That is the title of a New York Times article that I don't really want to link here cause there's probably nothing of any benefit in that news article anyway. But I did want to say something about something I read in a Dutch news article about it that I just read. It was mentioned in the Dutch article that it is allowed in the state of Michigan to take your kid to the shooting range and the gunstore (to pick out a gun). These actions preceding the shooting were by the way part of the reason the mother was convicted (she had taken her son to the shooting range after the kid had gone to the gunstore with his father to pick out and buy the gun with which the mass shooting was committed; the father was also charged). I immediately recognized this as the crux of the problem, along with the glorification (and marketing) of guns that comes with it (treating it as a hobby, 'quality' mother-son time; father-son time). From an outsider (outside the US) where something like this is not allowed, it is really strange that this is allowed in a state where politicians pretend to care about these mass shootings, or pretend to do something to prevent it from happening again, yet the law stays the same, nor does anyone even suggest there might be something wrong with allowing that (after all, I assume a 15 year old kid is not allowed to own a gun, or have a license for it, so what business do they have at either of these places? They shouldn't be there, they should not be subjected to this form of glorification, they get enough of that already from the hypocritical entertainment industry, who also pretends to be against gun violence and mass shootings, being that they predominantly represent or promote left-wing political ideology, the hypocrites that they are). It is still treated as if it's perfectly fine to take your kid to the gunstore or shooting range, or for the greedy owners of the gunstores and shooting ranges to allow this form of brainwashing and conditioning to happen on their grounds (after all, they will argue, it's not against the law, it's still unethical though, i.e. wrong, but they don't care about that, being "lovers of themselves" and "lovers of money", 2 Timothy 3:1-5).

2 Timothy 3:1-5:

But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.

Now I understand most people here are conservatives and gun lovers (gun hobbyists), and that none of the opinions I expressed in the first paragraph are welcome to any of you, and that you're just itching to respond with commentary justifying the laws that allow for this situation to be the way it is in the US. Possible arguing that I as someone not from the US simply don't understand and blah blah blah (all sorts of persuasive arguments that you have been programmed with by those making money on gun sales, or those connected to them in their financial interests, eg. politicians that get campaign contributions or other favors from the NRA or other similar lobby groups), but don't expect a response from me if you comment in this thread. I was just sharing my opinion which I already know will be predominantly unwelcome here. Of course, nobody is stopping you from sharing yours on the matter, but I don't want to waste my time debating it with you. So you'll end up preaching to the choir (the majority of people here who will already agree with you cause they've become victims of the same pro-gun propaganda/marketing campaign that I spoke about before when talking about those profiting from the popularity of guns in the US). When the crux of the problem is this obvious, there's not much point in debating/arguing with...

So all there's left to say concerning those promoting guns, and keep the situation as it is as they (politicians and other talking heads) pretend to care (about mass shootings and gun violence), is that...

For some more wholesome music that could possibly heal your minds if one is willing to be receptive to it, to 'hear' it, to allow it to touch your heart and mind (also related to this):

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage warfare* [“We do not wage warfare.” Lit., “we are not doing military service.” ...; Lat., non . . . mi·li·ta'mus.] according to what we are in the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but powerful by God for overturning strongly entrenched things. For we are overturning reasonings and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God;” (2 Cor 10:3-5)

“And stop being molded by this system of things,* [ Or “this age.”] but be transformed by making your mind over, so that you may prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

I'm sorry, but all I ever have for you is... (add "s" to the title, as the phrase goes in the song itself):

Coming back to a phrase in the Michael Jackson song "Heal the World": "Stop existing and start living".

"Jah" is the shortened version of the name "Jehovah" (both used in the Bible).

The version above is missing 2 verses (but there's a nice bonus message from Bob Marley at the end), here's a more complete version:

Jehovah has all the best singers to teach His "beneficial teaching". Sadly though, most people won't hear it, or when they do, it doesn't really register with them, it doesn't 'hit home'. “For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the wholesome* [Or “healthful; beneficial.”] teaching, but according to their own desires, they will surround themselves with teachers to have their ears tickled.* [Or “to tell them what they want to hear.”] They will turn away from listening to the truth and give attention to false stories.” (2 Timothy 4:3,4)

Revelation 21:3-5 (second-to-last chapter in the Bible):

With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

5 And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful* [Or “trustworthy.”] and true.”

English version:

Remember Indiana, "the shrewd one considers his steps"
(Pr 14:15, see my signature). Alternate rendering: "the shrewd one ponders each step." (NW Study Edition)

At least he didn't give up (talking about Indiana in the scene above).

Quoting a lot of scripture and forgot the part that actually applies.

"If you don't own a sword, sell your cloak, and buy one."
Or in other words, self defense.

Yo dude, gun ranges and manufacturers, are not LIABLE or RESPONSIBLE for your actions. They don't force people to be irresponsible.

The individual who commits acts of violence, are responsible for own actions.

The person who does the crime, did it, no one else did.

Now, having made that very common sense statement, any guardian of a minor, who commits any crime, is also responsible for that minors actions. It's called being a parent/guardian.

Raise your children correctly, and these issues don't happen.

Any one who blames wrong party, is an idiot.

You are definitely an idiot. Try and be a useful idiot...

I see the preaching to the choir (the stiff necked fools Bob Marley was talking about) and poisoning of people's minds by twisting Scripture (usually by quoting a verse out of context, playing on the fact that people would not understand or make any effort to understand the verse in question and in its proper context, a conditioned attitude of willful misunderstanding, ignorance and foolishness) has already started, even before anyone has had sufficient time to actually listen to the message and teachings Bob Marley and Michael Jackson have tried to make you aware of.

For those like me who don't wanna hear it, don't read the 2 comments above, they will poison your minds and hearts (see my signature and text under my profilename).

But thanks for the bump anyway. And the demonstration of 2 Timothy 4:3,4. Some texts missing from the OP (I was out of space). The first one I usually use as a follow-up to 2 Timothy 4:3,4, so I'll start there first (it's worth repeating anyway):

“For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the wholesome* [Or “healthful; beneficial.”] teaching, but according to their own desires, they will surround themselves with teachers to have their ears tickled.* [Or “to tell them what they want to hear.”] They will turn away from listening to the truth and give attention to false stories.” (2 Timothy 4:3,4)

“So we should no longer be children, tossed about as by waves and carried here and there by every wind of teaching by means of the trickery of men, by means of cunning in deceptive schemes.” (Ephesians 4:14)

“Look out that no one takes you captive by means of the philosophy and empty deception according to human tradition, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ;” “We have much to say about him, and it is difficult to explain, because you have become dull in your hearing. For although by now* [Lit., “in view of the time.”] you should be teachers, you again need someone to teach you from the beginning the elementary things of the sacred pronouncements of God, and you have gone back to needing milk, not solid food. For everyone who continues to feed on milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness, for he is a young child. But solid food belongs to mature people, to those who through use have their powers of discernment* [Or “their perceptive powers.”] trained to distinguish both right and wrong.” (Col 2:8; Hebrews 5:11-14)

“However, the inspired word clearly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired statements and teachings of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, whose conscience is seared as with a branding iron.”(1 Timothy 4:1,2). (remember, they're on ATS too, and always quick to squash any attempt at exposing them, ridiculing the whole notion of the existence of them, it works well, cause those buttons they are pushing have already been pre-conditioned by this system of things and "the god of this system of things", 2 Cor 4:4, who only loves himself and hates all of mankind with an intense hatred, he's a master propagandist and deceiver with an army of propagandists and deceivers from his collection of pawns and victims, both human and spirit, twisters of Scripture with thousands of years of experience in manipulating the minds, hearts and actions of mankind. In other words, they've gotten very good at it by now.)

You can give this playlist a try to counteract their influence (starting in the middle somewhere, you may also want to start at the beginning):

Knowledge (Insight on the Scriptures, Volume 2)

...
Knowledge (gno'sis) is put in a very favorable light in the Christian Greek Scriptures. However, not all that men may call “knowledge” is to be sought, because philosophies and views exist that are “falsely called ‘knowledge.’” (1Ti 6:20) ...
... Thus Paul wrote about some who were learning (taking in knowledge) “yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge [...] of truth.” (2Ti 3:6, 7)

“... having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power and from these turn away. From among these arise men who slyly work their way into households and captivate weak women loaded down with sins, led by various desires, always learning and yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge of truth.” (2Ti 3:5-7)

“Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, turning away from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from the contradictions of the falsely called ‘knowledge.’ By making a show of such knowledge, some have deviated from the faith.

May the undeserved kindness be with you.” (1Ti 6:20,21)

...
How does God view the “wisdom” offered by human philosophy?

1 Cor. 1:19-25: “It is written: ‘I will make the wisdom of the wise men perish, and the intelligence of the intellectual men I will shove aside.’ Where is the wise man? Where the scribe? Where the debater of this system of things? Did not God make the wisdom of the world foolish? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not get to know God, God saw good through the foolishness [as it appears to the world] of what is preached to save those believing. . . . Because a foolish thing of God [as the world views it] is wiser than men, and a weak thing of God [as the world may see it] is stronger than men.” (Such a viewpoint on God’s part is certainly not arbitrary or unreasonable. He has provided in the Bible, the most widely circulated book in the world, a clear statement of his purpose. He has sent his witnesses to discuss it with all who will listen. How foolish for any creature to think that he has wisdom greater than that of God!)

Source: Philosophy (Reasoning From the Scriptures)

“Woe to those who say that good is bad and bad is good,

Those who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness,

Those who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Woe to those wise in their own eyes

And discreet in their own sight!” (Isaiah 5:20,21)

“But let God be found true, even if every man be found a liar.” (Romans 3:4)

Quoting scripture, and posting a lot of a child molesters videos do not prove anything. I am from Michigan. We hunt, and like guns. It is in our culture. Do I think a 15 year old should own a gun? A hunting rifle, yes. A handgun. no. A semi auto sporting rifle, wrongfully aka an "assault rifle", no difference from the hunting rifle, other than the fancy packaging.

This is just a case of case of crappy parents. They showed in court how this kid was telling his parents he had mental problems and literally begging them to help him or get him a therapist. The mom basically laughed at him. His journals were somewhat heartbreaking to read because he laments the fact that his parents aren't getting him help at all and he really needs mental help.

My dad wasn't the greatest. He was an alcoholic and kind of abusive but when I told him that I was having mental problems he got me help immediately even though we were dirt poor. There are programs for low income families. Turned out I have OCD. These parents suck and I hope they throw the book at both of them.

Has nothing to do with kids being allowed to pick out guns or go to shooting ranges.

2 Peter 2:1-3

However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among you. These will quietly bring in destructive sects, and they will even disown the owner who bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves. 2 Furthermore, many will follow their brazen conduct,*[Or “their acts of shameless conduct.”] and because of them the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively. 3 Also, they will greedily exploit you with counterfeit words. But their judgment, decided long ago, is not moving slowly, and their destruction is not sleeping.

The apostle Paul warned that things would get worse in “the last days,” the time in which we are now living. “Wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse,” he wrote, “misleading and being misled [or, “deluding others and deluding themselves,” Phillips].”—2 Timothy 3:1, 13.

They're rallying in this thread, gotta squash any threat to their preferred mental and spiritual poison and darkness (in particular in regards to the effect it has on people on ATS who may stumble on this thread and actually might want to pay attention). Of course, also used to lure me into saying something that confirms their "slander" and "wicked suspicisions" and encourages "strife" (1Tim 6:3-5). More on that later where I will quote the last 2 verses.

Proverbs 4:7:

Wisdom is the most important* [Or “the prime.”] thing, so acquire wisdom,

And with all you acquire, acquire understanding.

Understanding (Aid to Bible Understanding)

...

RELATIONSHIP TO KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM

Understanding must be based on knowledge, and works with knowledge, though it is itself more than mere knowledge. The extent and worth of one’s understanding is measurably affected by the quantity and quality of one’s knowledge. Knowledge is acquaintance with facts, and the greatest and most fundamental fact is God, his existence, his invincible purpose, his ways. Understanding enables the person to relate the knowledge he acquires to God’s purpose and standards and thereby assess or evaluate such knowledge. The “understanding heart is one that searches for knowledge”; it is not satisfied with a mere superficial view but seeks to get the full picture. (Prov. 15:14) Knowledge must become ‘pleasant to one’s very soul’ if discernment is to safeguard one from perversion and deception.—Prov. 2:10, 11; 18:15.

Proverbs 1:1-6 shows that the “man of understanding is the one who acquires skillful direction, to understand a proverb and a puzzling saying, the words of wise persons and their riddles.” These must not be things said merely to pass the time away in idle conversation, for wise persons would not customarily waste time in such manner, but must refer to instruction, questions and problems that discipline and train the mind and heart in right principles, thereby equipping the learner for wise action in the future. (Compare Psalm 49:3, 4.) Knowledge and understanding together bring wisdom, which is the “prime thing,” the ability to bring a fund of knowledge and keen understanding to bear on problems with successful results. (Prov. 4:7) The person who is rightly motivated seeks understanding, not out of mere curiosity or to exalt himself, but for the very purpose of acting in wisdom; ‘wisdom is before his face.’ (Prov. 17:24) He is not like those in the apostle Paul’s day who assumed to be teachers of others but were “puffed up with pride, not understanding anything,” unwisely letting themselves become “mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words,” things that produce disunity and a host of bad results.—1 Tim. 6:3-5; see KNOWLEDGE; WISDOM.

1 Tim 6:4,5:

he is puffed up with pride and does not understand anything. He is obsessed with arguments and debates about words. These things give rise to envy, strife, slander, wicked suspicions, 5 constant disputes about minor matters by men who are corrupted in mind and deprived of the truth, thinking that godly devotion is a means of gain.

It even happens to the most intelligent (or cunning) among us.

My kid owned an AR at 14 years old. We go shoot for fun and go hunting. Good father and son time, but I’m sure your papa had bonding time too.

I may use a video from the OP like that in direct response to a comment so every now and then in this thread. But if I have to use the "stiff necked fools" song all the time there isn't much point to it I recon. Even though it's probably the most applicable one to the majority of comments that will be made or have already been made.

By the way, the father was also charged. A teacher had caught the kid (the shooter) looking for ammo on his phone during class, according to the kid it was because he had been to a shooting range with his mom: shooting was a family hobby. The school had called the mom who acted indifferently in personal messages between mother and son. Messages between the mom and son were reviewed in court that said (translating from Dutch, so pardon any inaccuracy): "Lol. I'm not angry with you. You just need to learn not to get caught." The father was not part of this conversation it seems, and yet, the father is still charged (like I mentioned). The mom had said in court it was the responsibility of her husband to keep an eye on the gun. No love lost between those 2. Just throw your husband under the bus to shirk responsibility for bad morals. The love of guns is one the worst mental diseases a person can have (there's a phrase about "mental enslavement" in one of the Bob Marley songs).

The mom actually said in court, that looking back, she would not have done anything different. The fact that she ignored his pleas for help, laughed about some of his behavior, told him next time to not get caught, when he was in school researching bullets to buy, when he was extremely upset his only friend moved away, they went out partying, leaving him
alone, he had easy access to the gun, despite his mental state, and the fact that after the shooting the parents went on the run, all did not help her case.

The dad goes on trial next month.

You do realise the great Bob Marley was a Rastafarian don't you?

www.britannica.com...

Jamaican Rastas are descendants of African slaves who were converted to Christianity in Jamaica by missionaries using the text of the King James Version of the Bible. Rastas maintain that the King James Version is a corrupted account of the true word of God, since English slave owners promoted incorrect readings of the Bible in order to better control slaves. Rastas believe that they can come to know the true meanings of biblical scriptures by cultivating a mystical consciousness of oneself with Jah, called “I-and-I.”

AS MEANS of communicating have expanded—from printing to the telephone, radio, television, and the Internet—the flow of persuasive messages has dramatically accelerated. This communications revolution has led to information overload, as people are inundated by countless messages from every quarter. Many respond to this pressure by absorbing messages more quickly and accepting them without questioning or analyzing them.

The cunning propagandist loves such shortcuts—especially those that short-circuit rational thought. Propaganda encourages this by agitating the emotions, by exploiting insecurities, by capitalizing on the ambiguity of language, and by bending rules of logic. As history bears out, such tactics can prove all too effective.

...

Playing on the Emotions

Even though feelings might be irrelevant when it comes to factual claims or the logic of an argument, they play a crucial role in persuasion. Emotional appeals are fabricated by practiced publicists, who play on feelings as skillfully as a virtuoso plays the piano.

For example, fear is an emotion that can becloud judgment. And, as in the case of envy, fear can be played upon. ...

...

Hatred is a strong emotion exploited by propagandists. Loaded language is particularly effective in triggering it. There seems to be a nearly endless supply of nasty words that promote and exploit hatred toward particular racial, ethnic, or religious groups.

Some propagandists play on pride. Often we can spot appeals to pride by looking for such key phrases as: “Any intelligent person knows that . . .” or, “A person with your education can’t help but see that . . .” A reverse appeal to pride plays on our fear of seeming stupid. Professionals in persuasion are well aware of that.

...

How would someone regularly pushing the buttons of fear, hatred and pride, their favorite being fear, but who wishes to hide what they're up to, or those heavily affected by such a person (or persons), call themselves on ATS to hide what they're up to? (or call themselves or think of themselves because they do not see it if they are the victim of such tactics)

Didn't even bother reading your wall of text.

But I live here, in MI.
I am of 2 minds on this. I do think it sets a dangerous precedent. 90% of the time, there really are just bad kids. Sorry, but it does happen.

But in this case, my god, they really were bad, bad parents. And it has NOTHING to do with taking your kid to a gun range. Any GOOD outdoorsy Michigan parent teaches their child not only how to shoot, but how to respect a gun and what it can do.

But this kid was crying out for help. Multiple times. And the parents aren't the only ones at fault. The school is too. They saw the drawings. They knew there were problems. And they also let it continue.

This was a failure by all the adults in this kids life. So in this case, it was pertinent to charge the parents.
But it could be a slippery slope, that we need to keep an eye on.

Sad case all around.

I think the Cartmans in this thread can give it a rest though. You're preaching to the choir. I know this thread is a bigger threat to you and your spiritual father than most (if not all) threads on ATS, but the more you comment, the more demonstrations you give of the true nature of ATS. More evidence for all the things brought up in the songs. And that includes the comment complaining about Rastafarianism, which indeed is a false religion. But you wouldn't be able to tell false religion from the "beneficial teaching" mentioned at 2 Timothy 4:3,4 even if it bit you in the bum. Not sure if that was the right English expression but those with "understanding" and the ability to see*, will catch my drift. If such people are still around on ATS that is (I'm hoping they're out there somewhere, don't be afraid to comment, I won't respond to you in the same manner). And remember:

“Trembling at men is what lays a snare.”—Prov. 29:25.

Current events-The End of False Religion is imminent! (playlist)

... In time, Babylonish religious beliefs and practices spread to many lands. So Babylon the Great became a fitting name for false religion as a whole.

...

Ancient Babylonian religious concepts and practices are found in religions worldwide

“Egypt, Persia, and Greece felt the influence of the Babylonian religion . . . The strong admixture of Semitic elements both in early Greek mythology and in Grecian cults is now so generally admitted by scholars as to require no further comment. These Semitic elements are to a large extent more specifically Babylonian.”—The Religion of Babylonia and Assyria (Boston, 1898), M. Jastrow, Jr., pp. 699, 700.

Their gods: There were triads of gods, and among their divinities were those representing various forces of nature and ones that exercised special influence in certain activities of mankind. (Babylonian and Assyrian Religion, Norman, Okla.; 1963, S. H. Hooke, pp. 14-40) “The Platonic trinity, itself merely a rearrangement of older trinities dating back to earlier peoples, appears to be the rational philosophic trinity of attributes that gave birth to the three hypostases or divine persons taught by the Christian churches. . . . This Greek philosopher’s [Plato’s] conception of the divine trinity . . . can be found in all the ancient [pagan] religions.”—Nouveau Dictionnaire Universel (Paris, 1865-1870), edited by M. Lachâtre, Vol. 2, p. 1467.

...

Belief regarding death: “Neither the people nor the leaders of religious thought [in Babylon] ever faced the possibility of the total annihilation of what once was called into existence. Death was a passage to another kind of life.”—The Religion of Babylonia and Assyria, p. 556.

2 of the more notable features of false religion.

Which brings us back to:

*: Coming back to the expression "understanding and the ability to see" (I discussed the topic of "understanding" before). Matthew 13:9-17:

Let the one who has ears listen.”

10 So the disciples came and said to him: “Why do you speak to them by the use of illustrations?” 11 In reply he said: “To you it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the Kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not granted. 12 For whoever has, more will be given him, and he will be made to abound; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13 That is why I speak to them by the use of illustrations; for looking, they look in vain, and hearing, they hear in vain, nor do they get the sense of it. 14 And the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled in their case. It says: ‘You will indeed hear but by no means get the sense of it, and you will indeed look but by no means see. 15 For the heart of this people has grown unreceptive, and with their ears they have heard without response, and they have shut their eyes, so that they might never see with their eyes and hear with their ears and get the sense of it with their hearts and turn back and I heal them.’

16 “However, happy are your eyes because they see and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I say to you, many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things you are observing but did not see them, and to hear the things you are hearing but did not hear them.

Jesus cannot heal these people, cause they don't wanna hear it, they are unreceptive to the "beneficial teaching" mentioned at 2 Timothy 4:3,4, actually, 'they will not even put up with it', they hate it and will do anything to get other people to hate it as well and 'become dull in their hearing' (Heb. 5:11, quoted before). That is the nature of ATS (on average).

Bringing us back to (OK, 1 time at least):

Proverbs 29:1:

A man who stiffens his neck* [Or “who remains stubborn.”] after much reproof

Will suddenly be broken beyond healing.
