Special Counsel Robert Hur 'vindicated,' 'deserves an apology' after Biden debate performance: analysts
Hur faced criticism from Democrats after describing Biden in his report as 'a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory'.
From July 1st 2024: www.cnn.com...
The House Judiciary Committee sued Attorney General Merrick Garland on Monday in their latest attempt to obtain the audio recordings of former special counsel Robert Hurâs interviews with President Joe Biden and his ghostwriter.
The Republican-led committee asked the DC district court to overrule Bidenâs assertion of executive privilege over the recordings and force Garland to hand the recordings over to Congress.
House Republicans and the Department of Justice have been in a heated back and forth for months over the recordings, including the House holding Garland in contempt of Congress last month.
The tapes are foundational to Hurâs conclusions not to charge Biden with criminal mishandling of classified records, including Hurâs damning assessment that Biden would be sympathetic to a jury because he is a âwell-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.â

The Resistance to Release the Hur/Biden Tapes is a Crime Against the American People's Right to Know , and the Only Obvious Reason not to Release the Full Raw Recordings is Because it would Reveal that Joe Biden is No Longer Fit to be POTUS .

The Republican-led House returns Monday July i8th to Capitol Hill with just 21 scheduled legislative days left before the November elections to obtain the audio tapes of Justice Department special counsel Robert Hur's 2023 interview with President Biden regarding his mishandling of classified documents.
The House GOP has the transcript of the five-hour interview but has offered several arguments on why it wants the tapes â including that the federal criminal investigation ended this year with no charges against Biden in part because Hur concluded a jury would likely view the president as a âsympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.â
The comment took on much great significance after Biden's June 27 debate with GOP candidate Donald Trump in which the president's cognitive abilities appear to contribute to his halting performance.
GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson has also suggested he wants the tapes to ensure the transcript of the interview is accurate.

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco recused herself from the special counsel's investigation into President Biden's handling of classified materials last year, three people close to the White House told Axios.
Why it matters: The reason for the recusal remains unclear, but after special counsel Robert Hur's investigation concluded, Monaco conveyed to the White House chief of staff's office that she would have handled the controversial probe differently, one of the sources told Axios.
Zoom in: Attorney General Merrick Garland's appointment of Hur in early 2023 was one of his most consequential and controversial decisions.
The release of his report in February (2024) prompted a wave of concern about Biden's age.
