Net Zero Emissions in the Agrifood System,” which calls for greener and more sustainable agriculture practices. It holds there are “affordable and readily available measures that can cut nearly a third of the world’s planet heating emissions while ensuring global food security.”

NAPERVILLE, Illinois, June 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. corn and soybean crops are in great shape early in the growing season, and although there is plenty of time for fortune to turn, this year’s harvest is already in good company.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday pegged 72% of U.S. soybeans as being in good or excellent health, in the agency’s first assessment of the season. That was in line with trade expectations and is above the 10-year average for initial soy ratings of 68%.
