Here's the weird thing. DeSantis is a very bright guy. He graduated from Yale, Magna Cum Laude, then went to Harvard Law School. Served in the Navy in the Judge Advocate General Corps. He knows the law. Which means that he has to know that what he's proposing here is blatantly unconstitutional and illegal. Nobody gets to use lethal force on the basis of a suspicion.

He took an oath of office to support the Constitution of the US, which includes all the laws that were passed under it. What is it about the MAGA crowd that they claim to prefer illegality even after taking oaths to the contrary?

Funny you mention that, being as our CIC totally ignores the law and constitution, even with SCOTUS rulling against him.

If our top official won't even follow the constitution ans laws of this country, how could anyone expect the citizens to?

Our leaders are supposed to lead by example; Biden set the stage, and now some are crying foul because they're following his lead. Whatever.

Take a page out of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's play book; Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is endorsing the authorisation of deadly force when dealing with suspected drug traffickers at the southern border.

Ron DeSantis endorses 'deadly force' against migrants suspected of trafficking drugs

EAGLE PASS, Texas — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday said he supported using "deadly force" against migrants coming into the United States who were suspected of bringing in drugs.

link

This endorsement comes on the heals of the mistraled case against 75-year-old Arizona rancher George Alan Kelly, accused of fatally shooting a migrant on his property near the U.S.-Mexico border last month.

Do cooler heads need to prevail at the southern border or is deadly force the only response that will keep the drug cartels at bay?

Very nice!! It's about time!
It's time to take the cartels and their mules out.

Yeah, let's see how that defense holds up in court.

If this gets enacted, I see a future with trigger happy proud boys going to border towns harrassing brown people whether they're Americans or not, then shooting them if they think they have drugs on them.

Hell, they could even plant drugs on them after killing them, just like corrupt cops.

If your answer is violence, you haven't been doing enough thinking.

Wow!! How racist are you? Assuming that all brown people have drugs...why not white people? Why always the brown people? Or are their poor children just as smart as white kids? Joe Biden approves of your message.
You Libtards are always the same...scream.of racism while openly being racist with your back.handed comments and low expectations of anyone who is not white... good job!!! Your serve your party well and hold onto that kkk, Jim crowe...against civil rights tradition.

Probably time to kill a few invaders to show we're serious about defending our border.

If Congress would get off it's ass and stopped bickering. We could actually pass some laws to put troops on the border. But instead there's this partisan crap show and our border is still insecure.

I love the dichotomy.

Don't use deadly force against illegal aliens smuggling drugs, but a raid against a former president, use of deadly force is standard.

The border was secure until Biden issued 97 executive orders on his first day undoing all of Trump's border polices.

It's left unsecured on purpose. He didn't need congress then, he doesn't need congress now.

Ask yourself why?

That defense resulted in a mistral of 75-year-old Arizona rancher George Alan Kelly, accused of fatally shooting a migrant on his property near the U.S.-Mexico border last month.

Just to clarify, that wasn't his defense.

His defense was that the group he saw included men with weapons and he heard a shot, thought the group had shot at him, so he shot back at the group in self defense, hitting and killing the dead man. His wife didn't hear the shot, but she wasn't in the same place as him, and no weapon was found on the dead man, but his companions could've picked it up. There's no telling what really happened, but his defense was definitely not what you said there.

That may seem nitpicky, but "I shot him because I thought he was selling drugs" will definitely get you convicted of murder. Don't do that because you thought "that defense" resulted in a mistrial. It didn't. I suggest no one go around telling people it did.

I 'think' I've read all the posts on this thread, and I guess I'm missing something.

All sworn law enforcement officers and agents are authorized to use deadly force if their lives or the lives of the community are imminently in grave danger, whether drugs are involved or not. This is nothing new, and it's certainly not something DeSantis or anyone else needs to 'enact' or endorse.

Nowhere in anything I've seen is DeSantis or anyone else suggesting law enforcement officials should be able to summarily execute persons involved in a crime, or serve as judge, jury and executioner without due process.

And, out the same concern for objectivity, I saw a similar report about Biden somehow authorizing deadly force in the Mir-a-lago raid on Trump. There was nothing to authorize, those agents already had this authority if confronted with a grave or life threatening situation.

This is all just media spin for drama. F the MSM!

I have no good ideas on how to solve this situation so I'm just going to kill my problems.

That's such a Clinton way to handle things.

What happened to that border wall idea?
Did we give up on that?

How about installing U.S. military bases along the border?

How about legalizing marijuana, around 70% of Texans want pot legal but Governor Hot Wheels, his lieutenant governor and his attorney general don't care about the will of the people.

The taxes could provide funding for better border security and you take money away from the drug cartels.

The fact is, those pushing these violent policies like DeSantis, don't want to put in any meaningful work.

Deciding to kill someone out of convenience is textbook evil.

And it's ironic. The side that claims they want to protect and save the country is the side that talks about Civil War and shooting people they view as undesirable.

That mentality is what leads to Civil War.
The proverbial destruction from within comes from policies that are based on destruction.

Why do you want to turn the southern border into the new Gaza Strip?

If we truly are the greatest country on Earth, there is absolutely zero reason that Eagle Pass can't be a new Ellis Island.

Genocide Joe halted the border wall on day 1 of his reign as supreme douchebag.
He also sold off all the materials already purchased for the border wall for pennies on the dollar.

How about installing U.S. military bases along the border?

Biden sent military to the border but told them they can’t search, detain or arrest anyone for anything.

The taxes could provide funding for better border security and you take money away from the drug cartels.

The funding is already accounted for but dumbass Biden doesn’t want to use it for the border wall because he doesn’t want a border wall.
Is that what you meant about not caring about the will of the people?

Deciding to kill someone out of convenience is textbook evil.

I agree.
Abortion kills more people each month than were killed in the last 100 years at the border.
The real disgusting tragedy of convenience.

And it's ironic. The side that claims they want to protect and save the country is the side that talks about Civil War and shooting people they view as undesirable.

The people have spoken and say they want the border secured and illegals deported.
You might want to check your allegiance and think next time you vote.
Biden doesn’t care about Americans, you, or the illegals.
Oh sweet irony indeed.
November’s coming.
I’m sure you’ll do the right thing.

Do you have those 97 executive orders for me to look at?

And you're wrong about needing congress. If we want to secure the border. Congress has to change the laws governing the border. To allow the president the power to close the border. Because right now the laws in place don't allow a president to close the border. Even Trump had problems closing the border. The courts told him no. And it wasn't until Covid that Trump was able to use title 42. That law does allow the President to close the border during a disease outbreak.

Deadly force is needed to protect our borders from the invasion PERIOD. Don't care who they are or what they are running from. 52 million illegals is enough to take this country if they desired

Oh, this is going to work out great....

What border crossers are there into Florida?

"Better shoot those ones floating on the door, they might have Fentanyl!"

Yes, I know he means the Southern border.

That's freaking psychotic. And also completely ignorant to who the drug mules mostly are. They drive produce trucks and get caught at the border secondary search, some of them. It's like a Mexican loss leader. 1 truck gets caught, 9 get through.

You can also pretty much suspect anyone crossing illegally of drug smuggling. Anyone is a possible mule.

From a law enforcement standpoint, EVERY international truck driver is a suspected smuggler. Every car that crosses through a border checkpoint is a suspected smuggler. Everyone is reasonably a suspected smuggler.

What entails suspicion? What encounter leads to deadly force?

I get the image is of a backpacker with a duffle bag on foot that starts to run, but this is pretty much carte blanche to shoot everyone with a bag that runs from La Migra.

The solution to fentanyl isn't shooting everyone that runs, which is where this would go, it's an invitation for constitutional headaches.

constitution.congress.gov...

Article I, Section 8, Clause 18:

The Congress shall have Power . . . ] To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

Eventually, the Supreme Court extended these constitutional protections to all aliens within the United States, including those who entered unlawfully, declaring that aliens who have once passed through our gates, even illegally, may be expelled only after proceedings conforming to traditional standards of fairness encompassed in due process of law.

Yamataya v. Fisher

Seems kind of UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Unless everyone's favorite, The Patriot Act, has a work around? The Habeas Corpus thing?

Can you define a smuggler as an:

unlawful enemy combatant engaged in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States

And even then, are you still allowed to shoot them? I'm fairly certain they have to be that to bypass their constitutional protections.

The only way to stop the invasion is if all Latinos are deported...sorry even citizens. Why? Because if we don't we will fight a losing guerilla battle against Mexico, the 30+million illegals here, China, the UN and Canada. Yes they will all join in.
After they are all removed we can bring back in US citizens who have lived in the nation for 30+yrs. All others born after that 30yr period were anchor babies anyways.
This action would take a year to map out locations of deporties. Then when action started we would have about 2 months to complete the deportations until the rest of the world decides to go against us. As long as the illegals are gone by that 2 month period theyWEF/UN nations won't do a damn thing except maybe sanction us....good...we produce the food for the world.

If you are coming into our country illegally, you've already broken the law. IMO, if you come across on public land, then good luck, deadly force might be used, trafficking or not. You come across on private land, deadly force should be used, trafficking or not.

Come through legally, oh look, no problems. You get to keep your life if you get in. Why is this so hard to understand?

Everything in your post is BS.

It's already illegal to cross the border illegally. All they have to do is enforce the laws already in place.

The regime is choosing not to. They've sued Texas for securing it's own border.

They want it open, it's intentional.

People crying about constitutionality around a governor, but not a peep about the clown car in DC.

Laundry list of our bill of rights under heavy assault and people deflect to trump or desantis now.

We have a sitting president ignoring the supreme court of the united states, and yall are worried about this before its ever been litigated.

Insanity.
