That is a personal judgment call. You can't champagne parental rights to decide what is best for their child and then demand every parent raise their children the exact same way you would. The two concepts are antithetical.

I guess the key phrase here is "raising your children". I expect parents to be responsible and do what they can to give their children the best life they can. I've seen it done many times by parents who weren't ready to be parents and got pregnant by accident. They didn't take the easy way out and abort the child they thought would burden their lives for 2 decades.

Good for them and you; not everyone is going to agree with you and Parents ought to have the right to choose what is best for their children.

Parents is the result of a biological act.

There are no rules, no safeguards, no intelligence requirement, don't even have to have a job.

They will argue for individual freedoms in one breath, so long as they agree with the underlining wedge issue, and than seek to curtail freedoms with in the next breath, when they don't agree with the underlining wedge issue.

Abortion is an personal decision that a parent has the right to make for themselves and their family .... but that same parent runs the risk of being seen as a psycho if they don't raise their kid as discribe by some anonymous online poster?

I'm tired -- gonna skip the other part.

My concept of raising kids: they are born who they are and the only person they ever really have to answer to is themselves. Integrity always #1.

I'm a firm believer "you are your brain" -- you are wired from conception.

I think most as they become adults and into further adulthood -- try to undo the indoctrination that was forced on them.

Why waste all that time having to undo?

Guidance in guiding someone to be their best person -- is not the same as indoctrination.

That's a great viewpoint on child rearing, I'm glad you hold it. And I am also glad to extend that same sentiment to parents who want to "indoctrinate" there children into beliefs they themselves were taught to cherish... thats how freedom, empathy and tolerance work.

My mom raised us to accept people for who they are.

She was disabled in the 50's polio epidemic. We belonged to a disabled club -- people and disabilities of all variety.

One day I heard her on the phone saying something racist. I was shocked. I confronted her.

She said: "I was raised differently than you -- racism was part of my generation growing up in Ohio.

But I raised you for your generation, not mine."

I never forgot that.

Maybe we should pull the kids from birth and let the State rear them. I don't know what century you and Annee live in but it is not the Present. You two know very little about what you speak of. We can look at the Black community that has a lot of issues and it is because the family nucleus just isn't there and the kids grow up without that support and so there are big issues.

The real truth is the more involvement the family puts in the better the kids grow up outside of your hyperbole of the extremes that you paint as a norm. Go look at these kids with little parental oversight and get back to me on that.

I have a 16 year old. He has openly talked to be about sex at least the last 2 years.
